A few years ago, we bought a house. A beautiful house. I thought my son would learn to shave in the bathroom of that house. I thought my daughter would walk down our stairs dressed to the nines for a first date or dance. I thought we’d wave our kids good-bye from that front porch for the rest of our lives.
Instead, we felt some things change in our desires and we put it up for sale. It took a few months but we sold it, closed on it last week and moved out nine days ago.
We’re living in an apartment (hold the phone—no joke. We’re on the 4th floor with NO elevator. Talk about CrossFit. Sheesh.) for the next few months until (are you ready for this?) OUR HOUSE IS BUILT.
We’re building a house. Building a house on 20+ acres. My Wilder adventure is coming true! We’ll have our own Little House in the Big Woods! Right now it has 2 barns, a little chicken coop thingie and lots of places to play!
The last week of moving and closing and moving again was quite possibly the most stressful of my recent life. I cannot even describe it…but (as usual) I’ll try:
Asa had a fever for five days during the packing and moving.
My Truth in the Tinsel Swap Party was on the day we moved.
I broke my phone 2 days before we moved.
The people buying our house tried to sue us over a fridge and charge us $600 for trash on our property WHEN WE STILL OWNED THE HOUSE.
Half my family was in California for a wedding.
My husband’s family was in Europe.
We skipped homeschool basically every day we moved and skipped our at-school day, too.
We’ve had meltdowns, freak-outs and lots of over-tired tears.
It’s been nine sleeps in our apartment and we’re just starting to see the sun peek through the proverbial cloudy day of moving. The move has been harder on the kids than I thought. Especially my needs-assurance little girl.
But spending time on the land in this breezy fall weather? It’s been a healing balm.
Right now, I’m in the business center of our apartment complex because we don’t have internet access yet. And why don’t we? Well, the current company is being fazed out next month so they won’t accept new clients. The new company isn’t here yet, so they won’t accept us yet, either. People who WILL NOT TAKE OUR MONEY. What in the world?
I’ve got eleventybillion things to do online but I felt like I had to get this post in first so everyone could calm their fears about where I’ve been. (You know, because you’ve been wondering.) In case you haven’t noticed CHRISTMAS IS AROUND THE CORNER. I’ve got so much Truth in the Tinsel fun to show you but haven’t had the bandwidth (literally) to tell you about it.
Anywhoo. I hope you’re ready for an onslaught of beautiful pictures of our land and lots of fun Christmasy stuff. I’ve been saving up for you! (And actually, if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen a few pics already!)
OK. That’s all. How’s life where you are?

I was wondering when you were going to do a write-up with more details! 😉 I’ve loved the sneak peaks you’ve given on IG… And I can’t wait to see more as you have time (and find an Internet connection!).

Although you are stressed out I am happy to hear that you moved in! Can not wait to see your Christmassy stuff! I am also looking forward doing truth in the tinsel with my three kiddos! They are ten, seven and nearly two. I love to read your posts! Hugs from Berlin?
