I have loved Adventures in Odyssey since Whit’s Flop. Stories are bread and meat for me and the stories of Odyssey are up there with Narnia and Disney in my world. When I was little, my brother and I listened to our Adventures in Odyssey tapes over and over. I learned about siblings from Donna and Jimmy, life and death from Karen, new birth from Connie and so many other lessons from the gang at Whit’s End.
I have been slowly brainwashing introducing my kids to Adventures in Odyssey (the target age is 8-12) and they (especially Lydia) would listen to ten in a row if I let them. I love resources like Adventures in Odyssey that are top-notch in creativity and in message and content. I also love the slow-ness of a radio drama. It’s non-screen time that can be enjoyed as a family.
So, I was super-dee-duper excited when I heard about the summer ACTS (A Call To Serve) project from Adventures in Odyssey. Do you remember our Shoes 2 Share adventure or Collect for Kenya? This is the same idea–challenging kids to get out and DO something to serve others this summer.
Which sounds remarkably like our Monthly Missions! (Just another little hey-I-see-you message to my heart.) Adventures in Odyssey is challenging their readers to give 50,000 hours of service this summer. To help, they have a downloadable path to service chart to keep track of your hours. Plus, they are doing a MAJOR giveaway to go along with it—your kids could win a Good-Goers Adventure Missions Trip!
Anywhoo, there’s tons of details on Whit’s End website and there’s even going to be a webcast THIS Wednesday featuring Katie Leigh (voice of Connie Kendall) and Chris Anthony (host of Adventures in Odyssey) to kick off this whole cool ACTS adventure! We’ll be watching and I’d love for you and your kids to tune in to get excited to answer this call to serve, too! (June’s monthly mission will be a perfect fit, I’ll be announcing it in two weeks!)
Any other Adventures in Odyssey fans out there? Anyone gonna join the ACTS challenge?
The folks at Adventures in Odyssey contacted me and asked me to post about ACTS. I was going to do it anyway because it flows perfectly with our Monthly Mission.

We borrowed a ton of Adventures in Odyssey CDs from a friend for our beach trip this weekend. They really kept the attention of my 8 year old. My 4 year old enjoyed the ones with kids most of all.

Yes, my 4yo likes the silly ones best. I like the Imagination Station or history adventures best. 😉

thanks for sharing! I like to pick a “summer theme” for my kids — last year was summer of gratitude…I think this summer just might have to be summer of serving!

Thank you Amanda! We have been Adventures In Odyssey for many years. For a while I think I had most of them memorized. 🙂 Time to refresh with some new ones–I love that they captivate my youngest sons (even if they don’t really understand them, ) while at the same time teaching serious lessons to my older sons.
Awesome! Aloha-
