Bloggy Giveaway Day 2: Raspberry Baby Sling

this giveaway is closed. *sniff* winner will be announced monetarily…but please, feel free to read on…

When my little pirate, Asa was born (4 months ago!) the main thing I was worried about was NOT the late night feedings. It was NOT the crying. Not even the diapers. It was HOW IN THE WORLD WILL I TAKE TWO KIDS TO THE GROCERY STORE?!

I just couldn’t imagine taking a newborn and an almost 3 year old into a store and getting them both in a grocery cart. I went through every scenario: baby in carrier in front of cart while 3 year old runs around the store OR baby in carrier in the back of cart with 3 year old in front of cart—but where would the groceries go? Finally I realized, I need a sling!

I’m not a “babywearer” but knew having two kids I was going to need a sling to help me out! Well, I hit all the sites I could think of and then finally made my way to etsy. (Why didn’t I go there first?) I stumbled upon Raspberry Baby and I think the name might have hooked me. Or maybe it was the fabrics.

i have a nursing shawl in this pattern. yummy.

I couldn’t decide between all her cute patterns so I settled on the edgy gray ring sling. It goes with everything and I thought maaaayyybeeee my hubby might wear it. (He hasn’t.)

And the main thing I like is the way she suggests wearing it…with the tail wrapped around your back and tucked under the baby’s bottom. It adds some more support AND it looks super cute.

sporty, no?

Anyway, in honor of my pirate, my new life as a sahm to two, the bloggy giveaways, my new favorite thing and uh…the month of January, I asked Raspberry Baby if they’d like to give away a sling. AND THEY SAID YES. (That would have been pretty anti-climactic if they’d said no, huh?)

And not just any sling. They are giving away this ADORABLE “Inspired” sling in black and aqua.

DO YOU LOVE IT?!

It sells for $35 and YOU COULD GET IT FOR FREE!

Now, here’s the deal. I get a little antsy (and irritated) at the contests that make you do 50 thousand things to enter. But I really want to honor Raspberry Baby for their generosity, so I’d love for you to visit their site to see all their other cute stuff (like this! or oh, I wish I had this when I was preggo! or omg, do I need this!). So here’s the deal…

wrapped around the back. so sleek!

YOU MUST:
Leave me a comment. If you tell me your babywearing story, I just might be tempted to pick you instead of ramdom-ing a winner. If you compliment me, I really might pick you.

FOR TWO MORE ENTRIES:
Visit Raspberry Baby and look around. Come back here and let me know what caught your eye. (They also sell pouches, wraps and other cute mama-baby stuff!)

FOR THREE MORE ENTRIES:
Tweet this contest OR Stumble this post OR link to this post on your blog OR subscribe to my blog OR get my blog in your inbox OR write a 400 page essay on what OhAmanda means to you.

POTENTIALLY you could be entered 21 times. Am I insane?! Do you know how long this will take me to calcualte?! *whew*

Anyway, if you do any more of this stuff, just leave me an additional comment for each…just one comment is ok, unless you want to be like Dana from Are We There Yet and do my work for me (see below). Which of course, I love. And did I mention I love Dana? Well, I do. A lot. OK, back to the “rules”…yes, all you old current subscribers—leave me an extra comment and you’ll qualify for the extra subscriber entries.

OK. If you actually read every word of this post, you might get an extra entry, too. Thanks for sticking with me. Make sure to visit Raspberry Baby! And don’t forget to check out the rest of the Bloggy Giveaways, including my Day 1 giveaway–Snow White and Grumpy pendants!

I love their shop! I’ll have to add it to my etsy favorites. I enjoyed looking at all the slings. Maybe we’ll have to buy the man-sling for our next baby!

These slings are so cute! The only sling I’m missing from my collection is a ring sling. =) I have a pouch sling, a wrap, and a mai tai. I LOVE baby wearing – especially now that I will have 3. I dont know what I would do without my slings! lol I love her taggie blankets and the nursing covers. The nursing cover is something else I couldn’t live without in the beginning.

I don’t have any babywearing stories YET because I didn’t wear my daughter. I’m definitely going to wear my son, who is due in 4 months.

I wore my son in a baby bjorn when he was little. But i’m so short that his legs quickly got in my way! so we need a new plan for the new baby.

My babywearing story is EXACTLY like yours- my second is only 3 weeks old, and I haven’t gotten my sling yet- just drooled over them. I also haven’t had to go to the grocery store by myself yet so… I think you are amazing and wonderful ohamanda, and I do not feel at all guilty for using flattery to try to get my much wanted sling.

What a great site! I love their slings. I’m a sahm of 3 under the age of 3. Now that is a joke trying to take all 3 to the store. I shove the 2 toddlers in the cart and baby on the front and anything I need from the store goes on the bottom. Needless to say I hit the store about 3 times a week cause I cant fit much in the bottom of a shopping cart. This would save my LIFE!!

Wow, what a great day to find your blog!

My best (aka worse) baby sling story: I was meeting some old friends that I hadn’t seen in forever and of course wanted to impress them. My new baby weight was sure not going to do that but I was sure my sweet baby peering out of her adorable baby sling would make them swoon.

After we hugged and said hi, I pulled the sling away from my chest to show them my daughter but instead revealed a HUGE gross yellow stain on my shirt.

Yup, my daughter had explosive diarrhea that leaked through her diaper, through her pants, through the sling and onto my shirt.

I think I left an impression.

I have purchased 2 slings for myself. One of them worked when my daughter was first born and the other she has never liked (honestly it does not really fit correctly). We borrowed a Baby Bjorn from a friend for my husband (because he would not wear the other two that I bought) but now that friend is pregnant again and we have to give it back. I really don’t want to buy YET another carrier that my daughter may not like so it sure would be great to win one!!

I like the French Tip duo/Lime.

Hehe… I got one of those cheap-o slings when they first came out. I seriously think I am still suffering from back pain! These look great and comfortable, with way more support! With a new baby on the way, I’ve got to get a better sling! I would love to win one! Thanks for the chance!

For my extra entries, I totally love the herbal shoulder heat wraps, as I said before, I am still having back pain, but what mother isn’t really? This is ingenious!

    January 27, 2009 at 12:52 am

Well we are trying for baby #2 right now and so I would love this! I didn’t have a sling for baby #1 just a big square sheet that I wrapped around me. But for some reason I am thinking that this would work better!

  20. Tasha Snow says

    January 27, 2009 at 12:52 am

I had a sling for my last baby and absolutely loved it. I want to send one to my sister in law who is expecting. My brother and her will be sent to base in Japan right before they have the baby. I feel so bad I won’t be able to give them a helping hand so maybe a sling could help take some of the weight of being away from family, first baby and weight from the baby.

    January 27, 2009 at 12:53 am

Oh and I love the site! I think the Modern Flirt Skirt would be perfect! I think I really need to get me one of those…if I can ever get prego again! 🙂

I absolutely love some of the patterns at the shop! as for baby sling stories… we have a horror story! lol the first time I became a mom I was 19 years old and was scared out of my mind lol my husband and I had spent months getting everything ready for our little man and right before he was born I decided I wanted to be a baby wearing momma.. at the time we didn’t have the internet OR a babiesrus so we ended up buying a generic winne the pooh sling from Wal-mart… never again lol poor Noah didn’t like it at all and he actually got stuck in it when my husband tried to use it lol *he was born with thunder thighs* so this go round we are more informed about what a sling should be like and what we should run away from lol I’m sorry this ended up being so long! ty for your time though!

Thanks for a fabulous giveaway! I am babywearing my belly resident until April 10…when hopefully she will make her debut! I have “worn” my pup in order to try out a couple wraps and slings that I recently ordered (check out my blog for pictures).

I visited Raspberry Baby Etsy store…Love the stuff, the taggie blankies (the vintage one esp), their skirts (love the red) and the ring slings (I just may have to order the edgy gray one). I will have to favorite Raspberry Baby for sure.

Well, I tried baby wearing but the sling I had just wasn’t compatible with my 9 lb baby (and that was newborn weight!). I do love the idea of being relatively hands free, which was why I wanted to babywear in the first place. Once he got a little bigger I tried to make, and failed miserably, a carrier, and when he was in it, he loved it, but I didn’t feel confident in my sewing ability, so it sadly went in a box. With the new baby coming, it’d be nice to have something to use!

  32. Mary Jenkins says

    January 27, 2009 at 4:38 am

    – I love the rustic sling in edgy!

    – I tried to use a structured front carrier with my daughter as a new born. Not as good as a sling! Not even close!

  33. Phronsie says

    January 27, 2009 at 4:39 am

After looking on the Raspberry Baby site, I really like the nursing covers. Totally needed one ‘cos our son wouldn’t put up with a blanket and I had a hard time keeping covered.

Obviously you know I’m not ever having another baby, but lots of my close friends are! Way back when, they didn’t have anything like this. They had the snugli, which was as comfortable on your back as nails on a chalkboard. I would have loved one of these, plus it is sooo me.
My favorite thing on Raspberry Baby is the Vintage-Style Chic Ribbon Tag Blankie or Lovey. I have never seen such a beautiful Tag Blankie!

I already subscribe to your blog, so I can’t remember… I have to post again? Ok

I didn’t “wear” my first baby, and I wish I had! Now that I’m thinking of having a second, the same grocery store scenario has been flitting across my mind. Thanks for solving the problem (and looking so awesome while doing it)!

Is that flattering enough to win??? 🙂

I love slings and carriers! My story is that my son was born at 35 weeks and was so tiny that it was almost scary to hold him! I found that using a stretchy wrap (like the baby wrap at Raspberry baby) was one of the only things I could use. He had to be upright because of his reflux and I could wear him in a vertical position. It was amazing. Since then I have gotten a few other carriers, but I have yet to find a ring sling to use! This one would be great!

What a great etsy site! I wish I had found it sooner, I totally would have been buying those flirt skirts.

I actually have a babywearing story. My second Caterpillar was born in Germany (on an Army Base) and the Red Cross (in an attempt to encourage breastfeeding) sold slings (one per family). Sadly, they only sold XL sizes (I am 5’3″ and would use a Small).

I wore CW for almost an entire year, even with the XL sling, and loved it. The culture over there was so different – no one thought twice about bringing an infant into any resturant or shop in their little sling.

Now that I’m getting ready to have another Caterpillar – I really would love a nice sling. I got rid of the old one (simply because it wasn’t the right size), and have been on a search for months to find something that will fit and work AND be adorable.

Plus, my sister (BooSheep) is scheduled to be induced with her baby girl tomorrow – I wish I could enter for her (she’s on bedrest until they take her to the hospital). She would love those slings!

    I also like their bibs.

Thanks for hosting these great giveaways, Amanda!

We are due with baby number 3 and I have never used a sling. Hopefully this time around I will get to try 1 🙂

I LOVE the pink in paris fabric 🙂 My husband and I were in Paris last summer. It would make a great story to be able to say that is where we found out we were expecting- but no luck 🙂 Paris is a beautiful city that eveyone should see!

No need to enter me in the contest as my baby wearing days are over… but I wanted to say that I LOVED my ring sling and also my mei tai wrap with both of my babies. I am a babywearer so I did a lot of trying and investigating before buying my wraps/slings! Wish I’d known about Raspberry Baby- very cute!

Entry 1: I wore my daughter at school for the first four months of her life. I have a picture of her reaching up from the wrap trying to close my mouth while I read Henry V to my high school class. They “amened” her attempt wholeheartedly.

  46. Coralie says

    January 27, 2009 at 10:54 am

Entry 2: I LOVE LOVE LOVE the maternity flirt skirts! I especially love that they aren’t fifty to sixty dollars, like everyone else’s! I am seriously contemplating the red one with black ribbon trim!

  47. Rebecca says

    January 27, 2009 at 10:55 am

Entry 1: Like you, I just had #2 (a little over a week ago) and have realized i need to be more of a babywearer this time. I have one sling but im not a fan that I have used while trying to supervise my 3 1/2 year old on her bike, but I think i should try out another. this woudl give me a chance too!
Plus its my birthday today so what a nice present 🙂

  48. Rebecca says

    January 27, 2009 at 10:57 am

    entry 2:
I love the modern flirt skirt… how nice to feel feminine and pretty again after just having a newborn! And the burp cloths are awesome…

i like the gift sets for a small shower gift too. so cute!

  49. Joy says

    January 27, 2009 at 11:10 am

I’d love to have a ring sling for the baby that’s on the way! My babywearing story…I had a big baby, 10 lbs 6 oz at birth, and he was just too heavy to lug around in that carseat. So, I started wearing him in a pouch sling. He was born in winter and another benefit popped up…people aren’t as likely to touch a newborn when they’re in a carrier. It made grocery shopping in a small town much easier!

  50. Coralie says

    January 27, 2009 at 11:14 am

Entry 3:?: (feel free to delete this if it doesn’t apply) I already subscribe via google reader. And I have loved you since before my mackerdoodle was born! Does that earn me another entry? Because you KNOW how I need this carrier for my new BOY! Due in June!
