
If you read my previous post, you’ll know I’ve been having a rough week. One thing that always encourages me in the middle of feeling like a horrible parent and being stressed out is focusing on some of God’s Word. So, in no particular order (and hopefully with little commentary) are the
TOP TEN SCRIPTURES I LOVE
1. Psalm 139:17-18
How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—
{{This whole chapter is about how God loves and thinks of us. But this verse is amazing–He thinks about each of us more times a day than their are grains of sand in the world. Next time you’re feeling unloved, just think about the amount of grains in a handful of sand…this is just a fraction of God’s thoughts toward you! WOW.}}
2. Psalm 19:14
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
{{This is one of those I try to pray regularly. But I also love the word picture of God being my rock!}}
3. Psalm 25:14
The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
{{Wouldn’t you love to be God’s confidant? I love this one for those times when I’m unsure of what to do.}}
4. Exodus 24:25-26
Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.
{{This is a special scripture to me because of the miracle God did for Lydia while she was in my womb. You can read the whole story here. It’s a good one.}}
5. 2 Peter 1:4
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
{{This is one we used to teach kids in our ministry. It’s part of a larger paragraph that basically says God gives us His promises or His Word to escape the evil of this world. What an encouragement to read the Bible! Another version says that God’s promises are great and VALUABLE. I love that!}}
6. Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
{{No commentary needed here!}}
7. Mark 10:13-15
People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
{{Jesus got ticked when the disciples told the kids to stay away. I love this. And I wish more churches would think about this…}}
8. Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
{{Isn’t that what we all want? To do and have IMMEASURABLY MORE than anything you can even imagine? Well, that’s what God wants for you, too.}}
{{You’ll have to look it up on your own. My brother likes to quote this one. Yeah.}}
10. Matthew 11:28-30 (in the Message paraphrase)
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
{{*sigh* Read that one again. Slowly. Isn’t that awesome? I need that today.}}
