I Can Shut Her Down Now…

I am going to Disney World for a Mommy Blogger Mixer.

Did you hear what I just said?I AM FLYING TO ORLANDO TOMORROW TO GO TO DISNEY WORLD

and the only reason is because

I HAVE A BLOG.

Eeeeek! I am jumping up and down right now!!

How cool is that?!

Not only will I be surrounded by Mickey & Minnie, I will also be meeting Maria Bailey, Lisa @ CrazyAdventures in Parenting, Christine at From Dates to Diapers, Megan at Velveteen Mind, Emily from Mommin’ it Up, Marsha at Sweatpants Mom, Andrea at Mommy Snacks, Lindsay at SurburbanTurmoil and Beth at I Should Be Folding Laundry. Plus two of the Disney Moms Panel moms!

I’m pretty sure I was picked to fill the quota for random B-list mommy-blogger. But who cares?! I’d mommy-up every single one of their crazy velveteen sweatpants, diapers and suburban laundry to be at Disney World!

OK. That’s all. Feel free to stop screaming and follow our adventures on twitter by searching for #magicalmoms.

And yes, Asa will be with me. That whole nursing thing can cramp your jet-setting style sometimes. But Lisa will be bringing her 7month old, too. So, we’ll be nursing those babies together. Well…ew… you know what I mean.

Oh Mama: A Retro Photo

My mom. November 1957.

I think November is probably the date of the photo developing because my mom lived in Minnesota. I doubt they had their almost one year old playing in the grass in November in Minnesota. Brrrr!

This honestly doesn’t look like Mama to me. But as usual, its the extras that make this picture fun–what is she holding? It looks like food! Maybe that’s why they took the picture? Also, look in the background. What’s the net-thing? A clothesline? And is that a table next to it? What’s it full of? And for some reason that stripe on her shoes is interesting to me!

I’m always so intrigued by the things the photographer wasn’t focusing on. It gives a fuller story to the photo.

Top Ten Tuesday: Compassion International

Last year Sophie and Shannon went to Uganda for some live blogging of Compassion International‘s efforts to support kids in the impoverished areas of this country. I read every post and bawled my eyes out the whole time.

Right now nine more people are blogging in India. And already I’m feeling it inside me. “It”? Just that rumbling and aching…to do something, to do more, to love, to nurse, to lead, to inspire, to just help. So, in honor of this amazing trip, these amazing bloggers, this awesome ministry and an amazing God, here are my

TOP TEN STORIES THAT MOVE ME TO COMPASSION

1. At Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Kalkata, India, they do not name the newborn babies that arrive. Because these babies will not be alive long enough to know their own name. Or for anyone to use it or remember it. (Pete at withoutwax.tv)

2. Karate. Seriously. This is great.

3. When asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” a child cannot respond. Not because he doesn’t know the language, but because he doesn’t understand the question. His impoverished life is so normal to him, that he doens’t realize there is life beyong his. As a Hindu, he believes his life is a result of past actions–not that he is valued just because God made him. (Anne at flowerdust.net)
