Brothers & Sisters on Wordless Wednesday

Posted by oh amanda on July 2nd, 2008 . Filed under: family, me, wordless wednesday .

Usually I post my Wordless Wednesday in the wee hours of the morning. This morning my dumb stupid ridiculous irritating and yes, lame scanner/printer/fax/copier refused to scan my picture. So, here it is at the 3 in the afternoon where I’m just having time to curse cajole it properly.

so unhappy looking!

written on back:

Aba… 1921 (can’t read the whole name, it’s covered in black paper)
(1 more name covered)
Agda (our fave) 19 years
Hazel (my great-grandmother) 10 years
Mildred (her sister) 5 years
Rueben (her brother) 16
Edward (age covered)

Then on the end it says “No. Branch Rt. 3 Dry 22“. At least that’s how I read it. I’m not sure who wrote the words on the back. It was written in pencil and then someone went over some of it with a pen. I’m just totally intrigued by this. This picture is 80 years old!

This is obviously a brother/sister shot, I’m assuming the oldest guy is Carl, my great-grandmother’s brother. But the woman (Aba….) is not a name I recognize and she looks so old. Maybe she’s Carl’s girlfriend? *shudder*

My grandmother’s name is Mildred. She was one of 13 (yowzers) kids with equally great names like Hascal and Leroy. She had a sister named Hazel too… Hmmm.

    Great photo! :)

My first impulse was to assume the first half-covered name was Abagail. But if the others are Agda, Hazel, Mildred and Rueben, that’s unlikely… though there is an Edward in there, so who knows?

The mystery of the older man (if that’s not your great great uncle Carl) and the woman is intriguing. Is there anybody still living whom you can ask? I’m guessing not, or you would’ve asked already. But it is curious.

    Happy WW!
