Have you ever thought about God breathing? Remember how God breathed life into Adam? Then, when Jesus came back from the dead, he breathed the Holy Spirit into the disciples’ lives. I don’t know the ins and outs of how all that works (clearly!), but I am awed by it. God breathes life!
The same thing happened when God created the world. He spoke it into existence. I love how Sally Lloyd Jones says it in the Jesus Storybook Bible, “Hello sun! Hello moon!” God’s words make life happen.
We call the Bible, “God’s Word”, but do we really believe that it is “God-breathed” like Paul said? That the black and white words we read are from the same mouth that breathed into Adam? That called the planets into existence? That sent the Holy Spirit?
This past year I’ve had a heart-awakening about prayer. But more specifically, about praying God’s Word (His very breath!) over my kids. It started when I read Stormie Omartian’s Power of a Praying Parent. That catapulted me into more books: Mark Batterson’s Praying Circles Around Your Children, Jodie Berndt’s and Brooke McGlothlin’s Warrior Prayers.
As I read each book, I noticed one thing: the prayers were not made-up paragraphs and poetic words. They were not positive thoughts or hope or dreams. They were words taken directly from Scripture. Each prayer was written directly from the Bible. When praying those prayers, I was saying the same words God had already breathed. And I was actually using the weapon He gave me, “the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” to do battle for my kids’ hearts and lives.

My new ebook, Praying God’s Word for Your Kids is another step in my prayer journey. In each chapter you’ll find a short “devotional” to set the stage. Then there is one of those mash-up prayers based on several Scriptures.
My favorite part (and what makes this book unique) is the “For the Kids” activity. I took one verse from each prayer and turned it into a “family time” activity. You’ll spend a few minutes with your family, make a memory and learn a little bit more about a specific verse in the Bible.
If you click over to our Facebook page, you’ll be able to download a printable version of the verse to display in your home. Hang it up in a high traffic area to remind yourself and your kids what is being prayed in your home.
All of this will help your kids see what you are praying for them, what God has already spoken for them, what the standard is in your home and what they are striving for. It’s an easy way to impress God’s Word on their hearts.
Click the graphic below to go to our Facebook page and download the first print for chapter 1 (Salvation):
Each week, I’ll add an additional verse for your printing pleasure! Won’t it be fun to have them hanging up everywhere? (I’d love to see where you display yours! If you Instagram, show it off with hashtag #praykids!)
