I’m not a perfect parent. Most days I’m hardly a great one. That’s why I need resources and tools to help me. I have to read books, listen to teaching and plan how I’m going to parent. If I don’t, I’ll fail!
Today I’m sharing one of my MUST HAVE parenting resources: Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian. A tool you just gotta have in your parenting toolbox. I love it so much I had to tell you with my own mouth—
Power of a Praying Parent is only $11 on Amazon (only $8 on Kindle!) and it’s a book you’ll read for years to come, I’m sure! Also, here’s another post I wrote about prayer that is really important to me. I think you’ll like it.
Do you pray for your kids? Do you recommend any other pray-for-your-kids books?

First off—I LOVE your blog! It inspires me to be the mom God has created me to be.
Second—I just finished reading through ‘The Power of a Praying Parent’ last week. It took me a month to read (I committed to a prayer journal for my son and one chapter a day) and I agree, like you, I felt closer to God and like He really was partnering with me in this whole parenting thing. Not only that, it actually made my husband jealous that I was writing in a daily prayer journal for our son, but not for him….so now I’ve started a prayer journal for my husband and am reading ‘The Power of a Praying Wife.’ I know it sounds like a lot, but I feel God telling me to pray for my husband during my quiet time in the morning before he goes off to work, and then I save my son’s for during his nap time. And it has truly TRANSFORMED how I pray! I am more intentional, specific, and complete in my thoughts when I write it down. Until now, I’ve never been ‘good’ at praying. But I would recommend this book to ANYONE who wants to improve their discipline of prayer.

Cara! THANK YOU for sharing your experience. I have PPW, too and LOVE it. I love the idea of making a journal out of both books, tho’. I might have to do that.

Love this book! Hey…I want to see a 360′ of your closet! Do you have a desk in there? I like that idea!!!
ohAmanda says
Ha! You do NOT want to see a 360 of my closet! It doesn’t have a desk. I just have a little canvas box in there w/my Bible, journal, etc. But I really have been thinking about hanging up a little bulletin board in there so I can put up pics of the kids, or notes of Scriptures or something. If I ever get creative in there, I’ll let you know! 🙂

I’ve been using that resource on and off for 8 years. It’s awesome and wonderful! I just discovered another wonderful book called “Setting their Hope in God- Biblical intercession for your Children” by Andrew Case. Loving it!

You know what, Susan? I think that book is on my bookshelf somewhere. I’m going to have to search for it & pull it out!

You are brave broadcasting from your closet! I would be afraid something might fall on me mid video if I did it in my closet! ha! You have me interested in this book now… I have the power of a praying wife and enjoy it immensely.
Thanks for the great vlog – so fun to see you!

Ha! I have to admit I tried a few view of the closet until I found the most…uhm, flattering one! 😉

I’ve got PPW and have really appreciated it. I’ve been thinking recently that I need to be more intentional in my prayers for my kids and was thinking PPM would be good. So, after your post yesterday I hopped over to PaperBackSwap to add it to my wishlist. Then, yay, today I get an email that there’s one available and now it should be on its way to me shortly.
I’m excited to see how God uses this to change me and my kiddos.

My copy of Power of a Praying Wife is marked-up, dog-eared, and falling apart, but I have to admit that I have yet to crack open Power of a Praying Parent.
Though I pray often for my kids, I was feeling very convicted about how generic my prayers for my kids had become and decided to commit the month of July to praying focused Scripture prayers over my kids. I’ve been blogging my prayers to help hold me accountable and to be a resource and encouragement to other moms.
With July coming to a close, I’ve been thinking about starting up Power of a Praying Parent or picking up a copy of Will Davis’ “Pray Big for Your Child.” I haven’t read it, but the description sounds good!

Stormie also has “Prayers and Promises for My Little Boy” and “Prayers and Promises for My Little Girl” which are beutifully illustrated. They make wonderful gifts for new moms. It sounds like that might be more supporting scripture in the other version, but especially for new moms, a 2 page spread is perfect.
