Last week Lydia had an Easter party at school. I of course, volunteered to help at it. I volunteer for every party. So, the kids are always exited to see me coming (at least I think they are!)

Then I read the The Parable of the Lily by Liz Curtis Higgs. It’s one of my favorite Easter books because it’s so perfectly about Jesus and the Resurrection–without going to the torture and cross OR the other way with Easter eggs. It’s the story of a little girl who receives a box of dirt and a flower bulb from her father. She thinks it’s a terrible gift and even throws the bulb outside! On Easter morning she goes outside to see a beautiful lily where her bulb landed.
It’s a fabulous story. And to help us remember it, we made handprint lilies! They are so easy–just trace your hand, cut it out, roll it up and tape.

This is is a perfect gift for your unEaster basket and would be even cuter if you coupled it with a real lily!
Disclosure: I’m a Tommy Mommy.

I love the activity that you shared! My favorite spring flower is the tulip.
I live in the Bahamas, and the bouganvilla are in full bloom here! They’re my absolute favorite flower and they grow like weeds everywhere.

I love tulips!!!
Pink tulips are my favorite!
Love the spring, flowers are so beautiful to pick just one. So I will go with a great childhood easter memory, a friend of my mothers would make a lamb pound cake that was covered in powered sugar and lay it on easter grass and place candy eggs all around the grass and bring it over to us on easter sunday. It was just my mother and myself so it was special to recieve this year after year. 🙂
Love tulips….and eating peeps! ( :
Spring is TOTALLY my favorite season! I love the flowers popping up, the trees turning green, and the promise of new life! I also love The Parable of the Lily and it would be great to have my own copy instead of borrowing it from the library every year!
I love hot cross buns!
my perfectly pretty peonies! i just shared the most beautiful pics of them on my blog yesterday. the parable of the lily sounds perfect for my two preschoolers…can’t wait to read it with them!
Peonies! I love the Parable of the Lily… we have it and I would donate this copy to church to use 😉
My favorite are daffodils. When we were little my Papaw and our family always “raced”. Whichever house had daffodils first would call the other house (350 miles away) and claim the win. My Papaw passed away 20 years but now my mom and dad and my daughters carry on the tradition. So sweet.
Favorite flower? maybe a daisy. My family likes tulips.
Tulip
My favorite spring flower is the hyacinth because it reminds me of my grandmother. She had so many of these planted in her yard and we would always explore in the spring to find them.
Daffodils always come at the perfect time! …except this year, they came to early in NC and the frost got to mine 🙁
Dogwoods are my favorite flowering tree. Love Resurrection Rolls…this will be year 3 for us making them 🙂
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your web site. You are an inspiration to me. I love hiding God’s word in my kids’ hearts and you help me do that in creative and fun ways. Thanks you!

I love lilies and daffodils. We have several Easter lilies that are planted around our kids’ trees. I love when they come up, but it’s always long after Easter.
New reader~I am really enjoying your blog…so many great ideas! My fave spring flower is the daffodil~ a dear friend always planted tons of them and they continue to remind me of her. Plus they just look happy and smiling!
Love love your website! My favorite spring flower is the forsythia that blooms as a huge bush right outside my kitchen window. God is good!
Hands down, the hyacinth is my favorite spring flower. My mom used to put them on the Easter dinner table so their sweet, strong aroma remind me of the hope and joy that Jesus brings as He conquered death for us.
I love tulips!! The best part of spring is seeing all our plants starting to grow again!
Mine is the Lily of the Valley. I have a spring birthday. Every year my Grandmother would give me a vase of lily of the valley from her garden for my birthday. It was something special I looked forward to each year. I named my daughter Lily to honor this memory.
My dad always gets my mom an Easter lily for Easter. I’d have to say because of that, they are my favorite Easter flower!
I love daffodils, and my daughter is a fanatic for violets.
Thank you for sharing this book on your blog! I don’t have a favorite Easter/resurrection book at this point, except the Bible of course, so I’m looking forward to reading the book you’ve mentioned to my kids.
Love having the kids plant things and watch them grow. Especially flowers and veggies 🙂
I LOVE lilies! I wish they lasted a little longer! 🙂
I really love the story of Easter told through the 12 Easter eggs. My daughter begs for this story over and over!
Tulips are my favorite sign of spring!
One of my favorite Spring flowers is the dogwood blossom — pink or white, both are so very lovely!
I love daisies.
My absolute favorite thing about spring is the blossoming orange trees! They have the most amazing smell! It reinvigorates me every time. Driving past the orange groves I can’t help but smile when my car is filled with that amazing aroma! I have two in may backyard and love to go out there and stand near them for their uplifting aroma. Simply joy =)
It’s not exactly Spring specific, but The Gardener by Sarah Stewart is amazing, as is the character’s name, Lydia Grace!
starbursts jelly beans get me everytime!
What I love best about spring is little girls in fancy dresses with bonnets and gloves. Twirly spring dresses are my favorite!
I love hanging out outside with my kids! (fishing is usually their choice activity) just for the record my favorite flower is the sunflower
I loved your scavenger type Easter egg hunt. Nice way to keep it fair and everyone happy Moms/kids. A fun twist.
I love getting book titles for books that will prick a child’s heart and make them think about others, create compassion and empathy. Awesome suggestion
My favorite flower is the lilac. When we use to drive in the car wih the widows down on a Spring day that smell just wafts in and overwhelms your senses. Miss those here in the south.
I love tulips! I also love making flowers by painting the bottom of soda cans and stamping them on paper with my kiddos!

Hi Amanda,
I’m a Preschool Teacher in North Pole Alaska,I was looking for a craft to do with my kids that didn’t have anything to do with bunnies or eggs, thank you so much for the hand print lily craft idea, I will use it with the children in my class tomorrow. Happy Easter 🙂
~Darla
i love love tulips!!
I just love her Pumpkin Patch Parable book. I haven’t seen the Easter book. I’m sure our kiddos would enjoy it though! We love to make resurrection rolls for Easter. We have also enjoyed doing Ann Voskamp’s Cradle to the Cross wreath with the Trail to the Tree devotions.
I’d love to share this with my daughter!
