Hermie

You know I’m a fan of almost all Christian kids’ movies and books. I think it is so important to surround your kids with God’s Word however you can. We like everything from Boz to Psalty. But somehow we’ve missed out on Hermie.

You know, Max Lucado’s little caterpillar friend?

I mean, I think we do have one or two of the movies that grandparents picked up when they were $5 at Family Christian Store. But we’ve never had the books or even watched the movies more than once. I don’t know why!

Tommy Mommy recently emailed me about a new version of Hermie that’s designed for 0-4 year olds. And since Asa is smack dab in the middle of that demographic, we said yes! The Little Hermie series are little board books showcasing Hermie as a little worm and Hermie’s prayers of thanksgiving to God.

I watched a video of Max Lucado talking about Hermie and he said the main idea they want kids to take away from Hermie is that God loves them and listens to them. I love that part about God listening to them. I want my 2 year old to know that God listens to him. What a difference if we all believed that with every bit of us!

Asa has really fallen in love with Hermie. Even though they are short books (which is a no-no for bedtime at our house) he loves when I pull them out. And I love the lyrical prayers and sweet illustrations.

Tommy Nelson has also redesigned the original Hermie, a Common Caterpillar (to be a lot cuter, in my opinion) and put it in a Level 2 Reader book. Lydia is doing good at reading so far–can’t wait till she’s big enough to read them on her own! I actually read it to Asa last night and loves looking at all the different animals (bugs? insects?) and notice their colors.

If you’d like to preview the books, you can see an online flipbook of them on Tommy Nelson’s site:

Thank You God, for Loving Me

Thank You God, for Blessing Me

Hermie, a Common Caterpillar

How cool is that?!

I was not familiar with these books but I have a two year old and would LOVE to introduce these concepts to her through the books! Seems like whatever she “reads” she retains.

I just discovered your blog & I love it because I’m always looking for ideas to do with my almost 4 year old. I taught 2nd grade for six years & K for a year, and always did a class project with Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and now I’m staying at home with my two babes, Kate & Emma (4 months) and would love to read about a NEW carterpillar named Hermie. I’m looking for books that teach about God and would love to try these, thank you for sharing!

I would love to win this for my two-year-old, I’ve been wanting to find a good way to teach him about God. I have him watching Veggie Tales already but he would love this little guy! He calls caterpillars “caperbillers”.

My daughter adored the Hermie books and video we got her. I think Hermie has helped develop her love/infatuation with caterpillars and butterflies. She would love to win this and share her passion and love for caterpillars (Hermie) with her little brother!

Would love a set of these for my children. We found Hermie about 2 years ago and have really enjoyed the morals the videos teach as well as teaching God’s love for each of us. My 3 year old is learning to read and would love to read about her friends. Especially knowing that God’s not finished with us yet, we are all a work in progress.

We have the original “Hermie the Common Caterpillar” from used book store- marker scribbles and all it’s one my and my 2 y.o. daughter’s favorites. I’m so excited to have found your blog tonight; I too have spent hours scouring the internet for Christian themed young toddler books, movies, crafts, etc. My biggest dissapointment is the lack of Christian toddler entertainment on Netflix instant play and Pandora…
    Thanks for writting!
