This is a guest post from one of my online sisterhicks, Mary Carver of Giving Up On Perfect:
I’ve shared on my blog a time or two (or three) that my house is less than awesome. It’s old and small and evidence that my husband and I were first-time suckers home buyers. But it’s a home, and I work hard to stay positive and thankful for what we have.
My parents, on the other hand, have been fervently and faithfully praying for our new house. They are believing God for the miracle it will take to get us out of our little money pit.I’ve been thinking about guest bathrooms lately – and how much I can’t wait to have one again. We currently have one small bathroom, and it works well enough. But as someone who enjoys having guests in my home, I long for the day I have a guest room – and bathroom to go with it.
Hence the title. I’ve been daydreaming and believing for a new house (someday) with a guest bathroom. And, wouldn’t you know, Pinterest is a great place to do those things (and find pretty pictures). Here’s some guest bathroom inspiration I’ve been loving (and pinning) lately:
- Clean lines – There’s just something about this modern bathroom and its sharp lines. It looks contemporary but still warm.
- Funny wall art – I don’t know that I’d ever really put this in my house, but looking at it cracks me up! And a little bathroom humor never hurt anyone, right?
- Pops of color – Beautiful bathrooms tend to be decorated in calming, neutral colors. And I get that. I like that. But these pops of turquoise, which just happens to be one of my favorite colors, bring this room to life if you ask me. Which, clearly, you did.
- A fun theme – I don’t imagine I’ll line the walls of any future rooms in my future home with starfish. But being a little whimsical with a guest room (or bathroom)? I can get behind that idea!
- Small, thoughtful touches – I remember the first time I saw my cousin’s guest bathroom. She had a basket with a new toothbrush, tube of toothpaste and little bottles of shampoo and conditioner. I thought she was brilliant! And I can’t wait for the day I put together a little guest toiletry basket – or drawer – of my own.
- Natural light – Obviously, natural light would be helpful for guests who have to apply make-up. But more importantly, isn’t that bathroom gorgeous?!
- Hotel-like treatment – It’s the little things, right?
- Cute sayings on the wall – I love vinyl wall sayings. And there are lots of cute options for the bathroom. Another one I saw goes next to the mirror and says, “Yes, you are the fairest one of all.” Love that!
- Pretty shower curtains – I’m not sure how you would go about washing this. But that’s the beauty of daydreaming: I don’t have to worry about tiny details like that. I can just admire the pretty ruffles and put it on my wish list!
- Tranquility – I really do look forward to the day that I can create a warm, peaceful space for my friends and family to visit. And if it looks like this bathroom? Even better.
Do you have any bathroom daydreams? And do you Pinterest? What are you loving, pinning or listing today?

Ooh! I pinned the wall of seashells too. Even posted it on my Tropic Home and Family blog. I love the “his” and “her” signs, though! Heh.

I DREAM of renovating our {tiny} bathroom. Love these ideas, and #2 totally cracked me up! Thanks for sharing!
ps…I’m curious what program you used to make your cute collage. I just spent way too much time attempting to do something like that, but just couldn’t figure out how to make it look cute!

You could easily make something like that in Picasa, which is free Google photo software. You can add numbers/text to photos in Picasa like that too, although Mary may have used something different/ fancier. And I agree that it is a lovely collage (and lovely Pinterest selections).

One bathroom is definitely tough. When my sister lived with us, we had 3 adults and 2 tiny ones (in various stages of potty training) and 2 bathrooms. And one was inside the master bedroom, where sometimes the baby was sleeping, so then it was more like ONE bathroom, with a low-flush toilet that did not always flush….
My husband grew up in a small apt. with his parents and 2 siblings and one bathroom — but they were poor immigrants. Anyway, not enough bathrooms is a tough fate for anyone. Personally, I think every house should have a toilet (half-bath) near the front door, but a guest bath room (and guest room) is especially lovely. When my sister moved out, we changed her bedroom to an office/ guest room (with sofa bed), which I love having, even though we rarely have guests. At least when my in-laws come for their extended visit, I won’t have to kick my kids out of their bedroom.

These bathroom ideas are great. The house I’m in now needs a second bathroom, especially with 5 people living here.
And I Love the vinyl sayings! But I’ll work on getting the heat fixed in the first bathroom before I worry about a second. brrr. lol

Oh goodness! That first bathroom picture had me DROOLING!!! We’re also in a fixer-upper. I like to call the house the Love Shack (Because it takes a whole LOTTA lovin’ to keep me sane in that shack). π I can’t wait until I have a guest room either! We’re inhariting my grandmother’s bedroom suite so I’m planning on doing an antique room. I can’t wait! Yes, I do Pintrest….right now I’m planning our outdoor space….chimney, patio, deck, landscaping, lighting….oh, I love pintrest.

Having a serene and luxurious bathroom would be my ultimate home decor fantasy. I’m addicted to Pinterest, too, and my favorite bathroom pin so far had a huge whirlpool tub and a fireplace. Pour me a glass of wine and I’d never come out!

We remodeled our guest bathroom last year and every time I walk in there I love it. It just makes me happy.
And, yes, I’m on Pinterest and I love it (when I have time to get over there, that is).

We just bought a foreclosure and so yeah, the bathrooms are pretty gross (I mean they’re clean. now. but look pretty bad) I love all your pinned stuff and am heade over now to repin some of them. That ruffled shower curtain would be so cute in the girls bath and I dream of having a claw foot tub. Great post!

And yes, my bathroom could use some spiffing up!

I love dreaming of remodels! We, too, have just one bathroom and I can already tell that with 2 girls, that is never going to work. (They’re only 4 and 6 and already fight over the bathroom!) A guest bath – how fabulous that would be!

I love these pics! That ruffled shower curtain is beautiful, and it would look amazing in my bathroom. π I also have no idea how I would wash it, but in my dreams, washing isn’t included.

I grew up with only one bathroom in the house, I didn’t really know any different. Now that I’m all grown up (haha) with my own house, I am praising the Lord that we have 3 toilets in this house. None of them are very pretty and all of them need work (2 have the 1960’s pink tile, pink toilet, pink sink…), but it is nice. I adore your Pinterest links, especially the ruffled shower curtain. We only have one shower and that would never fly with the husband, but I. love. it.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I believe everything published was very logical. However, think on this, suppose you added a little information? I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your website, however what if you added something that grabbed a person’s attention? I mean Daydream Believing and Guest Bathrooms | ohamanda.com is a little plain. You might look at Yahoo’s home page and watch how they create article titles to get viewers to open the links. You might add a related video or a related picture or two to get readers excited about everything’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it could make your posts a little livelier.

With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My blog has a lot of unique content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement. Do you know any methods to help stop content from being stolen? I’d certainly appreciate it.
