First Day of Kindergarten

Today was the day. FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN. I was pretty nervous that Lydia was going to be well, nervous. But as the day got nearer, Lydia didn’t get more nervous. She got more excited! We went to her open house on Friday and even though she was pale-faced and tight-lipped she adored being in the classroom and meeting her teachers.

Last night we spent the evening packing her backpack. We got the CUTEST backpack from Land’s End. It’s a smaller size than most of the gigantors you see at Target (at least the ones I saw at Target) and it’s got her name embroidered on it. And a bunny. To remind her of Flopsy. (*sniff*)

First we had to put in a big t-shirt for Art. (She told Asa, “I’m going to paint at school, buddy. Maybe I’ll bring home a painting tomorrow!”) We also had to pack an extra pair of clothes. Considering there is a uniform policy, I’m glad Old Navy had shirts for $5 this week! And the most exciting part of all–her lunch! We just did a plain old PB&J with some fruit. But oh man, she is excited about eating it!

The rest of her school supplies are at school. We had to buy 50million things–paper, crayons, paints, ziploc bags, tissues and more. The teacher said since we’re only going to be there 2 days a week, she doesn’t want to spend valuable time looking for so-and-so’s crayon box. I think that’s a good idea. But it does seem funny to carry a backpack with just food and clothes in it!

Here’s a few pictures of her from today…

She’s showing Asa every compartment in her backpack. There are 3 whole compartments AND a little pencil case which she is using to store chapstick.

And here she is showing me how heavy it is to carry 2 water bottles and her lunch to school!

Posing on the front porch. She said, “Do I have to carry this sign to school?”

My brave girl and her backpack walking right into school. *double sniff*

As soon as Asa wakes up from his nap, we are off to pick her up! I can’t wait to see the before-and-after of the first day. Wonder how disheveled that little backpack will be? And how tired my little girl will be?

Disclosure: Land’s End provided me with a backpack in return for a review.ย  (Which by the way, is on sale for like $27 right now. Check out their adorable line of backpacks for all size-kids. They are completely customizable with cute names & characters!) I was already going to buy one from Land’s End because Lydia had been practically sleeping with the catalog when she first saw it. Win-win!

How cute! My daughter is only 2 now, so we are a ways away from Kindergarten. But time flies I hear and can’t imagine what I will feel like on her first day.

The backpack is so cute. And I love the photo tags you added. Such a great and cute idea! Any tips on where to buy one or how to make one?

Thanks for sharing your moments with us! I love reading. ๐Ÿ™‚

What an exciting day for Lydia! My oldest starts preschool next Wednesday. It’s just two days a week, but I am an emotional mess about it. She, on the other hand, is super excited. Baby steps for mama. Baby steps. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Absolutely adorable! I bought Alina the same sized backpack from Lands End last year for Pre-K. Since she hardly used it and it looks brand new, she is super excited to use it for Kindergarten too! Only, she is going 5 days a week, full days! I am feeling a bit nervous myself. I hope she fares as well as Lydia did!

So happy for Lydia! I have a kindergartener starting in a few weeks and will need the tissues! She is my middle child but it doesn’t get any easier. Glad you were able to find a school choice that works for your family.

My oldest starts Kindergarten in two weeks.
I am starting to …….. have…. anxiety — and I teach at the school where he is going! (perhaps that is part of the problem??)

    So cute…
Awesome that Land’s End provided the backpack that she was already in love with!

Oh man… I am looking forward to posts that tell the other side of the first day!

Happy first day of school to Lydia!
Had to click on over to read the post about your school…we’re in a similar scenario…university model school…the crew goes M/W/F and then everybody works from home T/TH…
Fun to know there are options like that out there! ๐Ÿ™‚

So cute! I love the backpack and how it’s a smaller size…but I don’t think I’m going to be able to talk my daughter out of getting the Disney Princess one she has her heart set on. She starts next week! We’re doing the same thing as you…two days at school, three homeschooling with me. And I have the same sign all ready for her first day photo! Hope it’s going well for you guys so far…looks like you’re off to a great start!

I believe everything published was very reasonable. However, consider this, suppose you added a little information? I mean, I don’t wish to tell you how to run your blog, however what if you added something that makes people want more? I mean First Day of Kindergarten & a Lands End Backpack Review | ohamanda.com is a little vanilla. You should look at Yahoo’s front page and see how they create news titles to grab viewers interested. You might add a video or a picture or two to grab readers excited about what you’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it might bring your posts a little bit more interesting.
