This week the Super Sunny Day Bible story at church was about baby Moses. This is one of my favorite stories because of the characters—I love imagining what it must have been like for a little baby inside a tar-covered basket. I love thinking about the big sister, Miriam obeying her mom and following baby Moses into the water. And of course, I can identify with Moses’ mother and the sacrifice she made for her son.
The instructions from our “Chalk It Up” card were to draw a river with blue chalk down our driveway. Then talk about the story of baby Moses. The kids really got into the river. It went ALL the way down our driveway. And we added fish.
After our river was ready, we got a basket, a baby and a blanket and acted out the whole thing! Here’s Lydia and Asa being Miriam and hiding in the bushes looking at baby Moses in the Nile River.
Of course, Lydia loved being the Princess.
Asa just liked moving baby Moses around the river. He was very protective of the little guy. They played it so seriously and (Lydia especially) made sure all the parts were played correctly!
I don’t know why we don’t act out Bible stories more. The kids love to play and act. Remember our Joseph role-playing at Christmas? Even now whenever you even get a towel near them, they throw it on their heads and pretend to be Joseph. I need to make more of an effort to facilitate acting out of Bible stories. It helps cement the story in their minds.
Our Nile River is still on the driveway so every time we pull in the kids say we’re swimming in the river! It’s been a really fun activity! Grab some chalk, act out a story and have a super sunny day!

What a fun idea! Your post reminded me of our little family watching “Prince of Egypt” a few weeks ago. Hubs & I saw it when it first came out, but we hadn’t seen it in years and the kids hadn’t seen it at all. Hubs and I both teared up in the first 5 minutes of the movie, when Jochebed is running from the Egyptians and singing about keeping her baby safe.
