One Day Without Shoes: Top Ten {Tuesday}

Remember how every month I you we give to a different organization or ministry? I take a portion of the money I make via ads, campaigns and sponsored posts and then highlight a cool organization or ministry and give them a gift each month. I love it because it shows YOU some cool places to plant your money AND I get to give. Which honestly, makes me happy!

Today I was actually reading the blogs in my feedreader. I haven’t done this in months. I just see that it gets up to like 1000+ unread messages and mark ALL AS READ. And I hate doing that. I miss out on a bunch of good stuff. Anywhoo. Today I was determined to read through every single post in my reader. (And I did!) The one post that stuck out to me was on the Compassion Blog about TOMS One Day Without Shoes.

You know about TOMS Shoes right? It’s an organization that provides shoes for kids in impoverished countries. And they also sell shoes to rich Americans (that’s me and you). And when YOU buy one pair of shoes, Tom’s donates a pair of shoes to a child in another country.

Why shoes? Well, according to their website, kids can get diseases from not wearing shoes! In fact, there are many soil-transmitted diseases that can penetrate the skin through feet! Can you imagine? Not to mention the kids that are unable to go to school because they are barefoot!

To help promote TOMS Shoes, their mission and the plight of poverty-stricken kids around the world today (Tuesday, April 5) is TOMS annual ONE DAY WITHOUT SHOES. All you gotta do is not wear shoes. (Or wear your TOMS, of course.) And when someone asks why you are barefoot you can tell them! Isn’t that fun? {You can even upload pics of your shoeless day and get a big group together and have a barefoot event!}

So. Today the kids and I are going without shoes. And I’m asking you to do the same! In fact, to encourage you, I’m going to share some TOMS Shoes & info AND give you the chance to win a $50 giftcard to TOMS. Then you’ll be able to wear your TOMS Shoes AND give a pair of shoes to a child in need!

  1. i own 19 pairs of shoes not counting my slippers. i own 1 pair of TOMS so that cancels out at least 1 pair of my shoes right? i would love to get another pair of TOMS so that another child in need could own her 1st pair of shoes….

  20. My sister LOVES TOMS… in fact, all the members of her wedding party in June will be wearing TOMS with their formal wear!

    I don’t know how many pairs of shoes I own (I have a lot of shoes I don’t wear, but haven’t gotten rid of), but I probably wear less than 10 different pair on a *regular* basis.

  26. How many shoes do I own? um…. I’m embarrassed to even say my guesstimate now that you shared that… I own about 75-100 including flip flops. I went through a shopaholic phase in college and the few years after.

  30. I can’t go without shoes today – it is pouring outside and I have a meeting at school. Yes, it would be a conversation starter but I need all minds focused on the meeting agenda. I stopped by the Tom’s website -LOVE the wedges. I may order a pair when our next paycheck comes in (there are moths currently residing in my wallet so I must wait). Thanks for sharing a good cause!

  43. I only own about 10 pair of shoes. I went thru them recently to donate shoes that I don’t/can’t wear anymore and de-clutter. I’m going partially shoeless today. I know, I’m a wimp (got yelled at when I was at church this morning b/c I had flip flops on) 🙁

  45. I have 7 pairs of boots (1 brown, 2 black, 1 snow boots, 1 hiking boots, 1 grey boots, 1 pair of cowboy boots), 7 pairs of flats (which I wear constantly), 4 pairs of heels, and 7 pairs of sandals for a total of 25. I do not own a pair of TOMS but I will buy a pair even if I don’t win the gift card b/c they’re SUPER cute, comfy, stylish, will get worn a lot (I’m a mom) and I know that someone else will also get a pair, someone who needs one.
