I adore all the stuff that comes with Valentine’s Day–secrets, cards, flowers, CHOCOLATE and gifts. But I certainly don’t want my kids focusing on romantic love before they should. So, I’ve been trying to think of some Valentine’s Day stuff that’s got a little Scripture twist to it. Today we made some cards that have a little surprise inside…

Just a note: I was going to begin this post with a self-depreciating comment about how I didn’t even check a mirror before we made this video. I’m a lipstick girl and the fact that I didn’t wear lipstick was bothering me. In fact, as I began to film I said to Lydia, “Ugh! I need some lipstick!” But Asa was already sitting on the counter and Lydia was poised to vlog for you, so I bit the bullet and went sans lipstick. Later as we watched the video (while I’m thinking how strange my hair looks and my lips look bare) Lydia says, “Ugh! I need some lipstick.” And I felt sick. My beautiful, perfectly formed little 5 year old was scrutinizing herself. Granted she was only mimicking me, but I felt as if she was mimicking not just my words but my actions–that looking for the flaws was the normal and right thing to do. Lord, help me be an example in my words and actions! Help me show my children that beauty, love and worth is found in you alone!

May I just say that you are beautiful and I cannot imagine your lips any other color!
Your kids are cuties AND the heart note is a sweet idea! Love that you used it to put your memory verse in!!
Thank you for the sweet comment! It was definitely a learning moment for ME!
And the craft fit so perfectly with the verse since it talks about “hiding”, so I loved it! 🙂

Love this idea, we have some Valentine’s Day cards to make today for some missionary kids and this is what we will be doing. Thanks for the wonderful idea. Thank you also for being honest and talking about the lipstick thing, I think we all struggle from time to time with the image we put out there of ourselves. It is just nice to hear that I am not alone and that I (and you) can have the courage to put it out there even when it is not “perfect” in our eyes.
How neat! This is something that my daughter would love to do. Thanks for sharing.
What a cute little Vlogger she is…takes after her mamma!
Thanks for this great idea…I’ll be doing it for my boys!
Blessings!
this is great amanda. and my goodness….i did not even notice you were lipstick-naked:)
great craft!!
i’m totally going to do this with my little girl!
oh and ps…i love how your little boy seemed to be mouthing the scripture too!
teaching great things little mama
He really was saying it! He said Psalm 119 and that’s why I turned the camera on him! I’m surprised at how much he knows when we repeat verses!
Beautiful lipstick or not! The kids are adorable, and we are going to do this craft today in my afterschool Kids Club at church. What a great idea. Love your blog.
Could I <3 it more? Thanks for linking up and spreading the word too!
Love the craft! Love your kids! Lydia is such a beauty and I could just kiss Asa!!!! Soo cute! You are a blessed Mama!
Great craft and Scripture is always a blessing.
I like this idea, but there is NO way I could get over 45 done for V-Day, plus care for 4 small children! I will for SURE copy this one and put it in our activity book for when the kids are older! My kids do however make their own valentines, very simple and VERY low cost! I try not to fall into the depths of commercialism 🙂
Thanks for linking up this week!
great Valentine’s secrets by sweet little hands!

how cute going to try this with my 7 and 3 year old boys. I think this will make them giggle.
Great tutorial and what a cute girl, she is adorable.
Those are so sweet!
And I know what you mean about imitators. My 3yo has picked up on the whole “I need to lose weight” concept and it’s really made me check my words.
Thanks for being brave enough to add the extra comment about the lipstick! God made your lips perfectly — don’t fret the lack of lipstick! 🙂 Your kids are totally cute! I can’t wait to try this easy project with my kids. Thanks!!
Thank you! 🙂
Thanks for sharing this craft idea and also your heart about teaching our children true beauty. I have had similar regrets when complaining about my graying hair in front of my children and have needed to remind myself what true beauty is. Thanks for sharing!
