Cheeseball, Cookies & Recipes! (*giveaway*)

NestlΓ© Family Holiday Exchange

Southern Plate 24/7 Moms Oh Amanda SuperMom Central The Mommy-Files

This morning I ate the Cheeseball from Heaven {you want to make this, I promise} for breakfast. Yes, I did. For an afternoon snack I’m going to have Hello Dolly bars. And that, my friends is my favorite way to enjoy holiday foods. Yeah, I like them at a party or at Christmas dinner. But I love sneaking my favorite (and yearly) snacks during the day. It makes them feel magical. Am I the only one?

Our family doesn’t have tons of traditional Christmas recipes besides the two I mentioned above. I mean, my dad makes a mean version of Emeril’s corn. But besides that, we generally like all food. That’s probably why we don’t have anything traditional–we like to try new things and eat whatever Daddy likes to cook us!

The tradition Lydia wants to start this year is Christmas cookies. We have this cool Christms cookie jar and she is determined to fill it with actual cookies. I was looking through the Nestle Holiday Celebrations website and thought we could make some of these yummies:

Minty Mistletoe cookie

When we lived in Orlando, our church delivered cookies to all the first time visitors. (Tell me you wouldn’t wanna come back to our church after that?!) One of the cookies we delivered was homemade by one of our members—it was like a giant sugar cookie with an Ande’s candy inside. OH. MY. YUM. I have never ever found a cookie that has equaled it. But this one might do as a good substitute.

I also like cute little sleigh idea. Lydia and Asa would tear them apart of course, but it would be fun to make at first! And actually, now that I think about it–fun to tear apart!

But the one I really want to do is this . Because first of all–if you use those break-and-bake cookies I think it would take like 10 minutes. I think I might make this for the Sisterchick Christmas Party! (What do you think, girls?)

What’s your favorite Christmas recipe? Do you have a traditional family food? Share it in the comments (or even a link to it on your blog) and you’ll be entered to WIN a baking package from Nestle including a VIP coupon/product for CARNATION Evaporated Milk, TOLL HOUSE Morsels, Refrigerated Cookie Dough and a $25 Visa gift card for other baking supplies. Hello! I hear a cookie party in the works!

I love all the comments on the Family Tradition giveaway—if you haven’t entered, what are you waiting for? I’m leaving it open till Saturday!

Every Christmas morning we always have Pillsbury cinnamon rolls for breakfast. We open some of the gifts and then take a break for cinnamon rolls, eggs, and sausage. It’s a family tradition. πŸ™‚

Actually, my favorite Christmas treat is pumpkin muffins. I also make chocolate dipped cookies and pretzels for my husbands work.

I love to eat my snacks when the kids are in bed. It’s like my reward for getting through the day. πŸ™‚ My favorite holiday treats are 30 Minute Caramels. They are so easy and so good. I always miss my mother’s homemade chocolates with creamy fondant inside.

    I love making peppermint bark at Christmastime–a layer of milk chocolate, a layer of white chocolate flavored with peppermint extract, and a generous sprinkling of crushed candy canes. Yummmm! {In fact, I might make my first batch today, super easy!}

My husband is the cookie baker in our family…I just burn them. He is known for his delicious chocolate peanut butter cookies….YUM! They are always a hit when I bring them for a cookie exchange….which is another tradition I love! And our family always does a Chinese Auction….spend $10 on a unisex gift, pick a number out of a hat, pick a gift, and let the stealing and swiping begin…. much fun indeed!

Pfeffernusse. My mom and I just made a huge batch of them, and I am LOVING them right now. Also – I made batch of Chocolate Cherry biscotti that were DIVINE! Too bad I had to give those all away… I will be making another batch. I actually think that’s a Nestle recipe…

My favorite Christmas recipe are my mom’s ‘peanut butter kiss’ cookie. They’re so simple. Sugar, eggs, peanut butter. Press in a Hershey’s kiss, bake for 5 mins. My favorite cookies!

Our tradition in the morning – wake up the girls, unwrap presents, eat breakfast (a Danish Kringle with eggs on the side), then it’s time to play!

We always make tons of cookies, but my favorite is making a birthday cake for Jesus. My daughter wouldn’t let us celebrate a birthday without cake πŸ™‚

That Christmas Wreath is fantastic! I might have my girls help me make one (or several) of those this year.

My family has an oatmeal macaroon cookie recipe that I love.

My mom, grandmother, sister and I always make sticky buns right before Christmas. And these are like the old fashion sticky buns…the ones that take 8 hours to complete because you have to let them rise and all that jazz. Then everyone fights over them on Christmas morning (especially the ones with raisins). When I was growing up, all I remember is getting to wear an apron (or one of my grandfather’s shirts) and getting covered in flour. Now, my sister and I do most of it, while my mom and grandma drink tea…but they’ve earned it, I think.

My mom would always make No Bake Cookies at Christmas time, which were always a hit, that I eventually took it over! It’s so easy to make!

Ingredients: 2 cups sugar, 1 stick butter, 1/3 cup milk, 1/3 cup cocoa, 3 cups Quaker Oats.

In a Saucepan, combine sugar, butter, milk, and cocoa. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Continue to boil 3 minutes, keep stirring.
Remove from heat after 3 minutes and stir in oats. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper. Let stand until firm. YUM
This recipe should make about 3 dozen.

I don’t really have a traditional Christmas cookie recipe. My family occasionally makes butter cookies for Christmas, but we don’t have a real tradition. That’s something I’d like to start in the future. πŸ™‚

My Mom always made Peanut Butter Balls. I just made a big batch today. I think they are pretty close to a cookie. πŸ™‚ So here is the recipe: SO good

    -2 sticks of soft margarine
    -1 lb. of peanut butter
    -2 lbs. of confectioners sugar
    -3 tsp. of vanilla
-1 block of milk chocolate almond bark OR 12 oz of semi sweet choc. chips

Mix all the ingredients EXCEPT chocolate. Roll into balls(golf ball size). Then put in the freezer until firm. Melt almond bark or 12 oz semi sweet choc. chips and dip PB balls into chocolate. Put on wax paper and let harden.

*If you use semi sweet choc. chips you will want to add paraffin wax while melting it to help it coat the PB balls.*

but one of my favorite holiday baking traditions is Monkey Bread for Christmas morning. What a great way to celebrate!

Hmmm, my newest tradition is making Oreo truffles. I had them a few years ago at a Christmas party and fell.in.love.

Funny “traditional Christmas food” story is that one year my mom mentioned to us kids that she was going to make frozen lasagna for Christmas Eve because it was our “tradition”. Neither of us remembered it being a tradition, I think we had just done it for a few years since it was easy to make with all the busyness of Christmas Eve but it was hilarious that my mom wanted to make it for us since she thought we would miss it if she didn’t. After that year though, we did make it a tradition to eat frozen lasagna on Christmas Eve!
