When my husband and I first got married we decided to not watch television for the first year–unless it was a movie we already owned. Strangely, the only movies we owned were Veggie Tales. Yup, college students who stocked up on Veggie Tales!
When we finally switched to DVDs, we continued to hoard Veggie Tales knowing one day we’d want our kids to watch them. I’ve recounted how sometimes the vegetables-dressed-as-famous-literary-characters-telling-Bible-stories can be confusing. But there is no denying the humor, the attraction AND the truth from God’s Word. And that is really what I want my kids to know.
When I went to the Dominican Republic with World Vision, some of the other people on the trip were from Veggie Tales and they told us a secret—that a new Veggie Tales show was coming out! A PRINCESS VEGGIE! We made them tell us all about it (include letting us hear the new music by Nichole Nordeman) and made them promise we could promote it on our blogs. Veggie Tales has the same mission as this blog–to give parents resources to show their kids God’s Word. How could I not love them?
Now, onto Sweetpea Beauty! (First of all, isn’t that title great?) This DVD is actually two stories: Snoodlerella’s Tale and Sweetpea Beauty.
Snoodlerella is a Cinderella-like story of an unattractive veggie that realizes her true beauty comes from her value to the King. The King values everything about her and that’s what makes her truly beautiful. Oh, that puts tears in my eyes! I want Lydia to understand her value is not wrapped up in her outer skin. I want her to see she is beautiful because God loves her!
Sweetpea Beauty is a Snow White, Sleeping Beauty kind of adventure. With a little Dorian Gray thrown in! Sweetpea Beauty is a pretty scallion (?) that sees God’s beauty everywhere–in everyone and everything. She teaches the Queen that true beauty is within. And she saves the kingdom, too of course!
My daughter Lydia is 4 years old and a princess movie is right up her alley. She watched it unblinking and then when it was done she listened to the CD three times in a row…while doing her own ballet princess worship dance to every song. I loved how quickly she responded to this true-beauty-princess.
Every truth in this video is exactly the message we want our girls (and boys) to hear. As kids are constantly being compared to peers and siblings, they can begin to focus on their outward beauty or their accomplishments. This movie remindsย them God loves them and values them–and that’s what makes them beautiful and lovely! Here’s the gorgeous theme song from Nichole Nordeman. You must listen! Wait! First go grab your kids and watch together!

OH WHEERRRE IS MY HAIR BRUSH?!
Tweeted it!
We love “Lord of the Beans”. I think we’ve seen it at least 5 times. Before we had kids. But now my daughter would love this!
My husband and I also started collecting Veggie Tales in college, a decade before we had kids! I still remember when we watched the first one. It was “Josh and the Big Wall,” and when it came time for the silly song? “The Song of the Cebu”? I literally fell off the couch laughing.
I LOVE Veggie Tales.

My daughters and I love Pistachio, but I think Sweet Pea will by far pass it.
My favorite “silly song” is the Gated Community! LOVE IT!
My favorite Veggie Tales moment is hearing my daughter sing along with “God Made Me Special” in the car. ๐ She’s having a Veggie Tales birthday party this year, and I’m giving her this video as a gift!
My 4yr old seen th preview for this and she is so excited! Her favorite veggie moment is mr lundt singing th cheeseburger song…
We are HUGE Veggietales fans around here. I have a 4 year old daughter as well and we watch several shows a week! I think our favorite right now is Lord of the Beans. But our first favorite silly song was “oh where is my hairbrush” We listen to the songs again and again and again!!
I will try to recreate this line as best as I can. My favorite is from “Are You My Neighbor?”
Bob and Larry ask Junior something like, “Didn’t you minor in Astrophysics and Space Dynamics at the so-and-so preschool?” Junior:
“Yep!” Larry: “What was your major?” Junior: “Coloring.”
Watched that one a LOT when I was a daycare teacher back in high school. It’s old school but still awesome. ๐
My daughter has one DVD and we have not watched it in years, so my favorite princess is Sleeping Beauty. Now I will have to pull out the DVD and watch it as she is older and will understand it more.
Hard to choose one, but I love Rack, Shack and Benny on peer pressure. I know my daughter (and I) will love SweetPea Beauty! Thanks to you and Veggie Tales for this chance.
I haven’t watched VeggieTales in a long time … though I’m sure we will watch them more as my daughter gets older. So my favorite princess is probably Belle … I love a girl that loves to read ๐
The silly songs are the favorites of our house, top on the long list of favs: Barbara Manatee, and the cheeseburger song. Thanks for sharing this you made my boys day!
Just posted about this on facebook.
just posted this on my blog.
Favorite Veggie Tale song is The Hairbrush Song
My favorite Veggie Tales moment is actually not of a specific video moment, but instead a story like yours. Back in college our co-op went on a retreat. We were staying at a rural church and while waiting in line for showers one day, some stumbled on a stash of Veggie Tale videos in the kids Sunday School room, which resulted into a Veggie Tale singing party while people waited in line. Classic.
we love veggietales! just a few weeks ago my kids & i were at the grocery store and both of them were singing “God is bigger than the Boogie Man” probably louder than they should have, but it was cute so i let them. a store employee walked by and said “Do you like the Veggie Tales? I do too! And my kids are in their 20s!” ๐ it was a sweet little moment.
thanks for the chance to win the new movie.
PS: i love your little girl’s ballet move-is she on a step? cute.
Cheeseburger song! But my favorite Veggietales “moment” is my son linking the stories from the videos to stories he hears from church… melts my heart!
And I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to win this for my little princess ๐
We have a few Veggietales DVDs at our home, but princesses are quite a bit more popular with my 2 little girls at the moment. Their favorite princesses are Cinderella and Belle. I know they would both love SweetPea Beauty!
I love the silly songs. My boys do too. You should hear them singing the songs all through the house. It’s just too cute!
“I wanted to play MouseTrap. You roll your dice, you move your mice…nobody gets hurt” is one of my favorite lines. We are a house of VegHeads. You can guarantee if one can’t find a hairbrush s/he will be belting the hairbrush song until it is found. We also love the Thankful song, The Bunny Song, I Love My Lips, and Barbara Manatee. So many great Veg moments! My kids have learned so much from the Veggies! I’m really looking forward to this new movie. ‘Sweetpea’ is what Daddy calls our little princess. Her current fave Veggie is Esther.
Wow, what a great song…love it. I would love this DVD for my 3 year old daughter. Thanks for the opportunity!
My favorite VeggieTales is Gideon. There are so many funny lines in there. “I thought he just left Bibles in hotel rooms.” ๐
I’m looking forward to Sweetpea Beauty, with two girls 4 and 2 in our home, I see the beauty struggle already!
Thanks for the review and chance to win!
love the Jonah veggie tales…and my favorite princess is Cinderella!
BTW….480 shoes!!!
As small kids, both of my children were afflicted with boogie-man-in-the-closet/under-the-bed/behind-the-curtains-itis. As a result, bedtime each night offered a host of obstacles and challenges that I was not well equipped to handle.
One day a friend introduced us to Veggie Tales and everything changed. “God is Bigger Than the Boogeyman” became an anthem in our house that has remained quite a force to this day though my kids are now 14 and 23!
I now give it as a gift to all of the children in my life around their 3rd birthday or so and they all LOVE IT!
Kudos to the Big Idea crew for creating something that can put the creative mind of a 4 year old at ease with something so simple as a catchy tune!
Hearing my kids trying to sing the words to the Veggie Tales they watched while at Grandma & Grandpa’s is my favorite Veggie Tales moment!
Jessica
We listen to the songs more than watch the movies. We love God is Bigger than the Boogie Man. My 6 year old loves Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho.

We love all the VeggieTales so much it’s hard to choose a favorite, but I am especially fond of the story of St. Patrick. It gets quoted regularly at my house. LOL This new one looks wonderful!
Lord of the Beans! I laugh everytime.

Mine may be different than the others…
My daughter has a speech disorder…and long before she said mama or dada (well after her second birthday), Meghan said BOB. ๐
I would love a DVD. We have a short CD that came in a Chick-fil-A happy meal that we love to listen to.
The Cebu are my favorite. I had to pull it up on You-tube so the kids and I could sing. Then again all the silly songs are just great! We are so looking forward to this new movie!
Oh I LOVE Veggie Tales and Nicole Nordeman! My fave moment is probably the whole “Oh Where Is My Hairbrush” song!
Oh I love the silly songs…where’s my hairbrush cracks me up. Love those veggies!
I love the Lord of the Beans. Love it!
I RT @oohamanda tweet. That is how I found this giveaway.

Little Joe is one of my favorites. We love veggie tales so much that in our house my son makes everything that is green Larry and anything red is Bob. Crayons, blocks, fruit snacks you name it. It is all about Bob and Larry.
Oh, we love Veggie Tales, but we don’t have any yet! My favorite Veggie Moment is being in the car with the CD…all of us belting out the songs! ๐
