You know, we’ve been “up and running” again for several months, and we just wanted to check in with you guys to see how YOU are doing. We’d love to know more about you – so if you’re a regular reader, or even a first-timer, can you leave us a comment and answer the Top Ten Questions we have for you?
- What’s your name?
- Where are you from?
- How many children do you have and what are their ages?
- Do you blog? Share a link to your blog with us if you do!
- What do you think your biggest challenge is as a parent to impress God’s Word on your children?
- What’s your favorite Bible verse about parenting?
- What’s your favorite rainy day activity?
- What’s your favorite color?
- Where do you go when you need some peace and quiet?
- What would you like to see from Impress Your Kids over the next several months? Is there anything you’d like to see more/less of?
Now, here are my answers…
- Leigh (aka Momma and My Love)
- I’m from Atlanta, but I live in Richmond, VA now. I love it up here!
- I have 2 kiddos – Elias is almost 4 and Donovan is almost 2.
- I do blog – I actually have a blogging problem. I have 4 blogs – only one of which is active right now (Impress Your Kids). I had to stop the other 3 so I could actually spend time with my kids.
- My biggest challenge is scheduling time to do activities with the kids. If I don’t schedule it, it typically doesn’t happen. Also, it doesn’t happen naturally for me – I really have to think and plan things through.
- “Behold, children are a gift of the LORD…” Psalm 127:3; “But Jesus called for them, saying, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” ” Luke 18:16
- I love to sit on the front porch with the boys and watch the rain. This really only works when it’s warm and rainy, though… otherwise, we build forts.
- GREEN! My current favorite is spring green. Nice and fresh.
- For peace and quiet, I really don’t go anywhere yet. I can see how it would help to have someplace special to go, but there’s not a place in the house that I can go that I can’t hear the boys. So I guess I would have to leave the house for peace and quiet. Leaving the boys appropriately supervised, of course.
- I’m excited about the next several months at IYK. I’m always looking forward to more fabulous ideas from Amanda, and I’m excited about what I have planned for the boys. And with Christmas coming (soon! argh!), there seem to be even more opportunities to share the Word of God with the kids.
Please let us know a bit about yourself… we really want to know you better!

I’m Amanda (sometimes called ohAmanda…)
I’m from the ATL! But have lived in Orlando, Birmingham, Denver and Tulsa and Missouri!
Two kiddos: Lydia 3.5, Asa 1
ohamanda.com & this one!
Biggest challenge: time for sure. i get caught up in life and forget the little things. also—being an example. *whew* I pray I am the kind of person my children can mimic and be worthy of mimic-ing!
I just love the verse in Deuteronomy that this blog is based on…God COMMANDS us—before anything else to impress God’s Word on our kids’ hearts. Oh, there is so much meaning in there to me! I have the opportunity & the ability to MOLD my kid’s hearts! (Also, quite scary.)
Rainy Day activity: sleep. Oh. You mean w/the kids? *sigh*
Fave color: PURPLE
Peace/Quiet: when I’m with the kids, sometimes I just strap them in the car and drive. they are both safe, we can listen to music and watch the scenery…
#10: DO TELL! (for me, I can’t wait for Christmas! I love talking about Jesus’ birth!)

1. Jeni
2. Currently outside of Nashville, but have lived in Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, California, Alaska, Texas, Montana, England, and Greece. (whew!)
3. 2 kids – a 3yo girl and a 4 1/2mo boy
4. jeniallen.blogspot.com
5. My biggest personal challenge is in getting out from behind the computer screen to interact with my children. (And here I sit typing…)
6. Hosea 11 – the description of God’s love for Israel, as a parent loving a wayward child. It’s such a good reminder to me of the fact that God loves us anyway, despite all of our ridiculous misbehavior – and that we should mirror that love for our children.
7. I’m all out. I could use some suggestions, since it seems to rain here all the time in the fall & winter!
8. Teal or purple.
9. I take my kids to Grandma’s house & then come back to my own quiet house!
10. I would LOVE to see book recommendations for kids.

Kaye says
Here we go:
1.) Kaye
2.) from Alabama but currently live in Savannah, GA
3.) two – Patrick is 4 and Abigail is 3-1/2 months
4.) I overblog. My frugal blog is http://mrsnespysworld.blogspot.com. My personal/mommy blog is http://ridingbicycles.blogspot.com. My faith-based blog is http://silentstones.blogspot.com.
5.) My biggest challenge, to be honest, is myself. I can preach it to them every breath, but I have to be sure that I’m living it out myself!
6.) Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. But if my kids ask me I will tell them “Honor your Father and Mother.” =)
7.) Curling up under a blanket with either a good book or a good movie.
8.) Orange. Yeah, it’s loud, but it has so many great uses. =)
9.) to a bubble bath with strict instructions that I’m not to be bothered unless something or someone is on fire.
10.) Haven’t been following you long, so I’m excited to just look around and see what you’ve got in store for us!

3. 2- Kenton, 2.5 and Kami, 8 months
4. I don’t blog, but am addicted to reading them. I was referred to ohamanda by her friend Corey Richmond.
5. I think the biggest challenge is all the competing things in your life (which goes back to the time thing). Between soccer practice and preschool play dates, we have to be intentional about dedicating (and even scheduling) time for God for us and our kids.
6. Ephesians 6:1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” :O)
7. Snuggling up on the couch and watching National Geographic animal shows with my son… he is weird, would rather watch that than cartoons.
8. It’s a tie between Orange and Purple. Love them both, sometimes together.
9. I sit in my car. Roll the windows down and just sit…
10. Ideas for teaching young children about the birth of Jesus (so excited to see what you have to say Amanda) and keeping the festivities from having feast over the rest of my life.
Thanks so much for this blog, you guys are wonderful!!

5. I think the biggest challenge is leading my children to WANT to know God’s Word.
6. Deut. 6:4-9
7. My favorite rainy-day activity is curling up with a book. But my children don’t have much attention span for being read to, so that’s not much of a family activity for us. 🙁
8. Favorite colors: blue, purple, grey, silver, black, and red
9. Peace and quiet?
10. I would like to hear specific ideas for impressing upon our children an *awe* of God – helping them to recognize His greatness. The Bible says that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge. But how do we teach little ones to fear God? How do we inspire them to recognize His majesty and power and “bigness”?
