Our first verse for the Fruit of the Spirit is 2 Timothy 1:7 from the New International Reader’s Version. I made up some motions for the verse and Lydia memorized it immediately!
In the video you’ll see she misquotes it a little but the thought is still the same. I did a “take 2” but Asa was crying during the whole thing. Kind ruined the mood, you know?
(You’ll also notice she says the reference before and after. I read somewhere that for really good recall you should memorize it that way. Seemed like a good idea…)
Seriously, if you are not helping your kids memorize scripture, you are missing out on the PRIME time. Kids memorize quickly and it will stay with them forever! The motions helped her stay focused and memorize it, too.

We’ve gotten out of the habit of memorizing verses but just started again this week with A from ABC Bible Versus, “A soft answer turns away wrath.” I love that book because it helps them apply it and memorize it at the same time!

How incredibly sweet. The verses I still remember word-for-word are the ones I learned as a kid. You think Libbie’s too young to memorize Scripture? I think they’d all come out as da-da-da. 🙂

Here is a YouTube video we made of my son singing Galatians 5:22. We taught it to him in the “tune” of cadence…”I don’t know what I’ve been told…Galatians got the Fruit of Gold. Patience, love, joy, peace and faith….with gentleness he’ll get the praise. Self control with kind and good…we’ll be like Jesus said we should. Ask me what would Jesus do…Galatians 5 verse 22…We’ve got the fruit!
