A New Chapter

My grandfather’s High School Graduation. 1946.

I know graduation was a few months ago (feels like weeks) but we just had a little off-to-college party for my cousin who’s leaving for college on Friday! So, when I saw this picture of Grandpa (my cousin’s Grandpa, too), it just made me think of them in the exact same stage of life.

Of course, Grandpa didn’t go to college. He was a farmer and hated it. He was one of those guys who hung out at the pool hall and left the farm as soon as possible. Maybe right after graduation?

He died when I was in 8th grade and had Alzheiemer’s several years before that. So, I don’t have many (any) fun memories of him. But Mama says he knew everything about the land—trees, birds, plants, animals. Even though he “hated” the farm, he was still a farm boy at heart!

This picture makes me want to know him more.

I love pictures of my family. Especially the older pictures. They let me peek into a time in their lives long before me.

I love seeing old pics. i have some around my house of my parents as children and my grandparents. I like to think of what they were thinking when the photo was taken and what was going on in their lives at that exact moment. My grandfather died of Alzhimers too. It’s such a sad disease.

Welcome!
