Sugar & Spice or Snips & Snails?

For some unknown reason when Lydia was born we didn’t send out birth announcements. Les made a few for us when he used to have photoshop but for some reason we just never printed them/sent them out. Does that make me a bad mom?

Since then, I feel like I have seen some of the most beautiful announcements ever. It’s made me mad at myself for not doing it with Lydia. And I promised I’d do better with the next one! So, I’ve been taking mental notes on these cute announcements. The style I’d like, the colors, the wording and the pictures. I know I’m only 20 weeks, but these are things I have to think about!

(I haven’t even considered one name yet, but I have been thinking about announcements!)

Well, lucky for me, I have some great friends who have their own custom card design company! Snips of Sugar is run by two of my favorite sahm‘s. They both have sons the exact same age as Lydia and a second baby to boot! And somehow they manage to crank out amazing designs all the time.

And one of my favorite ideas ever—photo thank you cards. No more writing long thank you notes for the loud plastic ducky or pound of candy someone gave your child. No more recounting each and every spatula and dish someone sent you for your shower. Just send ’em a cute picture you’re done. LOVE. IT.


Now, let’s get to the good part! Snips of Sugar has offered a FREE DESIGN for one of you! You can pick from one of their pre-designed cards or they’ll design a custom card for your next party, thank-you, baby or holiday. Then they’ll send you the high-resolution image and you can get it printed at your local print shop (or as I like to call it, Walgreen’s).

All you have to do is GUESS. That’s right, I’ve got my big PINK or BLUE ultrasound coming up on THURSDAY (that’s my birthday, for those of you taking notes). Leave me a comment on THIS post with your boy/girl guess. I’ll try to keep it quiet all the way until FRIDAY then I’ll pick a winner from among the ones that guessed correctly. And you’ll be on your way to your very own custom photo cards!

And if you want to make a very educated guess, let me give you a few insights to my pregnancy…just what you’ve always wanted…

1. I have had headaches almost the whole time. HEAD. ACHES.
2. I am craving Coke. And I don’t even drink soft drinks. Haven’t had one in five years probably.
3. I was queasy the first trimester. Never threw up, though.
4. I can’t stand to watch Paula Abdul. (oh, I think that’s all the time. sorry.)
5. I’m still exhausted in my 2nd trimester.
6. Here’s a belly shot from today. (I’m wearing a maternity shirt!)
7. My skin is breaking out. What am I, 16?!

OK, start guessing! Will it be pink or blue? princess or pirate? boy or girl?

  6. I will guess boy just to go against the grain. So, has the hair on your legs stopped growing or has it grown rapidly? One of my friends actually asked me that yesterday. Apparently hers stopped growing–she had a boy. If I could only be so lucky! My hair, all of it, is growing like kudzu. Blech.

  8. OK – I think you’re going to buck the trend that EVERYONE I know is having the same thing for the 2nd baby. And we’ve had the only boys! So you’re going to have a boy. My boys need a buddy!

  11. Oh girl- I am totally with you on all your pregnancy symptoms- even Paula Abdul! I think you’re going to have another girl, but either way I just hope your baby is more cooperative for the ultrasound than mine!

  13. Since your list of pregnancy symptoms sounded just like me pregnant…I am going to guess BOY cuz thats what I got 🙂 We all need another blue pirate in the world!

  16. Hmm… I was hoping that there would be more votes for one than the other so that I could just pick the underdog in hopes of increasing my odds, but it seems to be a pretty even split so far. I guess I’ll just stick with my notion that boy babies are actually just a myth anyway (have you ever actually seen one? I haven’t.) and say GIRL. I hope I win, I hope I win – I *love* their stuff!

  18. I’ve been having a “girl” feeling for you, but now that I see all of the comments, I want to root for the underdog and say “boy”. Of course since my “in-house” designer might just get his feelings hurt if I let someone else design our birth announcement, I will delightfully commit to neither and wish everyone else the best of luck!

    Oh, shoot, I have to take a guess. I think girl. But don’t include me in the drawing!

  31. Okay, I was slightly or a little more than slightly tempted to cheat. I figured I would find out tomorrow what you were having from the family then I could come and “guess”-but I decided to be a good girl. Because I would love some cute baby announcements. 2 1/2 weeks to go! But, I would like for you to have a boy but my gut is a girl. So I am officially guessing a GIRL. Can’t wait you see you in June. Especially Lydia. She is getting so big. It will be exactly a year since we last saw her. Crazy how time flies.

  48. It really is the year of the wiener with my friends so I’m going with boy. I can totally see Lydia making her younger brother dress up and play tea with her and he’ll be so in love with her he can’t say no! Have fun and hoping your baby is an exhibitionist in there!!
