Lydia does not watch a lot of tv. Well, to me, she doesn’t watch a lot of tv. I’m not one who keeps the tv on for company. I don’t really like a lot of extra noise. She watches Sesame Street during breakfast. Then an occasional Playhouse Disney show in the afternoon. The only thing we ever listen to on the ipod is Psalty or Baby Signing Time.
Well, the other day Les wasn’t home, I was trying to cook dinner and Lydia was just a little grumpy, so I put her in the high chair in front of the tv and let her watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Personally, I love this show. I do! I’m not into kid’s shows that are about being a friend or equlity or global warming. I don’t want the world to teach her morality, just numbers and colors. Anywhoooo. So, I’m listening to Mickey and Minnie try to solve a problem. Then Mickey says, “We need a mouskatool! We need to call Toodles!” And what does Lydia say as loud and clear as can be? “OH, TOODLES!” *sigh*
Later on, we were printing some coloring sheets from the computer. There was a banner on the top of the page of Little Einsteins. Lydia started pointing, jumping up and down and said, “Rocket! Rocket! Rocket!” And to quote Quincy, “I can-not believe it!”
Do your kids respond to TV?

My kids don’t do it so much anymore but Blues Clues was huge with them. Kate loves Dora and will yell map and backpack.
Brooke freaks out when she hears the theme song to Blue’s Clues comes on. She puts her fists under her chin like she is thinking, waves her hand during mailtime, and dances and says good bye at the end of the show. LOL
(btw..this time it showed up at the top. Just thought I would let you know)/
I had Evan over yesterday and we watched “The Lion King”. There’s one part when Simba & Nala ask their moms to go play and both look up at their moms and with big eyes and wide smile they say “Pleeeeeease?”. Evan thought it was hilarious and went around saying “pleeeease”.
So, yes, I guess you could say he most definitely responded to TV!!
When it was just the one kid, Livi only watched Sesame Street so I could get ready in the morning. Now that we have Max, too, I freak out when we get to the 2-hour mark and I’m not done with my shower, dishes, laundry, etc. But the one show they will both sit down and watch is Little Einsteins. Max starts clapping and bouncing when it comes on. But yes, we all know “Oh, Toodles!” and “Map!” and “La, la, la, la. La, la, la, la. Elmo’s World!”
Oh yeah. The first thing he says when we walk into the living room is “on” (while pointing to the TV)… he used to want me to rock him for a few minutes until he was ready for his milk.
He often hands me the remote (which translates into “please turn on Backyardigans”)!
Not only do my kids respond to the T.V., I encourage them to do it. I’d probably have to say that it mainly started with Blue’s Clues, but they do it with almost everything they watch. Of course dh and I talk to the T.V. too.
