The Paradox of Wordless Wednesday

My grandfather, grandmother, mom, my 2 aunts. June 1971.
ccf29082007_00002.jpg

This picture is just awesome because of their clothes and hairstyles. I love every bit of it. I mean, Grandpa has on striped pants! And Mama, your hair!

This is a very strange picture for me emotionally. I never knew my grandparents married to each other. My grandparents were divorced when Mama was a teenager. She got married 3 years after this photo was taken, so it must have been around this time. Grandpa died when I was in 8th grade. Grandma died last October. Consequently, this picture is happy and sad. I’m happy to see their family together. Then I feel sad because I wonder if they were all glad to be together in this picture. And then a little empty because Grandma & Grandpa are gone.

Isn’t it startling how pictures can move you emotionally?

They look so happy. I don’t ‘get’ divorce…

That’s moving to hear the story behind the photo. Yeah, it’s funny what a picture can’t capture – all that’s going on. It’s creepy to look back at a moment in time and know all that came before and after it.

    (Still LOVE your site….)

Yes, photos DO bring back memories, good and/or bad.
We always laugh at the styles and clothes, but just watch….soon they will be back i style again…just a bit modified.

    Happy WW!

Yes, I absolutely agree with how pictures can move you. That’s why I adore taking them so much and why I adore running across old ones of memorable events. There’s nothing like a picture. nothing. I don’t know how anyone could not love photographs. Great picture, a. I love the hair! And you look like your mama!

It is something how even divorces of grandparents touch the lives of the grandchildren as well. Thanks for sharing such a tender moment of your family history. All the women are beautiful.

    Have a wonderful WW!

What a great old photo. Yes – it is sometimes very strange to look back at these long gone moments when everyone seemed to be happy and wonder what happened.

Pictures hold so much power and emotion. They are often the only thing that captures a memory and your picture becomes your memory. What a fun picture. Love the clothing.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
