Today’s sermon was just awesome. The title was “Boulevard of Broken Dreams: Some Dreams Can’t Come True”. With a title like that, it’s gotta be interesting, right? I usually don’t like to hear about dreams not coming true because I believe that God has GREAT and WONDERFUL plans for us. So, I was intrigued when the pastor began his message.
The Bible story he related was in 1 Samuel 21 & 22. David, the anointed and chosen future king was running from the present & un-anointed King Saul. David panics because he sees his own reign slipping through his fingers. Instead of turning to God and asking Him what to do, he makes some bad decisions including lying, stealing and dishonoring God. These decisions cause an avalanche of terrible and heinous acts.
What would have happened if David had “inquired of the Lord” instead of planning his own way back to God’s original plan of becoming King? Probably not a disaster.
Your dream may have been a marriage, a job, children or something secret in your heart of hearts. It may seem broken & unable to come true now. So, what’s your choice? Panic & try to figure it out on your own? Or lean into Jesus? Inquire of him and see how He’d like to lead you to his GREAT and WONDERFUL plan?
You are right. It was an awesome sermon – so powerfu$l! I left crying and feeling like God was reading my mail again (He has a tendency to do that). I especially loved what the pastor said about thinking about a marker – something physical in your life to remind you of how God has been faithful in the past and how He will be faithful still. Something immediately came to my mind, and I know I will remember that next time I’m thinking about my broken dream!
Sounds like a wonderful message Amanda, thank you for passing it on. We have always been mindful of some of the major ways God has moved in our lives to be assured of His faithfulness. God is good, all the time.
Somehow I needed to see this post this morning – I’m just returning to trust in God, and with all the drama that’s been going on around me as of late, I’ve been having a bit of a struggle.
So…thank you. 🙂
Since I’m reading all your blogs in one evening trying to catch up, I’m really enjoying the ones about your sermons. They sound amazing. I hope to find a new church like yours. We’re on a mission. Say a prayer for us if you would? I really really want a great church family with a pastor that speaks to my heart. And thank you for ending with music. It’s really nice to hear as I sit here and work right now . . .
