The Most Random Post in all of Bloggy-ville

Ever since I read my first Works for Me Wednesday over at Rocks in My Dryer, I have wanted to share this. Well, kinda. I’m about to show the blogosphere the inner workings of my hair care. Something you’ve always wanted to know, I’m sure.

So, without further ado,

HOW TO GET MORE OUT OF YOUR HAIR PRODUCTS!

You know how you spend like $15 on one 6 oz tube of hair gel? The stuff that makes you feel like sometimes you are actually having a good hair day? This is mine. Rusk Wired. I cannot live without it.

When the bottle is almost empty, you start squeezing from the bottom. Then, you turn the nozzle to the left and then to the right. You turn it upside down. You brace it with your other bottles at an angle. Anything to get those last few drops out.

Well, I now have the solution.

That’s right, CUT IT OPEN! You need to cut it a little less than (or is that more than?) half way down. You’ll see why in a minute.

Now look at this! Gobs of Wired! Product galore! Oodles and oodles of gelly goodness!

But here’s the best part! Once you’ve swiped out all that hair-nectar from the top, just slide the tube back on to save the rest of of your product for the next day!

Isn’t that cute? I did this 13 days ago and I’m still using it! That’s almost 2 extra weeks of good hair days, people!

I don’t know if you would consider this saving the environment, my wallet or my hair, but hey–it works for me!

(Just for full disclosure, my mom actually showed me this. And I promise, I will never again discuss my hair regimen on here. I’m all about transparency, but this feels kinda weird.)

Thanks for sharing this!! I have cut open bottles and things like that before, but putting it back together like that so it doesn’t dry out… much better than covering with plastic wrap. 😉

Great idea! I am kind of a freak about trying to get the last out of a tube, so I will definitely be trying this one.

That is hilarious!! I have a face cream that is driving me crazy. It is ’empty’ but I see well over a weeks worth in there. It is not a tube though. You have inspired me to try and get my little piggies in there and get that face cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought of that. Too bad I don’t buy stuff I can cut open; I’m one of those who use the spray cans, and right now, I’m not caring if it’s bad for the environment.

I’m rather obsessive about trying to get everything out of tube products and this is such a GREAT tip! For some reason I’ve never thought of cutting it but it’s so clever! Actually I’ve wanted to post about this very thing, is it ok if I link to this post of yours? You already have such great pictures and a tutorial with it! Let me know if it’s ok.
