I’m Wordless this Wednesday

Quote from my great-uncle’s email:

This is another oldie for today. The full names of these people are Jefferson Frank and his wife Lennah Savannah and their youngest son Frankie Wayne. Of course most of you know them simply as Paw Paw, Maw Maw and Frankie.

Don’t have the date of the picture or the exact location where it was taken. I think Frankie looks about 9 or 10 which would make the date either 1940 or 1941. Maw Maw would be 43 or 44 and Paw Paw would be 47 or 48.

At that time they had a close friend named Thad that lived in Forsyth, Georgia . I have mentioned before that Thad was cripple and that Paw Paw made a lot of devices from sheet metal (his trade) that helped Thad to walk and to drive. [My great aunt] that on this day they were visiting Thad in Forsyth.

Looks like it may be summer time with the short sleeves and Frankie in shorts. Paw Paw was bald on top and use to wear some type of hat in the summer to keep his head from blistering. Straw hats were worn in the summer so the air could penetrate and felt hats in the Winter to keep the head warm. [My great aunt] doesn’t remember her Dad ever having hair on top of his head.

I would guess this picture was on a Sunday because almost everyone use to visit their friends and relatives a lot on Sunday afternoons.
Now days, we can’t seem to find time to do that. I wonder why?

Isn’t that great? And look at the jaunty tilt of Paw Paw’s hat!)

    Again, love it.

From the looks of it, I would definitely say the early 1940’s. From my findings with grandma’s diary and her pictures, her father had the same style of hat in all his pictures and the house style . . very similar also. Love these, Amanda. I think so many look forward to your WW’s. I do! 🙂

I love photos from the past … they have so much meaning, and create such imagination looking at them. I agree about the Sudnay visits. We did that growing up – and it’s unheard of now. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful old family photo. By chance today I have childhood photos of my grandmother for WW. Don’t you just love trying to put yourself there with them?
