When I was little, every Christmas my mom would make let us sing a song before we opened presents. Usually it was a song from our church’s Christmas play. This is one of many amazing photos of Jason and me performing for the fam. Don’t we look excited? And exciting?
Well, besides my beautiful 10 year old self singing a song, there are more wonderful things about this Christmas photo. Care to look around?
1. The gifts. How is it that wrapping paper and bows can look retro? I mean, they are unusually un-trendy!
2. Grandpa. That’s my mom’s dad. He died when I was in 8th grade. I just like looking at him because this was before he got sick. (Notice his excitement at watching his grandchildren sing. We must have been so entertaining!)
3. Jason, my bro. He was 7 here. And boy howdy can he rock a geometric multi-colored sweater.
4. Oh, Amanda. Indeed. The hair. The dress. The shoes. The beautiful expression.
5. Technology. Do you see that tape deck? And the rotary cable box? Suh-weet!
6. The mantle. That’s my stocking—I know because there’s a little doll sticking out of it. We always put little stuffed animals in our stockings until “Santa” filled them up! And the four candles? I mean, how Christmas-y!
What did your Christmas of 1987 look like?

Ok, I sat here for a few minutes trying to figure out why you both had numbers on your clothes. I thought his was part of the classy 80s sweater so I thought maybe you pinned one on to match. Clearly, I need more sleep 🙂

A walk down memory lane! Fun! Look how long your hair was.

Heehee … I was trying to figure out the numbers on your clothes too!! I got to the bottom & I was still wondering – “ok – but why didn’t she explain the numbers!!” … i get it now:)

What a walk down memory lane. Your brothers sweater reminds me of “The Cosby Show.”
Perhaps the most difficult thing for me is to see the 80’s referred to as ‘retro’ and realizing how old that means I must be. I graduated High School in ’87. Was it really that long ago??

a) It took me three tries to realize you didn’t actually have those numbers on your shirts. Wow.
b) Christmas 1987, I was 5 and my sister was almost 3. We lived in a tiny ranch house in Bristol, Indiana. I don’t remember the Christmas specifically, but I do remember singing in the children’s choir at our little bitty church and it would have been around this time. 🙂 Then I imagine we went to Dayton to have Christmas with my parents’ families. Good times!

Pretty much the same, except no singing and no grandpa watching. But I was 10 in 1987 too.

I think we’re soul sisters.

girl – my Christmas in ’87 was a lot like yours. Except I didn’t have the long, pretty hair. I had short, permed hair. yay. I did have the younger brother, the tape deck, the stocking (although my stuffed animal for my stocking was a penguin)… were you still in ATL here? See, we had the same Christmas!

I didn’t exist yet. I think the parentals had plans of making me, but it just was not a reality yet. However, Micah was 5 months olds.

A lot like yours…

That was my same stocking!

Oh my heavens! You had to sing for your presents?! My Mama would still to this day give me presents NOT to sing.
1987…Hmmm…. could’ve been the year of the Coca-Cola shirt, red jeans & black Reebok high tops. But I’m not posting THAT one, sista!
