To my Asa. My babiest boy,

How are you 2 years old? How is it that you can walk…ok, you’re not walking that great because of the cast. But you do have the cutest little waddle. How is it that you can talk? “Mommy? Down?” when you want me to read you a book. “Good monin, Eeeya!” when Lydia walks down the stairs in the morning. “Daddy funny!” when Daddy kisses your neck.

When they put you in my arms at the hospital, I didn’t know you. I had hoped I’d KNOW you. Instead, I’ve had to learn you. I’ve had to get to know you. And I am amazed at the depth of your SELF. You are quick to laugh, to smile and to flash your electric blue eyes. You stick out your little tongue in a flirtatious way that makes everyone you meet giggle. Your teachers at church oooh and ahhh when you come to the door. They praise your happy disposition and dimpled chin. You make Lydia and me laugh with your antics. You tell jokes, dance in circles and run and hide so we’ll chase you. You  make our days brighter, louder and more exciting.
