So, in two weeks from TODAY I will be here:
I will be bringing this with me:

And although I’ve had it for a long time, I’m still afraid most of my pictures will end up like this:
(yes, I really took that picture.)
So, for you photogs (especially you self-taught wannabes), where can I find some good tutorials online? Preferably video? Or at least really really basic? You know, something for the complete moron.
And oh, don’t you think this gorgeous camera strap from Eclectic Whatnot would automatically make me a better photographer?
OK, what’s your favorite digital photography resource?

Let me begin with the fact that I hope you have a wonderful trip to Disney (I am of course very jealous). Over the years I have seen a lot of photo pointers from Ree (The Pioneer Woman) and at 5 Minutes For Mom. Good luck and thanks to digital cameras the beauty is to just take lots of pictures and hope for the best.
I am SO with you on not knowing how to take GREAT pics with my DSLR! And it just so happens that Amanda from “Kevin & Amanda” (http://www.kevinandamanda.com/whatsnew/tutorials/photography-tutorial-a-quick-guide-to-understanding-your-digital-slr-camera.html) JUST posted a tutorial on this very thing today! Must be providence. 🙂 Pioneer Woman is also great, as mentioned above. Best of luck!
I enjoy Natalie Norton’s articles at Digital Photography School (http://www.digital-photography-school.com/?s=natalie+norton&search=Search) I even saw one on camera shake.
so happy for you that you’ll be in WDW!!!
Is it for Magical Moms
mycharmingkids.net has some- i can’t figure out how to link to them directly but if you put your mouse over ‘photography’ at the top there is a dropdown to tutorials- people recommend ‘digital photography school’ to me but mostly their blog posts are over my head. I am taking baby, baby steps. Have fun!
I’m a big fan of Ken Rockwell. Here’s the link for his stuff on Nikons – http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/index.htm I couldn’t tell exactly which model you pictured here, but he has them all listed. He’s helped me a lot. Good luck!
Hey sweets…first off LOVE the new site. Its so purdy and soooo YOU!
Secondly I recommend getting a book (gasp! I know a book!) Called understanding exposure. It is a great resource and well worth the $20 price. They don’t use fancy smancy lens, they use everyday stuff and talk in terms in which we all can understand. It improved my photography a lot and now I shoot on all manual because of it. Seriously, this book is a MUST!
Thirdly…have fun in Disney!!
Amanda!! I LOVE the new site design!!
My husband has a Canon 50D and has always had great luck finding tutorials on YouTube, so I did a quick search for you and came up with this:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Nikon+DSLR+tutorials&aq=f
It came up with 521 results. You’ll probably find some good ones! 🙂
Have fun at Disney! We have yet to go there. Someday!
I can’t help you at all, but I hope you have a great trip! And by the way, I was catching up on your blog, and your top ten tips for this week were awesome!
As a photographer I will 2nd the poster above that suggested the Book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson
http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-Exposure-3rd-Photographs-Camera/dp/0817439390/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1283571445&sr=8-1
RUN don’t walk and purchase this book and then read it. And when I say read I mean sit with your camera in your hands while reading and playing with your exposure taking lots and lots of practice shot!(when i started i sat in bed reading and took lots of photos of my toes!) Start practicing now, shoot anything that will stand still! Take plenty of memory cards with you and have a great time! 🙂
Oh Amanda…..
Was thinking about you today and your camera and all the fun stuff awaiting you to shoot. I’ve had almost this exact post in my head for months but no time to do it. Another Amanda over at Kevin and Amanda has a great post on her blog up today on learning your DSLR!

totally thought of you when i saw it! Enjoy!
I’m not help, but I hope you have a fantastic trip!
Oh definitely Digital Photography School from Darren Rowse. So much good stuff there it’ll blow your mind. Ken Rockwell is not bad, but he seems to talk mostly about equipment. The book Understanding Exposure is good, but personally I’m not the kind of person that can learn from a book. Scott Kelby has some great video tutorials, he even has a weekly webcast all about Nikon stuff.
