Top Ten {Tuesday}: ME

top-ten-tuesday

It’s been one of those days, folks. Asa is sick. He’s got the yuckiest cough I have ever heard in my life. He screams every time I wipe his faucet of a nose. He even cries when he sneezes. It’s unbelievably pathetic. Poor little guy.

Lydia is not sick but today I swear she was channeling a 12 year old. A twelve year old that I did not know. A twelve year old I didn’t know who is on an MTV show. She accidentally stabbed Asa in the eye with a stick thingie (yes, I like them play with a stick thingie) and when I told her to put it down because Asa was sobbing she said “I DON’T WANT TO PUT IT DOWN.” Then when I told her to go sit on the red chair for three minutes she said, “I DON’T WANT TO.” Really?!

I just don’t think Top Ten Responses I’d Like to Give When My Kids Disobey or Top Ten Over The Counter Medications I Wish My One Year Old Would Share With Me are the kind of lists you wanted to see today.

Instead, I’m going to bless you with my previous bests. That’s right, according to my amazing and inspiring stats, these are the Top Ten Oh Amanda Blog Posts Of All Time (with the exception of contests and stuff like that). You’re salivating aren’t you?

1. The Snowflake Party

snowflake party

YES! I knew it! I LOVE and ADORE this birthday party! This party has it all—food, crafts, costumes and an adorable guest of honor!

2. Sony Handycam HDR-SR10

I got this camera as a review item. And it doesn’t work with my Mac. And THAT is why people get to my blog. Because they are googling, “WHY ISN’T MY VIDEO CAMERA WORKING ON MY MAC?!”

3. Best Advent Calendars EVER

I’m already getting excited about the advent calendars this year. I’m going to do a follow up post with all the new ones I’ve discovered. YAY!

4. Nestle Family Blogger Event & Controversy

This is telling since this post is less than a month old. I don’t have much to add. It still kinda gets under my skin.

5. Once Upon A Time, I Was Famous

pampers bloggers mommy
This is one of many posts about my trip to Pampers Headquarters. It was my first bloggy event. It was also where I was introduced to UNICEF and their goal to eradicate tetanus around the world. Love it.

6. The Princess AND the Pirate
asa pirate
Oh, this is so sweet. This is the post where I announced Asa’s birth! His drug-free delivery no less!

7. Contemplating Unmedicated Childbirth

Speaking of which, here’s my post a few months earlier where I contemplate going drug-free for his delivery.

8. Right To Life

Stage

I participated in a silent march for the unborn. And I didn’t post this then but it was also the day I found out I was pregnant with Asa. Knowing I was carrying a tiny baby inside of me made the day even more moving.

9. My Miracle

Apparently, my reproductive-ness is high on the interest level here on the blog. This is the story of when I was pregnant with Lydia and they told me to have a D&C because she was dead. Yeah.

10. oh me

Actually this is THE number one post of all times. Obviously, because it’s my about me page. But hey, if you’ve never read it, I kinda like it. I have an affinity for “about me” pages. I read every one.

:: :: ::

Hey–what are your Top Ten posts? I’d love to read them! REALLY. Well, if you don’t want to share, please post another Top Ten—anything you’d like. Warrior Ben October 18, 2011 Wow, Ed! I have to give you major props for having the atdutite of looking at your disabilities as challenges. I can’t even begin to imagine what you are going through. Your positive atdutite of looking at using your disabilities to your advantage, rather than against you, is inspiring to not just me, but probably others as well. It also sounds like you have a good way to be able to communicate with business owners with the visual e-mail.As for an actual intro pitch, here is what I use when cold calling on the phone. I don’t have any experience doing a text/e-mail pitch, so hopefully you can take this and customize it to work for your situation. First, I only target businesses who are already running print ads. The reason I do this is two-fold: 1) I know they already have a marketing budget because they are running ads and 2) A QR Code/Mobile Website makes perfect sense to add on to any print ad. To find businesses who are running print ads, just start looking around. I save every Coupon Clipper, RedPlum, and ValPak that comes in the mail. I also look in the daily and weekly newspapers, as well as local magazines in my city. Yellow Pages are another great place to look.Once I have identified the businesses I will be calling, I try to find out who the owner is. I’ll first look on their website and if it isn’t there, I will go to the Secretary of State website for my state and search the business registrations. Almost always I will find the name of the owner there. Now that I have the name of the owner, I will call up the business and ask for the owner by name. I will ask with confidence and almost make it seem like the owner is expecting my call. I’ve found this is a great way to get past any gatekeeper.Once I have the owner on the phone, I always use a variation of this script, Hi John, my name is Ben and I own a local marketing company. I noticed you were running an ad in Coupon Clipper, which is why I called. What my company does is offer a 2D Barcode that is scannable by any cell phone with a camera. Once scanned the user is taken to a mobile web app that gives more information about your business than could otherwise fit on your print ad. The reason I’m calling you specifically today is to set up an appointment to meet with you and show you how the technology works. How does tomorrow at 2pm work for you? I’ve found this script to be very effective in getting appointments. By stating a specific time to meet, it puts the onus on the business owner to either say yes or say no to that specific time, not no to meeting with you in general. I also call QR Codes 2D Barcodes because people have a better understanding of barcodes than QR Codes. Same thing with calling the mobile website a mobile web app . People relate apps to smartphones so it helps people understand better.Anyway, I hope you are able to take something from this script and make it work for your circumstance. Thank you for your comment and I wish you the very best of luck moving forward. I’m glad I could help reignite the dream!-Ben

Sorry A man still isn’t any better:(
I can account for several searches on the snowflake party … I have to search “snowflake party food” everytime I’m looking for the cheeseball recipe:)

I looked/read through all of the advent calendar ideas. I have been toying with the idea of getting one this year for me and my 3 yr. old grandson to do together (he and his momma live with us). Do you think that 3 is too young to grasp the idea of it?

After what looks like hours of work, he ends the video by stating, I don’t know what to do. Said like a true aistrt! I have no doubt that Francisco’s ofrenda will look amazing.

Yeah those “I DON’T WANT TO” moments are the ones that freak me out when I think about being a mother one day. I don’t want to do the wrong thing because I don’t want to make it worse, I’m not sure what the right thing is, and doing nothing inevitably makes it worse…. when I get pregnant one day far down the road expect to see me at your front door. 🙂

Seeing your RTL march made me think of a post I wrote on that subject – lost me 7% of my subscribers! But you gotta speak the truth… http://www.kitchenstewardship.com/2009/09/21/mary-and-martha-moment-focusing-on-soap-vs-the-sanctity-of-life/

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
