I have recently begun perusing the thrift store. I’ve been looking for cheap playing cards to use as decor at Asa’s upcoming birthday party. I have not been successful. Why doesn’t anyone donate playing cards?!! If you find any let me know. The cheapest I can find them is about $.60 at Oriental Trading Company.
Where was I? Oh yeah, the thrift store.
Now, I know some of you are thrift store junkies and can find all sorts of goodies among the dust and grime. I am not that good. After perusing Kimba’s DIY Day, I always get inspired to find an old nasty entertainment center and turn it into a play kitchen or find an old jar and turn it into a new centerpiece but I’m too afraid. I’m afraid I’ll spend $1.25 on something that actually came from the dollar store.
Today however, I felt like a thrift store pro! I hit the book jackpot. Feast your eyes on this goodness:

The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear (Child’s Play Library) (an adorable board book.)
Betsy and Mr. Kilpatrickby Carolyn Haywood (one of my faves when I was a kid—plus it’s a yummy old hardback!)
Taffy and Melissa Molasses by Carolyn Haywood (another old hardback!)
Bears on Wheels by Stan and Jan Berenstain (I love a good Berenstain Bear book.)
Father Bear Comes Home by Else Hlmelund Minarik (I am a new Little Bear fan.)
Meet Kit(yes, as in the American Girl, Lydia’s new obsession.)
Eight Winnie-the-Pooh Books (Have you actually read the original Winnie the Pooh books by AA Milne? De-lightful.)
AND a random book I let Lydia pick out.
Plus, The Jungle Book record for Asa’s rock-n-roll room.
And every one of them is in pristine condition!
That’s like 16 items for $13. That’s a good deal, right? RIGHT?!
If you are thrift store junkie, what’s your best score? Any tips for this newbie?
{{i just found a real thrift store diva, Brittany at Dalomba Days AND she’s hosting a Goodwill Goodies carnival! so, i’m blushingly (is that word?) linking up today. don’t be too harsh with me, ladies!}}

I think the Dollar Tree has packs of cards (2 in a cello package) for, you guessed it, a dollar.
I love thrift stores, but I don’t need/have a place for any more stuff until I get rid of a lot of stuff! Therefore, I will be staying away from thrift stores/Target/Walmart/Hobby Lobby, et. al., for awhile!

If you’re just looking for cards for decorations, why don’t you scan a deck and then just print them on cardstock and cut them up?

I’m confused – 60cents. That’s too much?!? Is like per card or something? His invites were adorable … print alot of those out!! I’m having a hard time with his gift. Unless I just score super lucky it’s not going to fit the theme … super cute theme, but hard!!

Mandi: I just want the ACEs out of them. *sigh* I just thought I’d be able to find a box of them at Goodwill or on Craigslist.
Tamara: You know, I just thought of that, too. I might try it…
Bears on Wheels is a favorite at our house–and you found the Milne Winnie the Poohs! Lucky, lucky girl!
I love finding good books at the thrift store…you must tell me which one you went to. 16 books for 13 bucks—that’s REALLY good! We must go book hunting together sometime!
