Retro Photo: Then & Now

A few weeks ago I found an awesome Flickr group called Looking into the Past. The idea is to hold an old picture up in it’s exact modern location—so the old picture and the new scene meld. Did that make sense? Anyway, you have to see it for yourself. I could spend hours looking at each picture.

I wanted to do the same thing but haven’t found the right picture yet. I did find these…two pictures set in the same place and with practically the same people, just thirty years apart…

My great-grandfather & me. At his house. 1978.

Lydia and my Daddy. At my great-grandfather’s house. 2007.

When we visited my great-grandfather’s house (actually apartment, now GHETTO) a few years ago, we posed this picture from memory. I love seeing the two photos and thinking about the time and people and love that are connected there. It’s especially poignant because I don’t have any memories of my great-grandfather…but there I am smiling and being loved by him.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

You’re blaming Linux for having difficulty fixing a failing drive that uses a foreign file system. What is it supposed to do next, walk on water? My drive failed about a month ago (it’s 5 years old). It wouldn’t boot. I booted an AntiX LiveCD and used the fsck command. Thirty minutes later I rebooted and was up and running. I suspect I was lucky but that’s how it went. BTW the file system being repaired was ext3.

I hardly leave a response, but I glanced through some responses on this page Retro Photo: Then & Now | ohamanda.com. I do have a few questions for you if it’s allright. Could it be simply me or does it appear like some of these remarks appear like they are left by brain dead individuals? 😛 And, if you are posting on other sites, I’d like to follow you. Would you post a list of all of your social networking pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
