I hope you are not saying, “Well, YEAH!”
Here’s my email account dilemma…
I have a hotmail account for dumb subscriptions to stuff like Target, Martha Stewart and The Center for Puppetry Arts newsletters. I also have a yahoo account for everyday emails–it’s the email address I use when I leave comments on blogs, when I email my fam, etc. I also have my ohamanda.com account—that’s where all your comments go. And my dh and I have a joint email account we’ve had since about 1998.
The point is, I am getting SICK of checking all those silly accounts. I want to send them to ONE central email system. Should be easy right? Well, yahoo and hotmail won’t let me POP to gmail, my .mac account or any other email account without paying MONEY. What is up with that?!
So, what can I do? Should I bite the bullet and just change to ONE email? Then everyone will have to change their address books, I’ll have to re-subscribe to all my silly newsletters, set up filters and generally cause a shake up in my email-o-sphere.
Should I bite the other bullet and PAY MONEY for MY email?
Or should I just bite the third bullet and keep checking my mail the way I am?
What do you do? How many email accounts do you have? What do you use them for? Help me, please!

I feel your pain! I have a yahoo address for junk emails, a hotmail address for personal use and offers that I actually want, and a brand new gmail account that I want to make just for emails from people I know but like you understand how hard it will be to do it. Good luck!!

I have five email addresses (work, life, blog, junk mail, other work), and I have managed to get them to all come to my Outlook Express. My hotmail accounts are from WAY back, so I think that’s why they will open up on Outlook Express. I don’t think hotmail allows you to POP new accounts anymore (I could be wrong though).
Do you have an email address through your ISP? I know that Comcast allows you to set up a few different email addresses, and then you can have them all open up in Outlook Express–which is what I do. It keeps my life so much simpler. I have my emails set up so that my junk email won’t ‘ping’ my inbox; it only opens when I ask it to.

I use Outlook Express as well. My msn address and a couple of others go there. SO easy. I love Outlook and can’t stand when I have to check my email through hotmail’s site.

I have three email accounts…one with verizon, gmail, and my work one. Of course I can’t do anything with work so nuff said. My verizon is for family, friends, and I do use it for the bills and shopping online. My gmail is all blog stuff. I use it to comment, for PR people, and throughout the blogosphere. I do get junk at my verizon account, but there are pretty good filters there so not to much. I think having two is easy. I don’t like the idea of paying for email. Maybe you could slowly ease out of one by changing your email address on the account as they come in…for example when you get a newsletter go right over and change your email address. I think most people can easily update their contacts so just send out a mass email to any friends or family and don’t worry they will find you!!!

You know what? I have multiple e-mails too. I actually prefer it that way. I have one for my blog, one for junk mail and subscriptions as you mentioned, a personal e-mail for family and friends, a professional e-mail (not that I have done much with it!) — actually a couple of professional e-mail accounts. I like Yahoo and Gmail, but especially Gmail.

I just have the one email. I don’t think I could keep up with 3 different passwords!

Um, I’m an email account addict. So I’m not much help here!

I use digsby (digsby.com) I’m so not into gadgets and plug-ins and the like but I LOVE digsby. It shows when I have mail for each account and what it is… you can customize to not get pop-ups, etc, and just check the main panel. I have 3 that I use regularly. One for comments, one for junk (hotmail for me, too) and one for more personal stuff. Try it, you just might like it. 😉
I sound like I work for the company.

I had email addresses on every provider out there… 2 hotmail, yahoo, gmail… then our main family one from verizon…. I’ve gotten it down to the hotmail for junk, some blogstuff, and things I don’t want the Mr. to know about (gifts for him), and the main verizon one for family and friends, important account stuff, and some blog stuff. I completely forgot about what Stephanie said… I could have several email addresses through Verizon. But what if Josh saw what I was getting him for his birthday/anniversary/Christmas gift? I’d be too nervous about that….

I have several. Two that come through on our computer automatically on thunderbird… they are swbell.net accounts and are kinda together but separate. One yahoo for bloggy stuff and most other things. A google I never check. They almost all come to my cell phone too. yikes!
annie says
Just realized I wasn’t much help.
I like keeping things separate. So it works for me this way. But I really only “check” the yahoo email. The others are just there.

I have four email accounts. And I prefer to keep them all separate. HH has more than that and he SWEARS by Gmail to manage all of them.

That’s a LOT of bullets to bite. Hope you’ve got some strong teeth 🙂

Don’t pay! It’s not worth it, in my opinion, anyway. I have 3 email accounts. My hotmail I use for junk emails, so it doesn’t have to be checked to often. My yahoo I use for freecycle & my gmail, I use for everything else, like personal emails, blog subscriptions, bills, ect.
Depending on how busy all your emails are, I would just combine them all. I won’t combine my freecycle with my gmail, though, because our freecycle group is just to busy.
Hope you figure it out, so it’s easy for you.

I don’t think that it would be that hard for you to switch over to one email address. I get emails all the time of people changing their address and we just change it in our books. But I’m w/ you. I have my own yahoo, I share my hubs’ yahoo, we have a hotmail, and our website email that feeds into my yahoo. Where were we 15 years ago before email? 🙂

I have 6 email accounts and I spend about an hour every morning just going through them. It drives me crazy!

I hear you. I have my gmail forwarded to my yahoo.com so I only have to check yahoo. I have my main mail to .mac and I have a sub account there to show off my graphic and photography name. I am not sure what to advise but less is better in the case.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

I drop a leave a response whenever I like a post on a website or I have something to contribute to the discussion. It’s triggered by the fire displayed in the article I browsed. And on this post I Need Help! | ohamanda.com. I was actually moved enough to create a thought 😛 I do have some questions for you if it’s okay. Is it just me or does it look like a few of the responses appear like they are left by brain dead individuals? 😛 And, if you are posting on other online sites, I would like to keep up with everything fresh you have to post. Could you make a list every one of all your public sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
