I call my parents Mama & Daddy. I’ve always called them that. I never graduated to Mom & Dad or Mother & Father. My brother is 28 (in a couple of days) and he calls my parents Mama & Daddy. (The only other people I know who do this are…uhm…well, when they say it, it sounds more like, “Mommah and Diddy.”)
It’s interesting because BOTH my parents call their parents Mama & Daddy, too. Obviously that’s why we do it, but the interesting thing is that my mom is from Minnesota and my dad is from Georgia. You’d think being from opposite sides of the country, they’d just do it differently.
Anyway, when Lydia was born, I wanted her to call me Mama. But every time I said it, it just sounded like MY mom. So, we did Mommy–sweet and cutesy, just like my little girl. I like being a “Mommy”.
But like everything else in this new two-year old land, she’s switching it up. She has begun experimenting with new names. She has called me Mama for about 3 days and yesterday suddenly started calling me Mom.
MOM.
I am not ready for MOM.
“Mom” evokes the eye-rolling teenager that yells, “M-oooo-oooom!” while slamming her bedroom door. My 2 year old MUST revert to Mommy or Mama as soon as possible. I’m feeling positively ancient!
What do you call your parents? What do your kids call you? What do your parents call their parents? I’m interested in knowing if it’s different in different places or from generation to generation.

I’m sure at some point my parents were Mommy and Daddy, but they are Mom and Dad to this day. Can’t remember when I started calling them that.
But the real reason I am posting a comment….
I made it to the Pie Hole at Downtown Disney. They were almost out of stuff, but I did manage to snag two magnets, one for you and one for me. E-mail me your address and I’ll mail it off to you.

My Mom is Mom & has been for as long as I can remember. My girls call me Mommy, but for the last week or so, Olivia has been calling me Mama. I have no idea why, since no one around here says it. My Mom called her parents Mom & Dad, as well.

I called mine Mommy and Daddy as a little one, then Mama and Daddy when I was elementary school-aged (except for a short time when I wanted to call them “Ma & Pa” because that’s what Laura called her parents on Little House on the Prarie). In high school and beyond, I started calling them Mom and Dad (not in a sarcastic way), but I still revert back sometimes.

I still remember the first time Ella called me “mom” and I wanted to yell “NOOOO!” My girls have called me lots of different things. Mama is common and has been the most long lasting (of their own accord, too, I didn’t call myself that). Mommia is also common. I do get mom a lot now from my 5 year old. It just makes them sound so grown up, especially when the eye-rolling accompanies it (which it does already).

My parents are just Mom & Dad. I think when I was younger my Mom may have been MaMa. Shiloh calls me Mom, but he’s busted out with Mother pretty recently. When he calls me Mother I call him Son. Abigail calls me Mommy or MiMi. I don’t know where she got MiMi from but I do respond to it b/c I think it’s cute. Has Lydia tried calling you by your first name yet? That’s a fun phase to get them out of…NOT! 🙂

Oh, I totally relate to this one. My heart broke the first time Olivia called me “Mama” or “Mom.” I said, “My name is Mommy.” Now she calls me Mommy when she’s being sweet or wants something. She calls me M-oooo-oooom when I’m not paying attention to her. She’s also reverted to Dad sometimes, too, so I try to not take it personally. But it is shocking the first time or two!

I know I called my parents Mommy and Daddy when I was really little. At one point or another as I was getting older I switched to Mom and Dad. I believe both of my parents called their parents Mom and Dad – or at least they did all of my life.
My oldest son (just 5) called me Mama at first and now uses Mommy more often. My little guy (16 months) started off with Mom. It was quite alarming to me and I had no clue where it came from. Now he calls me Mama, so I am relieved.

When Mae was a baby and starting to talk, we had her calls us Mama and Papa. But then it we changed it to Daddy instead of Papa since it sounded more like a grandpa name and plus we didn’t want her to be too different from her peers. Now of course the kids call us Mom and Dad, unless they’re being especially cute, then we become Mommy and Daddy again. *sigh*

Isn’t that freaky? Elias has been changing it up for a while – he’ll call me Mama most of the time, Mommy some of the time, and Mom when he’s being serious. Most of the time he calls Josh Daddy, but he pulls the Dad card out more often for him.
I’ve always call my parents Mom and Dad. I went through a phase in elementary school when I wanted to call Mom “Mama” like all my friends did – but my parents are from NY, and Dad always hated it when we picked up southern accents or used words he considered “southern.” So I got yelled at for saying Mama. yup.

My baby (18 mo.) doesn’t call me anything coherent just yet. Madeline called me “mama” this morning, but she’s been known to call me “mommy” AND “mom,” depending on how old she thinks she is at the time (she’s 3).
Drew (4 1/2) has ‘graduated,’ as you put it, to “mom.” He thinks he’s at least 15.

I say Daddy too. Even when I’m talking about him I’ll say Daddy. Like, “Well, I was talking to Daddy yesterday and he said…” People think it’s weird that I still call him Daddy when I’m talking to him.

My 2 yr old is doing the exact same thing and I feel the exact same way!
I’ve told my 11 & 7 yr. olds that they have to call me mommy anytime they’re around me. I refuse to lose Mommy at 2!

Mine are Mama and Daddy (but I say it like “Deddy”– what do you expect I haven’t made it out of Alabama very much!)
Woggie started out calling me Mama, then it was Mommy. He’s gone back and forth some since. But “Mom”… couldn’t handle it!

My parents are Mama and Daddy. I’m Mama if the girls are both in a good mood. If it’s hateful time then I’m Mom and if they are wanting something or just being real silly then I’m Mommeeee. OH and Lil Man calls me Nanneeeee

Jack did the switch, too. I hated it. Luckily, to Ava I am still Mama. I want to keep it like that. I still call my mom Mama, too!

I call my parents “Mum” and “Daddy”, and my Caterpillars call me “Mum” or “Mama” depending on their moods. 🙂

LOL! Aiden occasionally calls me Mom – and I look at him like really? 2 or 12… ?! He will walk in the room and say – hey mom! UGh, no no no … thank you – you are still a baby – you must stop it. You are growing up way way way too fast. But for the most part it is mommy, or mama…
I call my ‘rents – Mom and dad. It was Mommy and Daddy till I was I don’t know how old. When I don’t feel well – it is right back to “Mommy”…. 🙂

This is too funny b/c when we were in Disney she started calling me MOM and Derek, D, which what I call him!

I said Mom mostly, but it took me a long time to go from Daddy to Dad. I’d like to be Mama, but I don’t know if it will stick. I think my son is British because he’s been calling me Mum.

My two-year-old (almost three) did this just the other day! My heart fell a little too, I guess it’s just the natural order of things.

you know this was one of the reasons we came up with for being “twins”! mama is still mama and daddy is still daddy. me and april are the only kids out of all of us to still do it. and i have to say i was devastated the first time annabelle called me “mom”. i guess i am okay with it now……she doesn’t seem to like mama too much. and um, how funny is that comment from the girl who called her parents “ma” and “pa”….i love it!

As being Norwegian I call my parents ‘Mamma’ and ‘Pappa’!
All people from Norway says either ‘Mamma’ or ‘Mor’ to their mom,
whil it’s either ‘Pappa’ or ‘Far’ to their dad.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
