Waaaay back in 2005, I started a blog. I didn’t start it to share my wit with the world. Or to practice my writing skills, or to even keep up with my family. I started it because I bought some furniture. Yes, my first antique furniture.
Our pseudo-parents in Bham called us and said, “There’s an estate sale you have to go to RIGHT NOW.” We drove over and found the best deal of the century. A beautiful table, 6 chairs, china cabinet and buffet for $1000. Oh my! And for some reason, this encouraged me to blog. Here’s that amazing post. (Did you click over there? Please do. I’ll wait…) Isn’t it gorgeous? I am in love with that furniture! And right now it’s collecting dust in our house in Birmingham! Please, oh, please! Someone buy our house!
Where was I? Oh yeah, my first post. Soon, I got my new MacBook and I started blogging on iWeb. Considering I never published it because I didn’t want to pay the 100 bucks for a .mac account, I guess you could call it journaling. But here’s that first post:
We are at the in-laws this week. <insert knowing glance> It’s been good because they haven’t seen Lydia in awhile.
So, I’m sitting in the guest room in the basement and Lydia is in the other room. She is in her pack-n-play for her first nap. Last night she slept for 13 hours, then she was only awake for an hour and a half before she started getting sleepy. My dh & my fil are upstairs tearing up the carpet in the master bedroom. And Lydia is sleeping right through it. She’s the amazing sleeping baby!
I was afraid she wouldn’t fall right to sleep because of all the noise, so I stood at the door for a few minutes, then opened the door to check on her. There she is bundled up in her one-piece pajamas, her little fleece blanket, with her thumb in her mouth and she’s an absolute dream!
My heart just expanded or squeezed or whatever your heart does when it feels love. I look at her and feel pride, responsibility and fear. I feel so protective of her every move. I’m jealous for her time, love and devotion. I guess this is love. It’s the most inexplicable feeling there is.
All those people that said, “You won’t understand till you have a baby” were right. I didn’t understand love until she was born. The amazing part is my love for her grows more everyday. If my heart keeps growing like this, I’m afraid it might burst by the time she’s 5!
Oh, that was pretty good! I haven’t read that in awhile. I liked it! I only posted about 15 times on there before opening up this blog–a new and improved blog and most importantly connected to the world wide web! It’s only been a little over 3 months since I posted that first post. (can you use “post” twice in one sentence?) So, if you’re bored, you could start at this first post and read all the way up till today! (Seriously, if you do that, please let me know!) Anyway, if you’re too lazy to click, here’s that post:
I’ve been dying to be a blogger for a while now. I just wanted to make a real start of it. You know how dieters say, “I’ll start on Monday.”? Well, that’s me. I wanted to start when we moved from Birmingham to Atlanta. Then we had to stay with family for a few weeks. So, I said, “I’ll start when we get in our house.” Then we didn’t have internet. “I’ll start when we get internet.” I’m bootlegging a very fickle wireless connection right now so I’ve been putting off my first post thinking, “I’ll start when our internet is up and running.” Now, I can’t stand it, I have to start.
So, I’ve been snooping around other blogs to see what I should write about. I love the sahm blogs—proving that stay-at-home-mamas really do have a brain. I like the crafty sites…although I could never ever, even with instructions do the stuff they do. I like the look-at-this-weird-thing-i-found-online blogs. But I don’t want to be a copy cat.
There seems to be a blog “style”. It’s like it’s a quickly thrown together little journal entry that’s witty, transparent, thought-provoking while being a little sarcastic. So I wonder if the good bloggers spend an hour crafting a 3 paragraph entry or do they really just sit down, type and publish?
All this leads me nowhere. I’ve got the baby brag blog for my family because my daughter is the cutest thing ever. But I’ve got to get in on this blog ‘thing’. Have you ever seen someone on TV or at a concert and thought, “We would totally be friends.” And it’s kinda sad because you know you’re missing out on a great relationship? That’s how I feel about blogging! I know I would be so into it. I know I could become addicted. So, what am I doing? What is this? A blog about a blog. Sheesh.
Well, this is not what I expected for my first blog entry. I thought I could be as entertaining as other blogs. That remains to be seen…
So…whadd’ya think? Three first posts! If you’d like to see why other people got into blogging and read their first posts, hop on over to Annie’s.

Congrats on your blogging accomplishments! You crack me up! You can email me the response to this question if you want – Where is the Organic farm you mentioned on Stephanie’s blog?
A little meaningless trivia – I found your blog via Stephanie’s blog. I found her via Glass Half Full and I think I found GHF via CWO blogs by pressing the random button. Then to find out you were here not too long ago! Isn’t it funny how small this world is!
Glad I found you – you provide a refreshing break for my Mommy world.

You’re right, that furniture is beautiful! What a find and what a neat reason to begin blogging :o)…
I agree with you, people truly have different blogging styles. I am pretty much the type it and don’t look back type of blogger and I’m sure it shows, but that’s okay… that’s my style. I love blogging, I love the friends I have met on the world wide of web. So much fun it is addictive. My family is even starting to give me a hard time. (they tease me so!) Anyway, I loved reading your first posts and will be back for more later. Thanks for participating in TTT!

That was fun! I doubt my first posts were as entertaining a read as yours! So, how do you produce your posts anyway? Do you type and post or does it take much time and thought out wit? I enjoy your blog no matter your style! Thanks for adding a little smile and entertainment to my days! 🙂

I’m glad you joined TTT!! And that furniture is just gorgeous! What is it still doing back in B’ham? Are you selling it, too? ‘Cause I might know a buyer. ;)Ahem, for the furniture, not the house….sorry. 🙂

That furniture is lovely! I think each blogger does have a personal style that emerges after a while.

very true about style! 🙂
I didn’t know you were a mac-ie? 🙂 Me, too!!!! I’m in love with my macs 🙂
I begun my blogging at yahoo 360. I also am a sucker and have a mac account. It’s worth it for me because I then have access to idisk and can transfer photos from one puter to the other easily 🙂
Very cute posts, Amanda!
