I’ve seen so many lists and posts about free sites, digital magazines, downloads and live streams to help kids while they are quarantined at home during this COVID-19 pandemic.
I am in love with every one of them. I’ve seen free dance classes, puppet shows and even quilling classes!
I have compiled a list of Bible-centered apps, websites, downloads and live streams. Some are sites I already use and love, others are something newly developed for this time.
I will updating this list as the days go by.
Church-at-Home Lessons
–Minno has “church at home” where you can pick out a worship video, devotional and Bible story for free! See their post, How To Have Church as a Family.
–Seeds Family Worship has “live devotions”, Bible memory & music videos for your use. You can see them explain it here. And they will be doing Facebook LIVE Children’s Services every Sunday night through April.
–Sign up for Bible Project’s weekly email to receive videos, discussion questions and more to have your own church-at-home with your family! Perfect for families with older kids. (Bible Project is a must-have resource, anyway!)
–Orange Kids has put tons of their awesome resources online. Great for churches to distribute to their people. Or look thru it and use what you can as a family. (I’m kinda lovin’ the printable placemat, myself.)
–Group Publishing (who you’ll know from a local VBS, probably) has FREE Downloadable Video Lessons: Empowering Courageous Kids: Explore How Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through.
–There are many many local churches distributing content for their families. Check them out: Life Church, North Point, Restoration Church, Church on the Move, Saddleback Kids
–Allstars Kids Club has lots of video content including worship song lyric videos, online kids’ church and more.
Hands-on Family Devotions or
Sunday School-type Lessons
–Answers in Genesis has several live streams daily with Science experiments and more!
–Wycliffe Bible Translators has TONS of free resources–everything from prayer prompts, crafts and recipes.
–Compassion International has some free homeschool lessons about topics like worry, health, love, etc. Plus, lots of other fun activities–we already downloaded some really cute paper dolls, too!
–Tyndale Publishers has discussion guides for some of their middle grade books, Larger than Life Lara and Hunger Winter . Perfect for a homeschool addition or a virtual reading club for your big kids!
-Don’t forget to check out the free Family Devotions here on ohAmanda.com
Radio/TV/Movies
These are perfect for God-centered entertainment and great conversation starters. As you watch or listen with your kids, notice the Scriptures used. When the show or movie is over, read the verse together, write it down and display it so you can continue to meditate on it.
–Adventures in Odyssey Club (with access to 800+ episodes) has a 4 week free trial with no credit card required! (We could not live without access to this club! See my full review.)
-Phil Vischer (creator of Veggie Tales) has all his own shows available to stream on Mr.Phil TV. This includes What’s in the Bible? which is absolutely essential watching--in fact, my suggestion is to watch one episode during lunchtime each day. You’ll get good understanding of the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Use code GOINGCRAZY to get an additional month free after the initial 2 week trial!
-Church on the Move is streaming THE GOSPEL BILL SHOW from 8am-12pm every Saturday. Ohmyword. You guys if you are a Christian kid from the 80’s you will be excited about this!
–Focus@Home is a streaming site from Focus on the Family. Includes all their content including Radio Theatre (these are SO GOOD), audiobooks, old TV shows like Last Chance Detectives and McGee and Me, storytime with famous voice actors and even feature films. Content will be updated frequently. This is a treasure trove!
Note: They have several of the aforementioned Adventures in Odyssey here, too–as I looked through them, I recognized that most of them are about worry or fear or other emotions our kids may be having now. It’s obvious they hand-selected them, so please give them a listen!
-Watch the animated Pilgrim’s Progress for free! (We watched this and it is cool although a bit long. If you are a Pilgrim’s Progress fan, though, I think you will really like it.)
-Check out my Family Discussion Guides for all the movies you’re probably already watching on Disney+ and Netflix!
Storytimes
–Sally Lloyd Jones, author of the Jesus Storybook Bible is doing “Storytime with Sally” on her Instagram.
–Andrew Peterson is reading the first of his Wingfeather Saga series nightly on Facebook–one chapter a night till it’s done! (These are all reposted to watch at your leisure.)
–Mercy House Global has a fun story time every Tuesday and Thursday at 4pm AND art classes!
–Tyndale Publishers has several virtual storytimes on their website.
For Girls Only
-True Girl’s weekly online Mom-Daughter Bible study for tweens (8-12yo) begins Monday, March 23. (This one costs money because you get a book! And even though it’s already started you can watch the archived streams.)
–For Girls Like You made their latest magazine edition digital for you! (for tween girls)
MISCELLANEOUS
–Holy Yoga has free kids’ classes on Wednesdays.
–Dwell, an amazing Bible listening app has free access for churches (if you are a church leader, click to see how your church can access Dwell for free! available till June 8)
I’ll be updating this as we go! Also, all of this was current and available when I posted it. If it’s changed, well, they are still awesome organizations/companies/ministries and worth your time and money!
