My kids are on tablets and devices more than I would like. But it’s the way of our world now. So, as my parents taught me, I want to give my kids SUPER COOL alternatives to the junk that’s out there. Here are some of my family’s favorite digital products and subscriptions. These are screen-times you can feel good about!
Minno
This is basically Netflix for kids’ shows. But not just any kids’ shows—these shows are carefully curated shows with Bible-based values and Christ-centered messages. I’ve written before about some of our favorite shows on Minno (formerly JellyTelly). My kids still love to watch it and I love that I don’t have to wonder or worry about what they’re viewing!
They also have lots of great 5 minute devotionals and “church at home” options. It is really a great tool for parents.
Plus, it’s only $6.99 a month. And this season, you can get your first month for 99 cents.
Perfect for preschool and elementary kids.
Adventures in Odyssey Club
This is our most used digital product! With a monthly subscription of $9.99 you get access to over 800 Adventures in Odyssey audio dramas, a subscription to Clubhouse Magazine and fun extras throughout the year like videos, special audio books and more.
Our whole family loves Odyssey so much–it’s an amazing and fun way to keep God-centered conversations in your home and give your kids great fictional heroes of the faith!
Perfect for kids 8-12.
Audiobooks
I know, audiobooks are nothing new. I love to order them from the library all the time. Recently, I discovered our library app where I can download them to my phone or computer! However, finding them online for a good price isn’t too hard!
First of all, there is always a deal for Audible Membership. (Right now, the deal is $4.95/month for the first 6 months!)
Secondly, you do not need a subscription to Audible to listen to their audiobooks. Simply download the app to enjoy several free books, original audios and then, look for free and cheap audiobooks to download!
Just as ebooks go on sale, audiobooks will do the same. Especially if you’ve already bought the book, they will sometimes deeply discount the audiobook for you. Last year, I bought an audio book for $7.49 (regularly $19.99) because I’d already bought the ebook FOR $1.99!! Score!
Annd, don’t forget, ChristianAudio has monthly free audiobooks. And twice a year, a $7.49 sale on EVERYTHING. (It’s happening now until 12/23!)
Here’s a few of our favorite audiobooks: Little House on the Prairie series read by Cherry Jones, Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan (my absolute fave!), and Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. And if you need a Christmas book, ChristianAudio has Jotham’s Journey on sale!
Make a fun little gift certificate, wrap it up with a pair of headphones and you’ve got hours of entertainment and a happy kiddo!
