I’m feeling kinda old-school-fill-in-the-email-and-then-email-it-to-four-more-friends kinda thing today. So, here are my…
TOP TEN FIRSTS!
{sorry, I just couldn’t think of a great new title for that one…}
1. First Car
My 1989 red CRX. I loved that little thing. It looked like a micro-machine. Sadly I totaled it in college. {Didn’t I just tell you that story?}
2. First Boyfriend
Steve. He lived in Michigan. I’m facebook friends with his mom.
3. First Job
Real Job? Bridal Shoe Salon
Paid Under the Table Job? Roadside Clown
4. First Time Out of the Country
I was 10 minutes from Canada in 6th grade but never ventured into the frozen tundra. Then in High School I went to Guayaquil, Ecuador for a missions trip with my sisterchick Kristen.
5. First Thing I Do In The Morning
Look at the clock. Then groan and say, “SERIOUSLY?”
6. First Time Online
I don’t remember the exact first time I got online but I do remember the first time I went in a chatroom. It was IM-ing on AOL. I met this guy (at least I think it was a guy) and we would have a private chat going on and then I’d say publicly, “Any hot guys in here?” Then fifteen guys would pop up to private chat me. Then I’d give MY guy their screen name and he’d bully them via private message them telling them to back off me, etc.
I guess we thought that was funny. I was 17. What can I say?
7. First Online Person I Met In Real Life
Wendy. And some of my doodlemamas. xo.
8. First Tragedy I Remember
I don’t know if this is a tragedy but I remember when my aunt got divorced. And I had never heard of divorce before. I thought it was something newfangled that she was doing. I was probably 5 or 6 years old. I don’t know if that makes me happy that I never heard of divorce or sad that I can remember it.
9. First Grade Teacher
Mrs. Weinberg. I loved her. She put me in the blue reading group. I wanted to be in the red.
10. First Top Ten Tuesday
Top Ten Steps To Getting Your Baby To Sleep. {Oh, that was a good one! Definitely worth a reread.}
See. This is why you read my blog. I am SO informative. But hey—if you’re really stuck on your list you can copy mine! Or even better—-I’d love to see your answers to these same FIRSTS in the comments!

OK! That’s it! Let’s see your Top Ten! It can be as simplistically amazing as mine (heh) or as long and detailed as you’d like it to be. Just WRITE it on your blog. Then LINK back to me somewhere in the post (you can use my button or just a text link, I don’t mind) so others can play along. Finally, come back and PASTE your url in the linky below. I **like** your Top Ten this week! It’s fun and reminds me of blogging five years ago :). Hmmmm, if I remember later this week, I might even pick it up and do the same thing! Great ideas for “firsts” :).
oh amanda says
It *is* so five years ago. Randomness. I miss random sometimes.
Honored you linked up, Miss Robin!

That is so funny. My first grade teacher was Mrs. Weinberg too! 🙂 She paddled me. 🙁
oh amanda says
Very weird! Paddled! Wow. You couldn’t do that today, huh?
Wendy says
Sweet! That is MY first Top Ten post, I do believe!
We REALLY need to take a new “Now” photo, though…that’s just sad. xoxo
Julie Anne says
My brain was fried… and I couldn’t come up with the brain power to make a Top Ten post this week! If I hadn’t already done my Sweet Shot Tuesday post, I might have copied your idea… maybe another week!! 🙂
Angie @ Many Little Blessings says
Excellent top ten post this week! If I hadn’t already written up one, I might have used it too. 🙂
Wendy Hagen says
You were a roadside clown. Really? What is that? You stood on the side of the road dressed as a clown and waved?
Tell me you have photos.
oh amanda says
That’s exactly right. Oh, I hope I don’t have photos…I’ll have to think about that. 🙂
Jenilee says
I remember getting online at the school library. there were about 20 of those huge grey computers and we all had to take turns checking our email. so funny!
NCSue says

Sarah says
A roadside clown? That is awesome. My first under the table job was filling vending machines. The pay was awful, but I was only 13 and got to take home as much candy as I wanted. So it evened out. 🙂
oh amanda says
Whoa. That is like a 13 year old’s dream job! (I dunno, maybe mine, too!)
Leslie, the Home Maker says
Still friends with Steve’s mom?!
Had to laugh! My mom is the caretaker of my grandmother, her ex-mother-in-love, mother of my father, Steve.
My mom won’t talk to Steve (his real name), unless she has to (he is a mess, what else can I say?), but loves my Gram, Lorraine! 🙂
This is my first attendance of a Top 10 Party!
So happy to be here, and I wish I’d known some tips to get my babies to sleep when they were little. Heck, I wish I knew some tips on how to get them to sleep now! They are now 20 and 16 (ugh! When did that happen?)
(Maybe I’ll write a post?! That is, if I knew anything about it).
Blessings and joy and peace to you today as you make your home!
~Leslie
oh amanda says
Wow! Your mom is a saint, then! 🙂
So glad you linked up to TTT!
Stacey says
How fun Amanda! Like a MadLib only funner… 🙂
The Messy Mom says
Loved this list, especially #3, I think we all have first real job and first paid under the table job. The first time I heard of the internet was from your brother (seriously). I was probably 12 and I was listening in on a conversation he was having with Brandon and he said something like “So what do you think about this whole internet thing?” It’s crazy to look back on now, who knew how much it would change our entire lives!
oh amanda says
Natalie, what’s funny about that is that I can HEAR Jason saying that! And now, look at us–the internet brought us together again! *happy sigh*
Anne says
This must have been fun to write! Love that you’re facebook friends with your first boyfriend’s mom. Really sweet.
I’m gonna go read those sleep tips now!
oh amanda says
She’s a sweet lady, what can I say? 🙂
Chelsey says
Ok, love your “first thing you do in the morning”! Exactly what happens here, except that most of the times I’m looking at a child that has woken me up and saying seriously??? Except that I get answered back, “yes mom, seriously… now get up!”. Sigh.
oh amanda says
LOL. Totally! My son says, “Mommy, are we getting up now?” OR “I’m hungry!” 🙂
Betsy (Eco-novice) says
If I had a personal blog, I would definitely consider copying this list. This was a fun read. And guess what? My father-in-law was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. My husband was born in Quito.
oh amanda says
Well, you could do “first time I ever used a cloth napkin” or something like that. KIDDING. 😉
How random is that about your fil and husband?! How did you guys get together then? Is their family from Ecuador? Or were they there for another reason?
Betsy (Eco-novice) says
FIL from Ecuador, MIL from Colombia. They are South American. I met my husband in LA. It is not so very crazy that I married a South American immigrant, since I lived in So Cal for over a decade. What is random is that YOU, Southern girl, were in Guayaquil.
Miranda says
I wish I could say my hubby was my first boyfriend but I can’t … but he was my second and I was his first ever girlfriend! {Granted, we got married at 18 & 20, so only 3 years of dating}. I loved your top ten this week 🙂 – thanks again for the linky.
oh amanda says
Thanks for linking up! I was 21 when I got married–we dated for 3 years, too! Actually, that seemed like a looooong time!
Randi says
1. First Car
My parents had bought a new Nissan Sentra, they tried to get me to take my Grandma’s old car, I refused to drive anywhere in that, so they gave me the Sentra, did you see how I worked that out ?! They’d rather have me driving than not driving, hehe.
2. First Boyfriend
I was not allowed to date till 16, well I was 14 when I met my 17 year old boyfriend… once again do you see a pattern with how I got my way with my parents ?! They weren’t a fan of him because we were young and ‘in love’ and ‘serious’ (promise ring serious, WHOA! – they actually made me give back the promise ring, and then he gave it back to me a week later, I just didn’t wear it in front of them). We actually dated for about 3 years and then on and off for another 3 years. He held out hope for me till I was 24, and told him I was getting married.
3. First Job
Real Job? The local used book store, I’ve always been a book-lover.
Paid Under the Table Job? Babysitting for the 5th grade teacher. I think back now and I’m like WOW my 5th grade teacher really trusted me a 10 year old to babysit her daughter ? I was a mature 10, obviously LOL
oh amanda says
How funny! The promise ring made me laugh out loud! 🙂
Thanks for sharing your FIRSTS!
ICStarzz says
Loved reading this! 😀
It’s cool because it made me think back to some of my firsts too.
The first time I went online & into a chat room was when I was 16. I met a guy 3 years older than me from North Carolina and we started talking a lot and we did the “online dating” thing for 2 years until he decided to move up here. He stayed up here with me for about a year and then because it’s so expensive up here, we moved back to NC for a while. There were some issues and it didn’t work out, but that’s how I met my hunni now. And it will be 5 years in September. <3 It's funny how things can happen for a reason. 🙂
oh amanda says
Isn’t that funny? Online relationships are FOR REAL! 🙂
Tara says
I’m totally going to use this for next week. I love the idea of firsts!
Have I told you how much I love Top Ten Tuesday??
oh amanda says
Awww, thanks! I’m glad you like it. I do, too! You guys stun me w/you awesome lists!
Janet says
Great list! I loved those CRX’s. Wanted one so badly.
oh amanda says
I loved that little micro-machine.
Rachel {the science of music} says
My first time out of the country (first two times, actually) were to Ecuador. My aunt and uncle were missionaries there. The first time, I was in first grade. We flew in to Guyaquil and then rode in a very old, almost falling apart van to the city where they lived. I think we even had a breakdown. I remember sitting for hours at a gas station with goats roaming around. It was also the trip in which I got my first really bad sunburn and my first taste of mango.
oh amanda says
How COOL! I also got my worst sunburn in Ecuador. You think in a place named ECUADOR I’d have remembered we were on the equator and put sunblock on. But no.
Rebekah from Simply Rebekah says
This is my first time linking up to your Top Ten Tuesdays! I’ve had a lot of fun reading other blogs today. Thanks!
PS. It sounds like we are saying the same thing in the morning. 😉
oh amanda says
Thanks so much for linking up! I’m honored! 🙂

Hey Amanda! Thanks for doing the Top Ten Tuesday link up. I’ve done it twice now. I love your 5th “first”; sometimes when my alarm goes off in the morning I look at it and think “You have GOT to be kidding! What joker set the clock last night?!? Oh yeah…that was me.”
Teresa Dahl says
I don’t remember much of my childhood, except for my first car. It was a Chevette. I remember it backfired all the time and scared my neighbors.

I had a Mrs. Weinberg also, at Keheley Elem. in Cobb County. I guess it’s a more common name than I thought
oh amanda says
What? That’s crazy!
obbergton says
Very interesting subject, regards for posting.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
