Creative Wedding Guest Books: Top Ten {Tuesday}

My sister-in-law is getting married in August. So this week we went wedding dress shopping (fun!) and bridesmaid dress shopping (not-so-fun). I’d rather do most of my wedding shopping while browsing the internet. So, in honor of my sister-in-law’s upcoming wedding (and a promise I made in 2009 that I’d write this post) here are

THE TOP TEN MOST CREATIVE & COOL WEDDING GUEST BOOKS EVER

1. Wooden Puzzle

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 11.14.37 AM

Have your guests sign a puzzle piece each, then put it back together, frame it and display. Or keep it un-put-together and let your first child slobber on it!

2. Sign a Chair.

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 11.14.57 AM

How great is this? A practical guest book you’ll actually use and see all the time. I wanna do this for something else–what if you had one at your house and let guests sign it when they came over for dinner or to spend the night?

3. Postcards

Screen Shot 2014-05-10 at 8.49.39 PM

Have guests write postcards and then have someone (your parents) mail them to you during your first year of marriage. This one below is especially fun because everyone got a personalized pen!

4. Individual Cards.

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 11.20.04 AM

This isn’t a new idea–let everyone write whatever they want (draw a picture, sign their names, make a wish, favorite scripture) but I love this whole stapled-together-make-a-book thing.

5. Fingerprint.

Screen Shot 2014-05-10 at 8.18.24 PM

This is my new favorite (and judging by the amount of these on etsy, I’m not the only one!). I love the playfulness of these plus the personal touch it brings. Everyone puts their fingerprint on the tree & signs their name on top!

Screen Shot 2014-05-10 at 8.51.07 PM

I think I love this car and balloons better. The only thing that would be cuter is if it was a house with balloons like Carl & Ellie’s house in UP.

Screen Shot 2014-05-10 at 8.51.49 PM

But this one? Is so cute I can’t stand it! (Whenever I throw an Art Party for Lydia, I’m going to use this as a guest book!)

6. Message in a Bottle.

Let everyone write a note on a slip of paper and then seal it in the bottle. Open it on your first wedding anniversary to see what they said!

7. A Birthday Calendar.

Screen Shot 2014-05-10 at 8.54.37 PM

I LOVE THIS ONE. What a sweet thing to keep you connected with your friends and family close to you all year!

8. Mad Lib.

Screen Shot 2014-05-10 at 8.52.38 PM

I changed my mind. THIS ONE is my new favorite. How fun in the world would this be?!

9. Typewriter.

Screen Shot 2014-05-10 at 8.53.15 PM

For book-lovers. And anyone else who misses typewriters.

10. The Rolodex Kinda Thing.

This is apparently pretty popular for weddings. Individual cards (sometimes with prompts like “You will name your first child…”) and then placed in a box like this. Cute, huh? And easy to replicate on your own.

So, what do you think? Wanna get married or what?!

If you like one of these ideas, please PLEASE visit the original pin or shop before pinning it yourself–I’d much prefer the original folks to get credit for it! If you wanna pin my whole post, feel free to use the graphic (and pin it button) at the top of the post! I totally love all of these! I think my favorite might be the thumbprint people. It makes me want to get married all over again!

You’re making me want to get married again! But shh, don’t tell my husband. lol We had a thumbprint tree from etsy and i LOVE it, but the Mad Libs are totes awesome!

Where were these creative ideas when I got married? He he. The wooden puzzle and the postcards are my favorites. These are so much better than the typical guestbook which I never opened again after my wedding (I think it’s in my basement or attic somewhere).

  4. Jenn says

    April 12, 2011 at 3:12 am

I love the thumbprints, too! That is so awesome, especially those that looked like men and women.

I love the jigsaw puzzle idea – if I could get married all over again …(sigh!)

These are all so awesome! I can see I’ll have a hard time deciding someday when I get married!

There are adorable. I cannot even begin to decide what is my favorite.

  9. Jen @ BigBinder says

I am laughing because when I was reading this, I thought, “Ooh! That is my favorite!” Then I would get to the next one and think exactly the same thing. I need to find someone who is getting married and butt in with these – they are fantastic!

  10. Anne says

    April 12, 2011 at 7:18 am

Those are all so adorable that it’s hard to pick a favorite! But I do love the ones with the fingerprints, and the mad libs. Wouldn’t those be fun to revisit yearly on your anniversary?

  11. Vanderbilt Wife says

    April 12, 2011 at 7:54 am

We used these as our wedding guestbook: http://www.guestbookstore.com/wedding.html

Only I think our pages were “predictions and advice.” It is so fun to go back and look through what people wrote! I couldn’t find whether they still had those pages. But the guests could draw a picture of themselves, say where they traveled from, etc, and then there were questions like “how many kids will the bride and groom have and what will their names be.” It also gave them something to do while they waited for us to take pictures. I think all of these do that, which is great!

Also, this is about the same comment I left in 2009. Ha.

The puzzle & the fingerprints? Ohhh… I wish I had seen those BEFORE I got married. LOL. I’ll just have to use it for something else.
It would have been a lovely idea for our baby shower as well – since it kind of doubled as a family reunion. Awe, darn!

  17. Stacey @ Tree, Root, and Twig says

    April 12, 2011 at 10:21 am

I’m bookmarking this because there’s a very real possibility I may be needing it for my oldest daughter in about three years from now. (which is a scary, scary thought!!!!) 😀

  18. Sarah says

    April 12, 2011 at 11:13 am

Those are all really cute! I especially like the one with the car and balloons. So cute and unique!

  19. Jodi at Tinkerella says

    April 12, 2011 at 12:32 pm

So many great ideas!!! Love every single one I do! These are wonderful for birthday’s and guests to your house too for sure. I let the kids sign my daughters closet door with colored markers for her 13th birthday party, they loved the graffiti kind of look to it and each got to express themselves. Of course it was a hit for years after when friends would visit.

  20. Angie @ Many Little Blessings says

    April 12, 2011 at 12:39 pm

What super cool ideas! And to think — I just have a white book somewhere. 😉

  21. Jennifer says

    April 12, 2011 at 1:33 pm

How cute! Sometimes I wish I could get married all over and use the cute ideas I’ve seen over the years. Sometimes.

  22. Becky Daye says

    April 12, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Love these! I shared with one of my friends who will be getting married in Sept.! I helped plan a wedding last April and the couple loved Jenga (the bride had given it as a gift to the grooms family when she met them prior to getting engaged), so we picked up a set of the generic block sets and the guests wrote on them.
I think it is the BEST when all aspects of the wedding reflect the personality of the couple. Thanks for sharing!

  23. Dani says

    April 12, 2011 at 5:17 pm

Such cute ideas! I’m thinking several (especially the thumb print ones) would be great for birthday parties, baby showers, graduations, anniversaries, etc. Thanks for sharing!

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! If those aren’t the absolute cutest ideas I don’t know what is! Saving these for later 🙂

Wow, these are such creative ideas! I like them all, but I think I really love the wooden puzzle idea and the thumbprint/fingerprint guestbook!

Thanks so much for hosting these Top Ten Tuesdays! While I’ve enjoyed others’ top ten posts in the past, this is my first time linking up!

  28. Tiffany @ No Ordinary Homestead says

    April 13, 2011 at 7:31 am

SO many fantastic ideas in there! Love the fingerprint people, the puzzle (SO cool but I’m a puzzle nerd), the calendar and the madlibs.
For my husband’s 30th, I played with the idea of people writing notes on plain coasters with colored pens…and personalizing white tiles to him. But I didn’t quite get around to it.

this looks great–I love how the pinterest pics embedded–that thumbprint tree is my favorite, I think. 🙂

  30. Sara @ Happy Brown House says

    April 16, 2011 at 12:38 am

I love all of these! So we had a large wedding plate that everyone was supposed to sign…it never got put in place and we got nothin’. Boo!

  31. Sara @ Happy Brown House says

    April 16, 2011 at 12:41 am

Ooooh, I had to come back and share a thought. What if you had a guest book for your child’s birthday parties and just kept adding to it over the years?!?

    • oh amanda says

      April 16, 2011 at 8:34 am

That would be COOL! I usually do a guest book at their parties (usually a book that goes with the theme of the party) but I love the idea of a forever guest book! For my nieces first few birthdays, my brother framed her invitation (which was a photo invite) and had everyone sign the mat. That was a really cute keepsake.

  32. Tracie says

    April 16, 2011 at 11:06 am

Amanda – I love this. Wish I were getting married soon so I could use one of them. The puzzle one might be cute for a baby shower too, huh? Got any fun ideas for a baby shower? Throwing one in May. Where would one buy the puzzle pieces?

  33. Rebekah from Simply Rebekah says

    April 16, 2011 at 10:33 pm

This makes me want to get married again!! I love it! For our wedding we took tiny polaroid photos of the guests, glued them onto index cards, had the guests sign their cards and then put them into an album. I like the idea of having photos of everyone, but some of the ideas you listed are just so stinkin’ cool!!! I want a do over!

  34. Wendy Hagen says

    April 18, 2011 at 2:08 am

I feel like I got married in the dark ages (13 years ago next month). There is so much creativity and cuteness and artsiness now days. Kids these days . . .
I got all the guests tattooed on my legs and I thought that was awesome, but compared to all this stuff . . .

  35. Miami Foreclosure Defence says

    April 29, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Oh wow! these are great ideas. my wedding is in august and i was going crazy with the guest book, i didn’t want anything traditional. i think i might do the puzzle.
    Thanks for the post

  36. Karyn says

    June 3, 2011 at 11:57 pm

These are incredible ideas! I’ve already passed them on to my cousin who is getting married this summer. I wish I’d have seen something like this when I got married!

  37. Julia says

Love these ideas! Here’s another one that my sister just used a few weeks ago! She got a photobooth for the guests to use and a scrapbook with stamps, and stickers and stuff. Two copies of each photo strip were printed and the guests could tape them into the scrapbook and write a message. It was a great, great hit!!

You can also do this with a Polaroid camera, which my sister’s friend did for her wedding!

    • oh amanda says

      July 1, 2011 at 8:31 am

Love that idea! I’ve seen those photobooths before. SO FUN!

  38. BeeJay says

    July 5, 2011 at 4:32 pm

I enjoyed seeing these, too. As much as I like the thumbprints, esp the booklet, who is going to want to get ink on their thumbs at a wedding reception? What is used? It would have to be permanent ink, wouldn’t it? Anyway, thanks for posting.

    • oh amanda says

      July 6, 2011 at 8:15 am

I think with a baby wipe set up next to it for everyone to grab, it would come right off!
