The letter “I” was an easy verse to choose. There are seven “I AM” sayings in the New Testament–seven phrases that Jesus begins with the words “I AM”. I love all these phrases and they tell us so much about who God is. This one from John 8:12 is especially appropriate for kids, I think. Jesus being the light is an easy object lesson for them. They know what it’s like to be in the dark alone, they know the brilliance of the summer sun and the warmth it gives. Jesus being the light? It’s a happy comforting verse.
And I think ICE CREAM goes along with it perfectly–well, at least in feel anyway. This was an easy craft but one I liked for shape recognition. I cut out three triangles and three circles. Lydia placed them together on her own, then decorated them with one of my most favorite craft supplies–random sticky craft foam pieces. I always always buy these when they are on sale 70% off after each holiday season.
I can’t remember what else we did with this activity. But if I was doing it today, I’d make ice cream in a bag, maybe a sun catcher or two and make up some dance moves to the song, Light of the World from Seeds of Faith!
