TJMaxx Spendervention (Part 1)

A few weeks ago the good people at TJMaxx and Marshalls asked if I would like to help them with their SPENDERVENTION push. They said they’d send me two giftcards to do a shopping experiment. UHM. Giftcard? TJMAXX? I’m there!

So, I decided to play a little game and have a contest with my husband. I gave him the Marshall’s giftcard and I took the TJMaxx giftcard. I told him he had to go shopping and buy something with his giftcard. I’d do the same. Then we’d compare and see who got the best deal.

Now, I’m all about TJMaxx. Don’t you remember their commercials from when we were kids (T-t-t-t-t-TJMaxx! The MAX for the minimum price! It’s never never the same place twice!)? I’ve snagged awesome deals at TJMaxx and Marshall’s. I think I’ve told you before my husband would rather go to one of these off-price retailers because you can get high quality clothing for the same price as going to Old Navy or Target.

TJMaxx is not an outlet–they don’t sell irregular stuff. They aren’t last-season’s cast-offs. They are opportunistic buyers that buy directly from the designers. They are on the prowl 40 weeks out of the year to find the best and biggest deals. And they pass it on to me us.

Now, let’s get back to my SPENDERVENTION. I had both kids with me. So. It’s very hard for me to shop for clothes. I just don’t have the patience to try on a pair of jeans with 2 kids hanging off me. So, I hit up some other departments: housewares and kids.

Would you like to see what I got for $25? (ok, I went over $25 a little…)

1. TOWELS. I couldn’t find these online to do an actual price comparison. BUT the Martha Stewart towels were $14 each. And even if these aren’t as nice as Martha’s (which I think they are…), the Kohl’s brand towels online were $6. These are waaaay cuter and are only THREE. And in case you were wondering these look perfect in Lydia’s hot pink bathroom.

2. TANK TOP. OK, so I found one thing for myself. I only have about 45 tank tops. But this one was too cute to pass up. Green with pink butterflies on it. The Guess tag is still on it and it says THIRTY-FOUR dollars. For a tank top. And I got it for $7. They are at least that at Target, don’t you think?

3. DVDs. This is the most random item of the day— Scholastic DVD Collection. I won a set of these from AlphaMom once and Lydia loves them. But when I saw this one with Chick Chicka Boom Boom on it, we had to get it! It was $13. At Amazon? $26. That’s half off, baby.

Scholastic DVDs $13

Scholastic DVDs $13

TOTAL SPENT: $29

TOTAL I WOULD HAVE SPENT IF I HAD SHOPPED RETAIL: $78-102

That is insane.

So, what do you think? Can my husband do better?

Well it is well documented that I love TJ Maxx. Those towels are da bomb(can I pull that off?). If your hubby shops like mine does you have totally won this bet 🙂

I belong to a gym that is right next door to Marshall’s and I can’t help myself. I am always there. My daughter (she’s 3) loves the shoe department; she is already obsessed with shoes but at least they are cute and inexpensive at Marshall’s. I love TJMaxx too but the nearest location is 20 minutes away so we don’t go there as often. I can’t wait to hear how your husband’s shopping trip goes.

I kind of have a lot of faith in Les (the man). He’s quite the shopper!

I LOVE TJ Maxx and Marshall’s and even Ross. I’m actually looking for some towels similar to that for the kids’ bathroom, so I might have to go scrounging around. Which one did you go to?

We have that Chicka Chicka Boom Boom video. You’ll never read the book the same way again. 😉 And you’ll also never pass a garbage truck without thinking, “Is the trash truck full yet? Noooo…. Dump it in. Smash it down. Drive around the trashy town!”

P.S. We got our video at Marshalls quite a few years ago…but it was only $6 or so…I think Les’s stock just went up a bit!

Awesome! I bigfatpuffyheart TJ Maxx! It takes every ounce of willpower I have not to spend all my time on their bowl aisle!

I love both. Marshall’s is closer to my apt. so I go there on a lazy Saturday or Sunday. I play games with myself to spend as little as possible. If I want a pair of trendy shoes, I make sure they are from there. I scored a silver strappy pair from TJ Maxx for only $20. Anywhere else would’ve been $50 and up.

With havin so much content do you ever run into any
problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My site
has a lot of unique content I’ve either written myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it
is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any techniques to help stop
content from being stolen? I’d certainly appreciate it.

Welcome!
