Moo & Snow

Today has been a day. *whew* We woke up to a house with NO heat. That is the worst feeling I can imagine. Unless of course, I had been put to bed soaking wet. Anyway, it was too cold to stay at home, so we took Lydia and our niece to a special event at a local church where we got to jump on those big inflatable games and meet Bob & Larry from Veggie Tales. It was pretty exciting to a 2 & 3 year old.

Then we ran a bunch of crazy errands and hung out at my parents until we could figure out the heat. When we finally got home the heat was randomly working and I’m praying it doesn’t decide to sleep again tonight.

But the purpose of this post (yes, there is one) is to show you what I got in the mail!

A beautiful purple sticker book full of my little Lydia’s 2nd year!

Is that the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?!

You can put any picture you want in your sticker book up to 90 different pictures/stickers and only $10 from my favorite, moo.com. Is that so cool?!

Oh, you’re wondering the point of stickers of yourself? Well, obviously you are not 1. a sticker lover 2. narcissistic. I am obviously both because I would LOVE some of these of myself. These were actually supposed to be part of the goody-bags at Lydia’s Snowflake Party. Everyone was going to get one sheet of Lydia stickers with their chocolate covered marshmallow. However, they were shipped 2 days after her birthday and we just got them today. So much for timing that one.

Regardless, these things are so yummy I want to eat them! If you came to Lydia’s party, expect a sheet of Lydia stickers in the mail! If not, well, go make some stickers for yourself!

How Could I Forget These?!s

Chocolate covered marshmallows rolled in sprinkles and/or rocky road crunchy stuff!!! This yumminess was in lieu of a goody bag.

I wanted them all to be rolled in the white sprinkles because it looked more snow-y. But they all turned out cute. And they were surprisingly delicious. I usually like my marshmallows burnt over a campfire, but I guess you just can’t go wrong dipped in chocolate!

When we made these, Lydia wanted to help so much. So we finally let her roll a marshmallow on a stick in some sprinkles (sans chocolate). She was having a ball. She kept saying, “I helping, Mommy!”

Well, I think that concludes the Snowflake Party! I can’t imagine eeking out any more information about it. Well, I probably could, but I’ll refrain…

Is it bad that food takes center stage at every event for me? I chronicle trips, holidays and dates by food! Well, let’s get right to chronicling The Snowflake Party food, shall we? I’m already regretting throwing & giving away all the leftovers…

The beverages…
Hot Chocolate. I wanted hot chocolate so I could make those beautiful snowflake marshmallows. So, Mama and I finally sit down to read the recipe and you need a candy thermometer, the ability to mix for 12 minutes straight and they have to cool OVERNIGHT. Well, we didn’t plan for that PLUS we could not find a snowflake cookie cutter in all of Atlanta, so the whole reason for my snowflake party got booted. *sigh* We still had hot chocolate with a few extras (whipped cream, candy canes and chocolate sprinkles) plus some chocolate milk for the kids.

Bottled Water. That’s all.

The Sweets…
Chocolate Fondue. Fondue is the easiest thing in the world. One little carton of heavy cream, half a stick of butter and 2 bags of chocolate chips. Melt and dip! We made white chocolate and milk chocolate, then poured it side by side into the fondue pot.

It didn’t end up looking as good as The Melting Pot, but it tasted just as good! I had marshmallows, oreos, pretzel rods, bananas, strawberries and…wait for it…OREO MARSHMALLOWS to dip.

Can you believe how yummy those look? I just scraped the creme out of the oreos, threw the cookies in the food processor while the marshmallows were soaking in water. Once my oreos were a fine powder, I rolled the marshmallows in it. Somebody said you could do the same with graham crackers. There’s a s’more for you! YUM.

(oh, one more thing about the fondue. I also had shredded coconut, chocolate sprinkles and chopped pecans for the 2nd dip. You know, dip your strawberry in chocolate and then roll it in chopped pecans. OH MY. OH MY.)

Snowballs. We formed ice cream into little balls, then rolled it in coconut, and put it back in the fridge. Easy and cute! Well, no one really saw how cute they were because we forgot to put them out. UGH. Now I have 15 of those silly things in my freezer!

Cupcakes. My sisterchick, Staci made the cupcakes. She’s a part-time cake baker/decorator and makes adorable cakes for weddings and showers. The big snowflake on top is white chocolate! Delish! Thanks again, Stace!

The Non-Sweets…
Pioneer Woman’s Bacon Wrapped Crackers. TO DIE FOR. (these also showed up at my sisterchick party, remember?)

Pinwheel Sandwiches. I hand made these from white flour tortillas and a spinach/artichoke cheese spread. They tasted yummy but looked yucky. I’d buy the frozen ones next time!

White Cheese Ball. I love me some cheese ball. We make a yummy cheddar/velveeta/cream cheese one at Christmas every year. And I could eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner. This white one is another old standard but I have only recently discovered how much I adore it! And for bloggy sake, Mama and I photo-journaled the cheese ball experience. Ready? Begin.

All you need is:

1 block of regular cream cheese (why get the low fat? let’s go for the gusto here!)
1 8oz container of sour cream
1/2 cup (or so) currants
1/2 cup (or so) dry roasted peanuts, chopped
1/2 cup (or so) green onions, sliced, diced or just plain old cut up
1 tsp (I am totally guessing at this) curry powder
shredded coconut (this is for later…)

Now, just blob it all together (except for the coconut).

It’s easiest to just get your hands right in it…

But wait! Before you do that, get a bowl that’s pretty round. None of those flat bottomed pasta bowls. Then put a little plastic wrap in it.

Then drop your round little cheese ball into the plastic wrapped bowl.

Now pull up the edges…

Twist…

Clip (or tie) and place in fridge.

When the big day comes, unwrap your perfectly formed cheese ball, roll in coconut, serve with crackers and look at what you get!

And there you have it—every single solitary thing we put into our mouths at Lydia’s Snowflake Birthday Party. (Well, maybe the kids put other things in their mouth, but I take no responsibility for that!)

You guys know I never share recipes…because I never have any to share. So, I guess I hit my quota for 2008! Don’t expect any more of this anytime soon. I just get kinda excited about a table full of appetizers. I think I hear my stomach growling…

(I just linked up with Scribbit’s Winter Bazaar. I’ve been wanting to join in for the past 2 months but didn’t have any great ideas. But a Snowflake Themed Party Food post? Well, it was perfect! So, for more fun wintery stuff head over Scribbit‘s!)

The Snowflake Party

January 7, 2008 birthday

I love to plan parties. I love planning the little details. I think that’s what makes the guest of honor feel special–when little details like the food and the napkins have been thought about. When my sisterchickies gave me a baby shower, everything was pink and green. EVERYTHING. First I felt humbled and loved because [...]
