Soirée Is a Fancy Word for Party

Have you read Fancy Nancy*? I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it–I mean, we’re pretty princess-ed out around here and just how many sequins can you have? But I picked it up at the bookstore and fell in love with it! It’s a sweet vocab book about the love of a family!

Today our library had a Fancy Nancy Soiree and Lydia was invited! She picked out her very own fancy outfit. The blue clippies are from a Dora the Explorer doll, the other clip is a snowflake and you can’t see it, but her left hand is holding an American flag. She was very specific about bringing the flag.

We arrived and walked into a room filled with fancy little girls. I tried not to giggle at all of them but I couldn’t help it–they were so cute and SO serious! The librarian (also dressed verrrry fancy) read the original Fancy Nancy* book and Fancy Nancy and the Boy from Paris *. Then we got to design our very own tiara and fancy glasses.

After a rousing rendition of F-A-N-C-Y (aka B-I-N-G-O), we set off on a Fancy Library Parade. And oh, was it fun! The girls waved to all the studious people in the library. (Who of course giggled and waved back.)

Asa, of course, was having none of it. He brought a brown and yellow moth toy AND wore his MONSTER PARTY shirt just to show how UNfancy he is.

KIDDING. He loved it. I had to pull him out of the librarian’s lap during story time AND extract several golden slippers and sequined tiaras from his mouth.
