Daddy Update!

by oh amanda on October 22, 2009

in prayer

god's word healing

Daddy is not on his HepC medication because he’s been so sick with pneumonia. He’s finally over the pneumonia but his white blood cell counts, red blood cell counts and platelets will NOT rise.

His infectious disease doctor (nice title) told Daddy to see his oncologist (because Daddy did chemo with him and this doctor understands the blood cell counts, etc.). His oncologist told him that he may not be able to take the HepC meds because the chemo burned out his bone marrow. BURNED OUT HIS BLOOD MARROW.

However, the oncologist also told him that he doesn’t know much about the HepC meds and it was really up to the infectious disease doc. The infectious disease doctor doesn’t seem to excited about putting him back on the HepC meds. He doesn’t think Daddy’s body can take it.

If he can’t return to the HepC meds there is NO alternative medication. His liver will continue to fail.

So, what’s next?

They are waiting another week or so (November 3rd, maybe? I can’t remember.) to see if his platelets/blood cell counts go up. If they don’t rise they will do a BONE MARROW BIOPSY. *shudder* Daddy said this is a heinous procedure. They literally drill into your bones. UGH.

Then? Who knows.

Here’s what we’re praying for:

1. Total. Healing.

2. Daddy’s platelets and blood cell counts would return to normal.

3. He can be put back on the HepC meds and finish them off without a hitch.

I know 2&3 seem totally different from 1. The point is—pray that he’s healed. By a miraculous miracle or miraculous medicine. Either one is fine with me.

I’ll close with some scriptures because I need to remind myself of the Truth. Not what I see…

“Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.” Psalm 107:19-21

“…I am the LORD, who heals you.” Exodus 15:26b

Thank you for praying!

Praying For Friends

by oh amanda on January 30, 2009

in friends,me,prayer

Yesterday I got sick to my stomach.

One of my sisterchicks (who shall remain nameless for now…until I ask her if she wants her name plastered on the world-wide-ohamanda) got some bad news at a doctor’s appointment. And I don’t know if my thirty-something-ness just hit me in the face at that point or what, but I felt so old. I’ve been friends with my sisterchicks since I was FOUR. That’s almost the same age as my Lydia. And even now as I’m typing I’ve got tears in my eyes because I love them so much.

I’m ready to do battle against this (alleged) diagnosis, but who would have thought when we were in 3rd grade and bouncing around the church van on the way to summer camp that this would be our future?

Then, when I got home, I got another email from my bbbf, Val. She has had some huge physical battles this year—full of questions and disappointments. She’s been diagnosed just these past few weeks with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Hypothyroidism AND Firbromyalgia. Are you kidding me?! She’s a young, vibrant mama!

But there’s even more—Val just found out she’s pregnant. Which is a miracle. An absolute miracle. But imagine what you’d be thinking if you were preggo with these new diseases plastered on your file. Yup. That’s exactly what Val is thinking, too.

So, I’ve got a few requests. First PRAY. Pray for healing. I believe it so strongly that God heals. I believe He desires good for us.  And I believe He acts when we pray.

Secondly, if you’ve got any experience with the above diseases please click over to Val’s blog and give her some encouragement. I know she’d love it.

I’ll be keeping you updated on both of my dear sweet friends as the weeks go on. Because if the internet is not one big giant prayer chain, I don’t know what is!

Chocolate & Prayers

by oh amanda on August 7, 2008

in blogging,me,motherhood,prayer

My friend Mandi (affectionately nicknamed “the other Mandi” because I accidently emailed her thinking she was my sisterchick, Mandi!) is doing something great for her kids this month. She’s praying for them. Well, yeah, we all do that. But she’s taken it a step further. She filled up a huge (and I mean, huge) container full of chocolate. Her fave. And she’s NOT going to eat it. She’s fasting from chocolate so she can pray for her kids.

A Radical Chocolate Fast

Cool, huh?

Well, as she’s fasting from chocolate she’s obviously taking a little bloggy time away, too. So, she asked me to write a post about praying for your kids. I was a little dumbfounded at first, but I think I got a good post out of it.

Would you click over to Mandi’s? After you read my post…stick around because she’s got lots of fun things going on, too—like last month was Christmas in July, she always shares great preschool crafts/time fillers, recipes and her kids are cute.

*Whew* If you think this post was long, just wait till you get over there!

Closing comment so you can chat with Mandi!

Remember Nate? (nate. from amber’s blog.) Remember how ticked I was at the devil? Remember the prayers that went up on his behalf? Well, God remembered too. And Nate’s test results came back yesterday… He does NOT have SMA. He does NOT have myotonic dystrophy. He does NOT have muscular dystrophy. It is a miracle! [...]
