menu plan monday

meal planning

source: perspicacious.org

I have issues with menu planning. It’s kind of like a love-hate relationships. I looooove when I do it, it makes my week go easier. It makes me less stressed at dinner time. But I hate planning it. I hate trying to find the recipes and making the grocery list.

Which is why I have loved doing the once-a-month-cooking from Once a Month Mom. She picks out the meals and the gives you the grocery list. The only problem is that I usually need a partner (and a kid-free day) to do it! So, I usually stand staring into my pantry at 5:00pm wondering if having eggs for the 3rd day in a row is a problem.

E-MEALZ EASY AND DELICIOUS DINNER RECIPES

At Blissdom I found out about E-MEALZ . Maybe you’ve heard of it? Well, Dave Ramsey is a fan. Yeah, like THE Dave Ramsey! It’s a simple idea–you pay $5 a month and pick a menu plan then print it along with complete recipes AND a shopping list. But wait! There’s more! The shopping list is based on the SALES of the store you shop at! You can pick from ALDI, Wal-Mart, Publix, Kroger or Ralphs (or “any store”). And if you are a coupon-er, you can do even better by adding your coupons to the mix!

from last week's menu: chicken, diced tomatoes & feta

I am shopping less and less at the grocery store so didn’t know if this would help me too much. I make all my own bread products (yeah, I do), I buy milk, meat and cheese from a farmer and am part of a vegetable share. Well, E-MEALZ thought of that, too. They have different menus to choose from–Regular Family  Meals, Regular Meals for Two, Gluten Free, Low Carb, Portion Control and Vegetarian! I picked the Portion Control and most of the food comes from the perimeter of the grocery store–not many cans or boxes! {See some sample menus–and look! an Easter menu!}

I’ve used E-MEALZ for two weeks and I really like it. I love that the menu and recipes are all on one page…I just printed it and taped it inside my pantry door so I can look at it quickly. I love that the meals are diverse–a soup, a casserole, a chicken dish, seafood, pizza, beef and pork all seem to come up evenly. I love the shopping list is easy to read and is also on one page.  You can see the adjustments I had to make on mine above—some food I bought from the farmer and other things I made from scratch. I love that the shopping list has prices on it–perfect for shopping on a budget.

So, this week, my E-MEALZ menu is:

Monday: Tandoori Chicken Strips with Corn on the Cob and a Green Salad

Tuesday: Mexican Pasta Skillet (which I’m gonna serve over baked potatoes instead of pasta) and a fruit salad

Wednesday: Grilled Tilapia and Mango Salsa with Grilled Sweet Potatoes {we don’t have a grill, so I’ll have to do this inside}

Thursday: Italian Chicken Wraps with Cranberry Slaw

Friday: Chicken Dijon with Wild Rice and Broccoli and Cheese

Saturday: Black Eyed Pea Soup, Cornbread Muffins and Sliced Strawberries

Sunday: I don’t cook on Sunday! (there was another meal, but I didn’t make it)

Now here’s the best part! Yesterday I cooked ALL OF THESE MEALS and put them in the freezer! All I have to do is pour stuff in the crockpot, throw it in the oven or piece it all together in a pan! I’m so excited! It was easy last week when I just followed the E-MEALZ menu plan every day, but now that I coupled it with freezer cooking? I am in LOVE!

I <3 Emealz

TIVO and FOOD

by oh amanda on May 5, 2008

in food,me,menu plan monday,recipes,tivo,tv

Remember my big lofty goal of planning my meals out for the week? Well, I think it’s been about 3 weeks since I even attempted it. And we’ve eaten frozen pizza, eggs, take-out, eggs and sandwiches almost every night since then. So, here’s my attempt at another menu plan. And in case you’re bored and want to know how completely pathetic I am, here’s my TV plan, too.

Monday:
Spagetthi Carbona. I like to call this Breakfast Pasta. YUM.
How I Met Your Mother. The show I probably shouldn’t watch but do. I can’t help it…I love Barney, even though I shouldn’t.

Tuesday:
Knock-off of Taziki‘s Greek Feast. I got to run by there when we were in Birmingham and took home a quart of their feta salad dressing. TO DIE FOR.
American Idol. Ho-hum. Not excited about our final 4. I just want to see what idiocy Paula can bring this week.

Wednesday:
Chicken Tacos
. Love this blog!
American Idol
again. Really, I just fast-forward to the last five minutes. It’s kinda boring.

Thursday:
Peking Pizza
. Never made this but I love every Rachael Ray pizza I’ve ever had, so hoping this one’s just as good!
LOST. Please, like you had to ask.

Friday:
Creamy Beef Over Noodles
. Seriously have you been here before?
Survivor. (Unless we watched it last night, which we probably did. Oh my.) How awesome was last week? Amanda should get an Academy Award for her performance. She and Parvati were just classic at Tribal Council.

Saturday: leftovers or eat out

Sunday:
Mother’s Day–eating with family &
SURVIVOR FINALE. Oh, oh, oh,who should the final four be? I think I want Parvati (altho’ she can’t win), Amanda (b/c of last week’s brilliance), Cirie (because she really has played well, altho’ she gets on my nerves) and…hmmm….Erik or Natalie? I don’t like either of them. Erik is like the freakiest fan ever. I would *never* act like him. Ahem. But Natalie. She’s kinda vicious. What do you think, Survivor fans?

Menu Plan Monday (Night)

by oh amanda on April 7, 2008

in food,menu plan monday,recipes

Apparently it defeats the purpose to post your menu plan at 6:35, when you’ve already eaten dinner on Monday, but whatever. At least I’m doing it. It really did help me last week. I actually *enjoyed* cooking this week. And how fun was it to have REAL leftovers to eat?! It’s sad when leftovers are fun and exciting. *sigh*

Let’s see, we begin kinda rough, but it gets better…

Monday: leftovers, eggs, fend for yourself, etc.

Tuesday: Annie’s Greek Tacos

Wednesday: Trader Joe’s Curry Simmer Sauce with Chicken & Jasmine Rice (I’m just going to pour the sauce and chicken in the crock pot)

Thursday: Venison French Dip Sandwiches (that was so yummy last week and we have a venison roast from Les’ bff, the Bambi-killer)

Friday: KT’s Enchiladas (This is a recipe from a friend on my messageboard. Everyone has tried them and just raves about them. Plus, it’s makes so much it’s easy to cook half and freeze half!)

Saturday: leftovers

Sunday: take out with Kdoggy Dogg after our n’hood Bible Study (what should we have, Kristen?)

I’ll probably also serve a salad and/or some veggies with all the “big” meals I’ll make.

(need more recipes? visit organizing junkie!)
