“Advent” it’s an old word that just means “the arrival of a notable person or thing”. So, you can have the advent of fall TV premieres or the advent of the first day of school. Generally, we use the word to talk about the 4 weeks leading up to Jesus’ birth. The Catholic church and other traditions have specific days and themes they focus on during this time. Others see it as a countdown calendar to the day of all the gifts!
However you’ve celebrated Advent in the past, I suggest using Advent to focus and celebrate Jesus’ arrival to earth!
Of course, my favorite Advent experience is found in my ebook, Truth in the Tinsel: an Advent Experience for Little Hands. With Truth in the Tinsel, you’ll lead your kids in making 24 (simple) ornaments that tell the true story of Christmas from the Bible. It’s an easy, meaningful way to introduce your kids to Jesus and help them meditate on His Word!
Truth in the Tinsel has become a tradition in thousands of homes around the world. You can check out our Facebook page to see how this simple ebook has been used by over 30,000 families!
Before Truth in the Tinsel was released, I also did a pretty cool advent-ure with the kids called, “Advent Activities” –each week included a craft, a movie, a book, a game, a service activity and more PLUS free printables. It was fun. You can see all those activities here:
Leigh, long-time contributor to the blog and all-around super mama did an amazing Advent devotion with her boys about the Names of God. You can see those here or by clicking the graphic below.
