A Sense of the Resurrection: An Easter Experience for Families

Easter is one of the most beautiful, happy days of the year. However, it easily gets swept up into church attendance, Easter baskets and pretty dresses. How do we make this super holy-day into a holiday that celebrates, focuses on and leads our kids to Jesus?

This is the same question I had when my kids were little bitty. As we discovered more of the great story of Jesus’ death and resurrection and as I tried to explain it to them in kid-friendly ways, we noticed how hands-on and gritty the story really is. There’s the smell of vinegar, the sound of roosters, the taste of broken bread and the color of a deep purple robe.

I began to lead my children in experiencing the story bit-by-bit using our five sense. We put together crafts, we tasted bread and made memorials in our house and memories during our days. And we started to get a sense of what the death and resurrection of Jesus must have been like.

  1. Amanda, what a great book! I cannot wait to go through each activity with my girls! The crafts look fun but not too involved. I ordered my book and the link came immediately. God has truly blessed you with a wonderful ability to write and to understand how to word things so children can comprehend!

  2. Would love to give this book a try – however, Amanda, is it too late to start now? Is there a way to “condense” it or do you think it’s still worth to get this book even though I won’t be able to finish all 12 activities? Thank you!!!

    • You can still do it! You can look thru and see which ones are just too “big” to do or combine 1 or 2 of the activities! Also, I really think the very last activity would be perfect to do the day AFTER Easter!

  3. Just wanted to say that we completed the Sense of the Resurrection book and my boys 1 and 3 LOVED it! They keep asking to make more flags and want me to tell them more stories about Jesus. Thanks for this great resource. Can’t wait to do Truth in the Tinsel for Christmas. I’ll have to start thinking of ideas to do with them between now and Christmas though. Thanks SO much!!!

  4. I just ordered my book! I cannot wait to use it with my preschoolers. Thank you so much!

  5. I am so thrilled about Sense of the Resurrection! We did Truth in the Tinsel for the first time this Christmas and when we ended my first thought was, I hope she has an Easter book! I need some help, though. I downloaded my book to laptop and ipad. On both devices the links don’t work. Some sound like they would be great to add to our activities (ie Child friendly seder) but there is nothing to click on. Thanks for your help!
