*keep reading, this is a giveaway!*
I told you about my new blog, Impress Your Kids. (It’s going swimmingly, thanks for asking. I got 30 whole hits yesterday!) The whole idea is that by using small everyday things you’d normally do, you can impress God’s Word on your kids. With a preschooler you can use crafts and music and of course, BOOKS!
I love finding new books that help me tell Lydia more about God. It just so happens that Random House sent me three books that do just that!
The first two are by Dandi Daley Mackall and illustrated by David Hohn. When Lydia saw these books, she was so excited. We immediately read the “toes book” and loved it! It’s a beautiful story about a little girl who wonders what God did when He created her. When God Created My Toes is a sweet story of God’s love and attention to even our teeny tiny parts! My favorite line?
“When God created my nose did He know I’d sneeze in a wintry breeze? Did we kiss like Eskimos when God created my nose?”
God Loves Me More Than That is about a little boy who wonders how much love God has for him. He basically goes through Romans 8:38-39 to see how big, soft, wide, loud and strong God’s love is.
The pictures are modern and captivating. The story is all in rhyme. And enough humor in it to make Lydia giggle. I love the lesson in God’s love–it’s something we all need to be reminded of!
The third book is God Gave Us Heaven by Lisa T. Bergen. I’ve read a few of her novels and liked her so was excited to read this. Plus, I’d seen the other books in this series (God Gave Us You, God Gave Us Two) and was hoping to find a new series to enjoy with Lydia.
This is basically the story of a little polar bear cub who asks questions about Heaven. Her papa bear answers each of her questions and explains beautifully how we get to Heaven. The illustrations are darling, the questions are ones I’m sure every kid (and some adults!) have asked.
But I just didn’t love it. It was too much. Like a textbook for a toddler. Maybe for an older child, you could use this as a springboard for a discussion about heaven. But for a 2 year old, the long paragraphs describing why we aren’t angels in heaven coming from a papa polar bear? Well, it was just ok for me. (Ha! I’m channeling Randy Jackson!)
However, it’s always great to see kids’ books with good theology and teaching. So, if you want to talk to your kid about Heaven and need a good vehicle, this could help you. I just suggest you know something about Heaven first, instead of using this as your Bible. Know what I mean?

Do these books sound like something you and your kids would like? Well, I’m going to give all three of them away to one happy winner! Just leave me a comment—about your favorite picture book, why you’re blogging instead of something else right now, or just “Me want books!” I’ll pick a winner this weekend!

I just started a new blog this week and though it’s not much so far, it’s been fun! (It’s my secret occupation for nap time.)
These books look fantastic! I’ve been looking for some good books for my nearly 2 year old and also for the little ones that I work with at church. I could make great use of these!

Mae had a book called Duck On A Bike. It was a cute story but what I remember and liked most was the illustrations. Unfortunately it was a laminated paperback book so it is no longer around anymore. *sigh* Toddlers are hard on books! 🙂
Oh, and…..me want books, too!

Oh we’ve had a ton of “heaven” questions around here lately! These would all be great! Thanks for the chance! : )

We don’t have many picture books that tell our kids about God. We need to get more. So pick me! 😉
Honestly, my favorite are the Jesus Storybook Bible that you recommended, and the Big Storybook Bible (I think that’s what it’s called. it is big…). Elias loves both of those.

My favorite book to share with my children is “The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes”. It’s an especially wonderful tale to share with little girls, because it’s all about a Mummy Bunny who doesn’t have to give up her dream, just because she’s had 21 baby bunnies. Instead, her being a Mummy Bunny has specially prepared her to be one of the Easter Bunnies.
It’s so beautiful, and very timeless (it was written in 1939). Kindness and cleverness are always important.
“God Gave Us Heaven” looks wonderful. I can’t wait to find it in the store (if I don’t win it here)! 🙂

These all three look like books my little girls (2 and 4) would adore. My oldest is especially addicted to books, just like her momma, and I know she’d go gaga over these.
Thanks for the entry.
