We do Easter baskets a little differently around here. It all starts with my kids gathering rocks. And then there’s a Snow White cape and a Jesus basket and…well, it’s kinda cool. You should really go read my really detailed-with-lots-of-pictures post from last year (or the year before last!)
The point is, I want to make even Easter baskets point to Jesus. As much as I love a good Reese’s egg (and I do!), I also want to be purposeful with this pretty-big-deal in my kids’ lives. I remember my Easter baskets as a kid. So, I hope the way we do Easter baskets just plants another little seed of God’s truth and love into their hearts.
I started calling our Easter baskets “unEaster baskets” a few years ago because…I dunno, it makes people click on links, I guess. *wink* I like the idea of the gifts inside being less about the eggs-bunnies-and-chocolate of American Easter and more about growing in the Lord. Each year, I try to find gifts that will help my kids know Jesus more.
This year, I’ve collected some of my favorites gift ideas to inspire you!
VeggieTales ::: The newest DVD, Veggies In Space! We just watched this today and my kids’ loved it. The best part to me was the Larry and Jamie Grace duet at the end.
Scripture Stickies ::: Exactly what it sounds like–stickable Scripture verses. Kinda like a fun and meaningful post-it note.
God Gave Us Easter by Lisa Tawn Bergren ::: a sweet picture book for kids by one of my heroes!
Yancy ::: Her newest pre-teen devotional, Jesus Music Box Devotional + a Yancy tshirt. You know how much I love Yancy and her heart for giving kids God’s Word in the coolest way possible.
Seeds Family Worship ::: Honestly, this needs to be on constant rotation in your house because every single song is Scripture put to music. Plus, each volume comes with two CDs so you can give one away to a friend.
You Can Draw Bible Stories by Sandy Silverthorne ::: A fun book for your little artists. My kids adore this book and use it a lot during school when they are waiting on me to work with the other one. I love how it puts the kids into the story. It’s like a meditation for their little hands.
Willow of Wonder ::: I have loved Willow of Wonder since I found her Armor of God print during our Armor of God series. Go look thru her shop and you will find tons of prints you’ll want to hang on your walls.
Fun, right? Check out our printable Scripture cards to add to your own Easter Baskets!
Well, hopefully I will win this and put all those items in my kids baskets! They usually get a little candy, story, Bible, or devotional book, card game, and some other small items- stuffed animal, bubbles, flashlights, hair bows, etc. Even if I don’t win I’ll have to try out some of the items in the giveaway. We love Seeds but only have one CD at the moment. I love making the holidays more Christ centered and actually about the holiday and what is really important.
these look amazing. I have three boys and would love to add these ideas and gifts to our easter
Usually its a few plastic eggs filled with candy or coins, a small toy and activity books like Bible word searches or puzzles.
My 4 year old daughter is in love with the Frozen movies so I thought about putting a few of those type things in her Easter basket. I usually put some sort of age appropriate devotional type book in her basket. I love all of these ideas so even if I don’t win the basket, I’m thinking about getting a couple of the items.
I am hoping to buy my almost 5 year old her first Big girl Bible this year:) Also, I was thinking about getting them a goldfish or a birdhouse! They will also get the traditional Chocolate Bunny but we usually buy the all natural kind at the local health food store.
Looking for some new easter basket ideas, and love all of these! We normally put some spring items in the baskets, flip-flops, bubbles, and of course treats, but really want to keep it more Christ focused this year.
We desperately need these! I love your ideas, thank you!!
Candy and target $1 spot treasures
We usually put a new Bible/bible storybook or movie. Last year we put “what’s in the Bible” dvd’s in their baskets 🙂 And of course, chocolate!
I loving the Seeds Family Worship!
Hopefully I’ll be filling my first Easter basket with your generous give-away. But if not, I definitely have some great ideas thanks so you! I have to say I love your creativity and passion for teaching your children about Jesus. Now I would just like an ebook with activities and fun stories to connect Christmas and Easter. Something about Jesus’ life. That would be cool!
what great ideas! I will def be buying and implementing some of these. thanks so much!
This is our first year having our kids home for Easter (we adopted all four last summer 🙂 So needless to say we’re still figuring that out! So far trying to avoid candy, and these are all amazing ideas!
Wow! Thank you for following God’s Heart and sharing truth! I had been trying to think of ways I could change up the traditional in our home~ this is perfect. Easter is always Christ centered in our home but this takes it to a even higher level. My kids will love it all~ and I’m sure God is smiling real big seeing all us mom’s planting so many powerful seeds in our children! Great Job Oh’ Amanda! Be blessed!
I am probably putting a book, Bible verse, small candy, and a craft- but these are some great new ideas for me to consider!
Can’t wait to fill my kids baskets with Easter goodies! I would love to put things in them that represent the true meaning of Easter.
Thank you for these ideas! I agree with you that I wish we put more emphasis on the meaning of Easter vs a candy holiday. I have tried doing this with my 3 & 6 yr old boys the past few years. We are starting your Sense of Ressurection book this week. I cant wait! Thank you again!
We like to include new bible stories and Christian music Ion Our kids Easter baskets. thanks for the chance to win!
What a great idea. Christmas is a month long celebration around here & I’ve been wanting some more ideas to make Easter just as important. Thanks!
we love Seeds CDs. This giveaway is great! Thanks for hosting!
My 2 boys will be getting a few small toys and candy but also Christ Centered items that you suggested 🙂 thanks!
I haven’t even thought about it yet! I love your ideas! They will help me plan! =)
honestly, we don’t do Easter baskets. But I love the UnEaster basket idea. We may have to incorporate it into our celebrations.
Good luck to all who entered! Too bad I don’t have twitter 🙁
Gardening supplies! =)
We have the same idea about Easter badkets. We but in things that teach them about the Resurrection. We usually buy them Jesus coloring books and dvds (sometimes they get Veggie Tales) from cbd and if they get chocolate, it’s achocolate crosss. I love that you’re doing this give away! These products are really cute and I was actually eyeing God gave us Easter. Mil. Thanks again 🙂
Last year for Easter we let our children choose a traditional Easter animal to give away through Compassion. Then I collected a few things to remind them of what we gave, chick stickers etc.
I’m not sure yet what we are going to put in the kids’ Easter baskets this year. We usually have some sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and other fun springtime fun. My oldest has requested the Names of Christ book from the Red-headed Hostess.
I don’t usually do Easter baskets, but these un-baskets seem really fun!
The Hubs usually takes care of the Easter baskets – he started that I think the first (or second) Easter we had with our oldest. Candy is pretty much what we do – we don’t spend/do a lot at all.
Last year we put board games, books and a little bit of candy in our son’s easter basket.
This year, I’m assuming it will have Legos in it. I love the idea of sidewalk chalk as well, and possibly a few simple reading books as he is learning to read. 🙂
I will put some candy, book, movie, slippers.
We usually do a chocolate bunny and a DVD for the whole family along with new toothbrushes and toothpaste :). Love the unEaster basket 🙂
I would love to put this in my kids Easter basket! 🙂
I usually put in a veggie tales movie, a book from the Christian book store, some kind of spring toy, something cuddly, and a few treats.
I love your ideas! We do our fun basket at the start of spring break. Easter day and the Passion week are reserved for reflection on Him! Thank you for the inspiration.
I normally just do candy and books but I love these ideas!! We may be changing!! Thank you for a chance to win!!
Thank you for some awesome new ideas! I love the God Gave Us Easter books! One of my favorite authors/series!!
We usually do a chocolate bunny, some fruits. (Kiwi are egg shaped) 🙂 Also they either get a new bible or a devotional book. Hope I win! Would love to add all these goodies to their baskets!
We don’t do Easter baskets, but we do egg hunts with the Resurrection-story eggs.
Great ideas! So far I have the Action Bible Devos for my son.
My mom and mother in law have both already stocked up for the basket, so I’m not certain what we’ll have. 🙂 I know there will be too much candy, a toy, generally a new bible story book, and a few other items like chap-stick or hand lotion. Excited to be doing Sense of the Resurrection this year.
We usually do a DVD candy and bubbles. Love the uneaster basket idea!!!!
We usually do candy, a video and outside play toys. These would be great additions! Love it!
I would love to win! We separate our celebration. On the first Sunday in spring, we do the traditional basket with chocolate, etc. We do an egg hunt and dye eggs that day too. But on Easter, we usually have a spiritual themed gift for the babies. This year I want to do a resurrection garden. We also purchased the Sense of the Resurrection book you created. I’m excited to use that.
2 handmade bunny dolls, books and crafts. I wanted it all to focus on Jesus so I love you ideas. Good work!!
I came here looking for basket ideas after getting some great ideas last year!!
I’m so ‘practical’ that it typically ends up being one toy (i.e., paint book), a few pieces of candy and a puzzle. The one tradition I have is using a plastic bucket for their Easter basket. I got these super cute ones from Walmart with Princesses, Avengers & Spiderman. Very NON EASTER, but they last all year for when we go on treasure hunts outside. Love them!
I will put a few hot wheel cars, train, and veggie tales dvd. My son is 2.
My daughter will receive a book about sketching for Resurrection Sunday. My son will receive a story book. Those are the gifts from me. My MIL will probably out-do herself with candy, as usual!
