So. A couple of things I need to tell you. I feel like I’ve been a little MIA lately and, well, here’s why…
I think I’ve mentioned it before on Facebook and if you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen my CrossFit updates. Yes, CrossFit, the newest, hardest exercise regiment to hit the US of A.
My husband started doing CrossFit a little over a year ago. Coupled with a complete restructuring of our diet, his whole life has changed. I’ve posted this before-and-after before but I think you should see it again…
Seriously. Can you believe that?!
Anyway, last week my husband opened a CrossFit gym (or box, as real CrossFitters call it). I, of course, had Performing Arts Camp so I could not do my first week of CrossFitting, too. (At least that’s what I told myself.) But on Monday, I had no excuses. I had to get in the gym.
Vanessa, Mandi and Staci joined me in the first workout and even after my fears of throwing up, fainting or otherwise dying, I actually semi-enjoyed it and I even felt good when I left! I went back on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. That is FOUR DAYS IN A ROW, folks! I haven’t worked out more than climbing the stairs with Asa since…well, the last time I can remember doing it with consistency is when I was preggo with Asa!
I am as sore as I have ever been in my life. But I’m also feeling pretty accomplished. What I’ve realized is this—I have no will-power to exercise. You tell me I should do 30 sit-ups a day to be healthy? Yeah. OK. I might try it for 2 days. Or I might try 15 sit-ups for 5 days. But it ain’t ever gonna happen consistently.
But being in a class that you pay for with a coach who sees you and knows you, well, you feel accountable. And empowered. Well, at least four days in, anyway.
So, along with actually working out and dragging my sore self around the house, I am also running the blog, Facebook and other social media-ness for the gym. Which isn’t huge work, but when you are a complete newbie, it takes a little more effort!
Along with all this, I am planning and getting ready for an RV trip. Yes. Like a roving vehicle? road trip van? What in the world does RV stand for?!! Oh, wait. I just remembered: recreational vehicle. Doh.
Anywhoo, my mom, dad, sister-in-law, niece along with my two kids and I are driving an RV to Minnesota. FROM ATLANTA. Holy smokies.
Along the way we’re going to visit some historical sites and most importantly, visit Laura Ingalls Wilder’s home in Walnut Grove, MN (you remember our Little House party, right?). It’s going to be quite the adventure. We leave next Tuesday, so be prepared for some updates from the road. I’m still taking applications for a hashtag for the trip. Here are a few suggestions: #ohRV #7peoplein1vehicle #RVtoMN and the front runner: #webetrippin 😉
So, a few questions for you:
Do you CrossFit? And have you ever traveled in an RV? All tips, encouragements and prayers for both endeavors are welcome in the comments!

I’m thinking about trying Crossfit soon, I’m trying to find a source of exercise that doesn’t totally melt me in the summer heat and I’m hoping that will do the trick! I’ve never traveled by RV but all growing up, that was my parents dream! I look forward to following your adventures! And my heart skipped a beat when you said you were going to see Laura Ingalls home!! I guess the 5-year old in me still loves those prairie girls! 🙂

Well, I don’t know about not melting as I was sweating buckets. But so far, I’m diggin’ the CrossFit philosophy. I suggest bringing a friend w/you the first time. 🙂
And yeah, I just hope I don’t cry when we get to Laura Ingalls’ house. Cuz I might.

I love cross fit. I was first introduced to it last spring and feel in love. But, when I started training for my marathon last fall, I backed off and didn’t start back till this spring. It’s pretty much the best and can totally make you feel like a wonder woman. And this week’s WOD with the 1/4 mile run and then squats/jerks? Yeah, I’m still sore from it three days later. Ha!

I went to a crossfit gym for about a year before I had my daughter. She’s two now. It was a phenomenal gym and if I have the chance to go back I think I will practice enjoying my personal bests and not competing with the other attendees.

I totally agree with Beth: For me I have found that I actually do better when I remember that the real competition is with myself, not others. So every new PR (Personal Record) is a victory! Good for your hubby and good for you! :0)

Hi Amanda!
Since you will be traveling near/through Wisconsin, you might want to check this out:

During the month of July, there is a “Little House” exhibition at Old World Wisconsin. Looks like fun! You can find more info on their site above!

No and not since I was young. My grandparents always had a motor home, up until about a year ago. I know when I was very young, like 4, we went to Disney World with them in it! (From Ohio!)

Congrats to you and your hubby on the gym. My dad is a trainer at a box in California. He is 60 and competing at the games in July. He qualified 7th in his age bracket this year and we are all so proud of him. Crossfit is doing great things and is awesome. I don’t get to do it regularly where I live but love working out with my dad when we are together. I teach LesMills classes at the local gym here and love group fitness.
#OhRV totally fits you I think!

Hi,
I just read your blog for the first time. You have a heart for the Lord and it’s refreshing to find someone who does. I am really interested and convicted about praying for my children, ages 11, 12, and 26; also a precious grandson and son-in-law. I feel overwhelmed by the state of our country for adults and our children. I will be encouraged by everything concerning prayer for kids. Also, our family is planning a trip to some of the western states next summer, in an RV of course. We are all really excited. It seems too far away. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement so far and I look forward to reading all you have to say. Leslie
